Chanda Review
by MyMazaa.comAmidst the cloud of controversy for the dubbing issue of actor Vijay, the film 'Chanda' is a terrific action masala. The dubbing artist work is superb for Vijay portion in the film. The roaring voice required for the role is very good. On the whole this mind blowing action cinema with small dosage of love and mother sentiment is good. Half an hour of the film could have been axed by the director. Had this happened the film would have been crispier, spick and span.
In the career of director S.Narayan this is a different kind of cinema. He has not included so much of action and violence in his earlier films right from the days of 'Chaitradha Premanjali' in early 90's. The director has not bothered to know what the 'A' center audience can appreciate from 'Chanda'. However with several responsibilities S.Narayan is a multifaceted director of the box office.
Kariya (Vijay) is black. His thoughts are raw. His approach is rocking with style. He eats well, drinks the local arrack and sleeps well. When his mother is insulted in public he becomes ferocious and attacks like a tiger. This becomes a very precarious issue because one of the persons hit by Kariya belongs to the family of don in the village. In the next round of bash Kariya damages two more persons of the same don house.
This earns him a place in the heart of Swapna (Shuba Punj) daughter of the don. Kariya is not aware what love all about. He is slowly made a civilized person by Swapna. When the proposal of marriage comes up Kariya receives a major shock. Swapna says Kariya she had loved him to ditch at the last minute because he has damaged her relatives very badly. Kariya although walks out in anger denouncing his love it haunts him very much as the days passes. The hard rock like Kariya becomes soft and silky dipping in love. Swapna also change her attitude on Kariya but it is too late. The height of love Kariya expresses to Swapna is the climax part of the film.
Vijay with physical strength is not the only plus point of this film. He is too good in emotional scenes. Dubbing done by Sudarshan has added to his role. Shuba Punj looks very sweet and capable of taking more challenging roles. Shoba Raghavendra, Komalkumar, Sunder Raj are apt for the roles. Action director deserves applaud.
Another discovery of talent from this film is the ability and music sense of reputed director S.Narayan. He has given four lovely songs handling the music in 'Chanda'. Savi Savi, Hogu Manase, another duet and the opening song in the film are well tuned and sung. Cinematography by Jagadish Wali is glorious.
The brilliant action on screen by Vijay is feast for action lovers!
