He delivered a few stunning performances as a child artiste and now with his debut film Kalyug doing well at the Box Office, twenty Two year old actor Kunal Khemu is hot property. He is currently shooting for Madhur Bhandrakar's Signal
'I don't have many options as most of the actresses are elder to me since I am twenty two. But personally I don't have any hassles working with anyone. Given a choice Madhuri and Tabu are my favorites,' says actor Kunal Khemu who stamped his presence in Mohit Suri's Kalyug.
After earning critical as well as audience approval, Khemu is currently held up at Madhur Bhandarkar's Signal. 'Madhur is a fabulous filmmaker. It's an honor to work with him,' the actor gushes. So, what's Signal all about? 'It deals with people who are involved in an industry of filling stomachs near the traffic signals. Actual beggars and eunuchs are part of the film. It's a mismatch cast. Something very interesting. Shooting for such a film is a totally different experience.' What are the other films you are working on? 'There's Awaarapan with Mohit Suri and a few others about which I would like to talk about once everything is finalized,' he says.
As a child artiste Khemu rubbed shoulders with Aamir Khan in Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke and Raja Hindustani. And for Mahesh Bhatt's Zakhm he went on to win the National Award for best child artiste. But good child actors seldom make successful stars. 'After Zakhm, I knew that if I wish to be a hero then I must take a break. I am in love with this whole deal of acting and I am having fun doing what I love to do. As a kid I had a relationship with the actor within and now since I have grown up, I continue to believe in the fact that I still have that relationship with the actor inside, only the age is different,' says the new-hero-on-the-block, philosophically.
Any actor who has worked with Aamir 'The Perfectionist' Khan has learned something or the other. Would you like to share your impressions? 'I am very fond of all the memories of Aamir. I was seven and a half when we worked together in Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke while he was a big star but still he made everyone feel at ease. He joined our pranks too. He is a very good human being.' Would you want to work with him again? 'I would really like to work with him. In fact we haven't met for quite some time now,' he says.
Having been accepted as a hero material, Kunal is a choice of many a director. He is open to serious, intense as well as fun films. During the recent Sabsey Favorite Kaun Award Show, he stepped into his dancing shoes and the world witnessed him do some neat grooving to the sound of music while his gym toned hands flashed in the air. 'I didn't dance in Kalyug but I got a very good reaction that day. I would like to showcase whatever I have. I wannabe a combination of a good actor and the conventional Hindi Film hero,' he says. And would we see him dancing in one of his next films? 'The audience would decide as to what they would like me to do. I am not looking at any particular genre. I am on for everything.'
