Anatharu Movie Reviews

Anatharu Review

Not all remakes are heart touching and penetrate deeply. 'Anatharu' is one such remake of 'Pitamagan' made spectacularly by director Kokila Sadhu. The top power houses of the box office €“ Upendra and Darshan have done roles poles apart to their image. Both have done their roles extremely well. For Upendra this role will be memorable and something beyond what he had done in his debut film 'A' and 'Raktha Kanneeru'.

Rudra (Upendra) abandoned in the graveyard after birth grows with no social contacts. He is dumb struck. He says only three lines when the body is lit in the graveyard. This is what he has learnt. Isolated and cut off from any knowledge. He comes to village one day and faces wrong music from the people. They say this is not his place of living. But he has the strength of a 'Rakshas' (Demon). No one can dare to touch him. He is so powerful. He can put down anyone. The drug peddler in the village Parvathi (played by Sanghavi) show soft corner to Rudra and bring him to the village chieftain (played by Ramaraju). The strength of Rudra and his innocence astonishes everyone. The drug lord in the village €“ chieftain misuse Rudra and in one of the smuggling cases the innocent Rudra is sentenced to prison. In the cell he puts down a dozen police and the third degree treatment for him severely injures him. At this stage Sathya (Darshan) the cheat in the same village meet him when he is framed on a charge from Putti (Radhika). Looking at the pathetic condition of Rudra in the prison Sathya console him and befriend him. Further he helps him to know a few things in life. At this time Sathya comes forward as witness to the crime committed by village chieftain that is shifted on the head of Rudra. This is where the things go wrong for him. He is brutally killed and life becomes miserable for Rudra, Parvathi and Putti.

Not able to react to this situation the demon in Rudra wakes up again and it is brutal revenge he takes on the village chieftain and gang. He walks back to his graveyard to his original job.

Every frame of Upendra is very tough to perform. But he has accepted this challenge. He has done well. Darshan as a cheat, friend and lover has got a free hand in this film. The role is very cool for him. He reminds his father in dialogue delivery. Sanghavi has been extremely good in the role. Radhika looking beautiful and going tragic after the death of her fiancée is convincing. The same role Ramaraju has done in Kannada version is different in his killing looks for Kannada audience. Rambha appearing for assorted songs from yesteryear Kannada films gives the required pep.

Cinematographer Krishnakumar work in this lengthy and challenging film will be a lesson for the budding cameramen. They can learn so many things from the camera work of this film.

This is a film to watch. The agony, pain, struggle, innocence, severe turbulence is all packed in this film.
