More news →'Sultan' director out to 'set action' in LA
Director Ali Abbas Zafar has jetted off to Los Angeles for work on his upcoming film "Sultan", starring Salman Khan. "Heading to Los Angeles to set the action of#sultan with @larnellstovall. The countdown to the shoot begins," Zafar tweeted. Larnell Stovall is an internation fight choreographer, and given his involvement in "Sultan", fans of Salman can perhaps look forward to some awe-inspiring action sequences in the film. Produced by Aditya Chopra under his Yash Raj Films banner, the movie is reportedly based on the life of a wrestler and the "Dabangg" star will be seen in the lead role. His leading lady in the film is yet to be announced. While the shooting of the film is scheduled to commence in November, its release date has been fixed for the auspicious occasion of Eid in 2016. Meanwhile, Salman is busy promoting his forthcoming production "Hero", and he is also tied up with the shoot of "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo". He will also soon be seen on the small screen as the host of "Bigg Boss 9".
'Sultan' director 'rocked' by Delhi earthquake
"Sultan" director Ali Abbas Zafar was scouting locations for his forthcoming Salman Khan-starrer here when an earthquake rocked the city. The director took to Twitter to share his experience as he posted: “Location scouting Delhi for @SultanTheMovie and rocked by the #earthquake... Well action is about to begin.” He also shared an image of India Gate with people gathering around the landmark. Delhi and neighbouring areas were hit by a 7.5 Richter Scale quake, with its epicentre in Afghanistan, which jolted large parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan and northern India. The tremors led to panic among people. Produced by Aditya Chopra under his Yash Raj Films banner, "Sultan" is reportedly based on the life of a wrestler and the "Dabangg" star will be seen in the lead role. His leading lady in the film is yet to be announced. The film, which is scheduled to release on Eid in 2016, has already taken Zafar to Punjab and Los Angeles. Even Salman has gone the Aamir Khan way and is beefing up for the role as he had told earlier that his fans can expect to see him in "double size" in his "Sultan" big screen outing.
'SULTAN' TO RELEASE ON JULY 6, TO CASH IN ON FIVE-DAY WEEKEND
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's much anticipated sports-drama film "Sultan" will release on July 6 on the occasion of Eid. Yash Raj Films made the release date announcement on Monday. Produced by Aditya Chopra and written-directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, "Sultan" features Salman and Anushka Sharma as wrestlers. Interestingly, it will witness a five-day opening weekend at the box office as July 6 is a Wednesday. "'Sultan' advance booking for the 5-day festive weekend will start on Sunday, July 3, 2016 across India," tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. Industry experts believe "Sultan" will be a box office winner considering Salman's score at the ticket counters since the past few years.
'Sultan' to release on July 6
Superstar Salman Khan's much awaited film 'Sultan' will release on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. Director Ali Abbas Zafar took to Twitter to confirm the release date of the film which was scheduled to open on Eid. "Sultan will release on 6th July 2016," Zafar tweeted. Produced by Yash Raj Films, the movie revolves around Haryanvi wrestler Sultan Ali Khan, and his quest to prove himself after he hits the rock bottom in his career. "Sultan" also stars Anushka Sharma as Aarfa. The director shared the title track of the film as well, sung by Sukhwinder Singh. Salman's last outing was "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo," which released last year on Diwali.
'Sultan' leaked online: Cyber crime experts
Hours before its official release on Thursday, Salman Khan starrer 'Sultan' was leaked online, cyber crime experts said..One of year's most awaited films, 'Sultan' was apparently leaked online yesterday. However, so far no police complaint has been lodged in connection. "If one tries proxy server of other countries 'Sultan' is out online. But if you try it here (in India), it is blocked. If one goes to watch it online, a message flashes on websites that the content is removed as per Copyright Act," cyber crime expert Ritesh Bhatia, told PTI. "It is unfortunate that films are getting leaked online before its official release. Proper action and investigation needs to be done. It's the need of the hour," he added. Producers of "Sultan", Yash Raj Films, however, denied that the film has been leaked online. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Salman's annual Eid release saw a bumper opening today with trade analysts predicting a Rs 150 crore opening weekend business. Salman is playing the titular role of a wrestler from Haryana while Anushka Sharma is playing the female lead in the Ali Abbas Zafar-directed film.
'Sultan' gets huge opening, experts predict box office "hurricane"
Salman Khan's 'Sultan' has opened to a bumper response at the box office today and industry experts predict it will do a business of Rs 150 crore over the five-day weekend. The much awaited Eid release of the year features Salman as a Haryanvi wrestler. "The film is doing extra ordinary business across the country. The opening is like hurricane. Everyone is loving it, be it the story, the songs and Salman of course is a treat to watch in 'Sultan'," distributor Akshay Rathi told PTI. "The film is doing exceptionally well in North India like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab," he said. Rathi predicted that the sports drama film will do Rs 150crore business. "Today I think it will collect Rs 35 crore. Tomorrow is Eid and then there is extended weekend so it will be somewhere around Rs 130-150 crore," he added. Another film distributor, Rajesh Thadani said, "The film has opened really well as expected. It will make record breaking collection in its weekend which will be around Rs 150 crore." Both Rathi and Thadani feel even though 'Sultan' leaked online, it will not affect the business of the 'Dabangg' star's film. Manoj Desai, executive director, Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema, says the audience's reactions to the film have been electrifying, but noted that as Eid is tomorrow, the collections have been affected. "The word-of-mouth for the film is exceptional. Our1000-seater theatres are almost full, people are clapping and whistling. But since Eid is tomorrow, it has affected the business. Other than that, everything is going great for the film," Desai said. The Ali Abbas Zafar-directed film has opened well at single screens and multiplexes, with ticket pricing at Desai's theatre properties being at Rs 100-120, while that at the multiplexes it ranges anywhere from Rs 300 to above Rs 500.
