Amitabh Bachchan: I am not a singer, it's frightening for me to sing

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan , who has sung a song in his upcoming film 'Te3n', said he was "frightened" to croon as he does not consider him as a singer. In the song 'Kyun Re' from Bachchan's next, one gets to see his moments with the missing grand daughter, his equally suffering wife, his interactions with Vidya Balan who plays a cop and Nawazuddin Siddiqui , who plays a priest in the film. "It's always very frightening for me to sing a song because I am not a singer and especially when you have people like Clinton Cerejo (music director) sitting six inches away from you. Clinton did not want (the song) to be sung whole-heartedly," Bachchan said referring to the mood of the song.

Interacting with reporters at the promotional event of 'Te3n', the 73-year-old actor revealed that he was shy of singing in public. "I am very self conscious, so I go to a studio which I am familiar with. Like I go to the late Aadesh Srivastav's studio. I go there and quietly sit with the recordist who knows me," he said. For this song 'Kyun Re' the actor recorded his part which was initially rejected by Clinton. "With the help of some friendly musicians, I do an impromptu singing, so I asked them to send the pro-tunes and everything for the recording. Then I recorded and sent it back to them and it was destroyed. They said it's rubbish and you have to do it again," he said in a lighter vein.

"(Director) Ribhu (Dasgupta) said he will send Clinton while recording. I told them don't send I will not be able to do anything. Eventually, I succumbed to this pressure and then Clinton came to the studio," he added. Bachchan said he thought that the song was terrible. "But Clinton said don't worry...You think it's terrible but when I go and work on my machine, it's going to sound great. So what you heard is a machine version. It's his version not what I sang. I sang very 'besura'," Big B said.
He revealed that it was Dasgupta's idea to come up with the song. "I felt it would be inappropriate for somebody of this nature to sing a song in the film. But after listening to tunes and the words that Amitabh (Bhattacharya) narrated me, I felt to do it. We went ahead and did it," Bachchan added. Reminiscing about the song he had sung in 'Mr Natwarlal', Bachchan said a lot of things have changed today as far as recording a song is concerned. "The song (in Mr Natwarlal) was for kids. I had sang it at the Mehboob Studio. Now a lot of things have changed. Now those kinds of studios are not there where 200 musicians would sit and compose the song," Bachchan said.

"I have heard that many times singers come, sing the song and go away. They don't even know for which film they have sung the song, which director ... Nothing is known. So these small changes have taken place, rest everything is same," he added. 'Te3n' narrates the story of a cop (Vidya Balan), a priest (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and a vengeful man (Amitabh Bachchan) who investigate a kidnapping that is similar to an 8-year-old unsolved case. "It's been a delight to work in this film. My character in the film is of one Anglo Bengali whose name is John Biswas. He is old, weak, he is defeated and that's what Ribhu (wanted me to portray as a character," Bachchan said.

"So whether it was my clothing, the way I move, the way I walk and spoke they were all suppose to depict a very weak defeated person," he added. The upcoming thriller is set to be released on June 10.
