Last in news for demanding an unreasonable number of cuts in Anurag Kashyap’s Udta Punjab, the Censor Board had demanded all references of the state of Punjab to be deleted from the movie. Even after losing the case at Bombay High Court, the Censor Board hasn’t changed its ways.
As per a report by Decan Chronicle, the newest row is about Abhishek Jawkar’s Missing On A Weekend, which is a crime thriller set in Goa. The CBFC headed by Pahlaj Nihalani has suggesting 50 something odd cuts and also have expressed their discontent with references to Goa in the movie. The reason behind the CBFC’s problem with Goa is the same, the alleged claim that it portrays Goa in a bad light.
Akash Bathija, one of the actors in the film, said, “The Censor Board has been very harsh towards us. They want us to mute the word ‘Goa’ whenever and wherever it’s mentioned with reference to the drug mafia. The CBFC’s argument is that it shows Goa in bad light.”
Courtesy the CBFC demands, the film has already missed its scheduled release of July, 24.
As they say, history repeats itself, so how could the censor board refrain from echoing its unreasonable demands!
