Kaddipudi Review

Suri's films always had the mature feel. In Kaddipudi, he comes closest to bring a commercial and art film together. The film is both entertaining and thought-provoking at the same time. Though the film seems a bit dragging, the interest is sustained throughout. In the end, the film does not present a regular end to a story. It leaves things unsaid, leaving it to the discretion of the intelligent audience.

The film is about Ananda aka Kaddipudi. He gets the nickname because his grandmother used to sell the tobacco product. He stops that trade but the name sticks to him. He works for a shady politician and is close to his son. The rivalry between this politician and his rival, played by Sharath Lohitashva, results in many deaths. Kaddipudi's life is unwittingly caught in this crossfire. He makes many attempts to lead a life away from rowdyism. Police officer Anant Nag helps him in this quest. But there are other forces that would not let him have a normal life.

How and if at all Kaddipudi manages to entangle himself from this web of fraud and deceit forms the story. Entwined in this is a beautiful love story between Kaddipudi and a struggling junior artiste, played by Radhika Pandit.

The performances of Shivanna, Radhika Pandit and Rangayana Raghu stand out. The songs have a tinge of classical note in them. They are part of the narrative and the story goes forward in them. This is one more reason that keeps you hooked to your seats. You cannot miss a single scene.

Like in all Suri's films, the shot taking and cinematography looks like art work. The canvas is full of colour and bright ones at that.
