Kandha Kotai Review
by MyMazaa.comLove is the sought-after theme in Tamil cinema. With good showing in his last two outings that dwelt on romantic subjects, Nakulan has tried to recreate the magic with 'Kandha Kottai', which too is about romance.
Debutant director S Sakthivel has rendered a commercial cocktail that has action, romance and comedy with Nakulan and Poorna at the scheme of things.
Seemingly aimed at targeting youngsters, Sakthivel has banked on racy musical score (courtesy Dheena) coupled with a brisk screenplay. Though the story is wafer-thin and old, what makes the movie interesting is the way Sakthivel unfolds the scenes.
Siva (Nakul) is a happy-go-lucky youngster who hates love. He is against romance and even goes to the extent of separating those stuck in love. In contrast, Pooja (Poorna), who lives in Nagercoil, is totally opposite to Siva. She supports those who fall in love and helps them get married.
Interestingly, Siva’s sister falls in love with Pooja’s cousin in Chennai. Steps in Pooja who promises to unite them. Enters Siva. He is dead against Pooja's attempts and tries to separate the love couple.
But after a few encounters with Pooja, his heart softens. He develops an affinity towards her, which turns into romance. The problem however begins here.
A youth who was desperate behind Pooja ends his life. His father Annachi (Sampath) vows to spoil the happiness in Pooja's family. He starts killing everyone around her.
As you would have guessed it right, Siva now gets ready to take him. He promises that he would end Annachi's menace and marry Pooja in just three days. Did he or not forms the climax.
Nakul has played his part well. But the 'Masilamani' hang over still seems to be there. Sakthivel seems to have played to Nakulan's strengths. Poorna is cute and resembles Asin and Genelia in many shots. She has a major role to play.
Sampath is as usual cool and menacing as baddie. Dheena's songs are racy and the lyrics are quite interesting in many songs. 'Eppadi Ennul Kadhal Vandhadhu...' is the only melody here.
Produced by T D Raja and released by Kalpathi S Agoram, ‘Kandha Kottai’ is a deja vu ride but with interesting twists.
