Kangana's 'Rani Laxmi Bai' not shelved

Kangana Ranaut was taken aback to hear the buzz about her Ketan Mehta-directed biopic “Rani Laxmi Bai” being shelved. Refuting the rumours, the actress says the film will go on the floors as scheduled, and pre-production work was already in full swing. Kangana, who is on her way to London to speak at the Women in the World summit after attending a few shows at the ongoing Paris Fashion Week, says even the filmmaker laughed off the rumours. “We are in Paris on our way to London when we got the news and we immediately called Ketan Sir as we got worried about the project. This is a magnum opus and it needs at least one year of pre-production which has started in full swing. “We all have invested way too much in the film. Naturally, we panicked but in the past, too, we have been a victim of such fabricated stories which were spread to harm our projects,” Kangana said in a statement. Ketan said: “I want to laugh about these rumours floating in the industry. The film is very much happening as per schedule.” The film will be based on the Rani of Jhansi, one of the leaders of the First Indian War of Independence in 1857. After “Katti Batti”, which turned out to be a damp squib at the box office, Kangana has projects like Hansal Mehta's "Simran" and Vishal Bhardwaj's “Rangoon” in her kitty.

Single, but not open to dating: Kangana Ranaut

Actress Kangana Ranaut, who is basking in the success of "Tanu Weds Manu Returns", says she is single but not open to dating as she is committed to her work. "I am single but not open to dating. I see my life in certain ways... right now, I am committed to my work," Kangana said at a media interaction here. The actress also believes that one needs to work a lot on relationships. "I don't want to be unfair with someone, so that relationship dies because of mishandling. Any relation is like a baby. "I don't want to get my relationship in bitter space because of lack of time or ignorance. First I need to secure my position in my career, then I can think about settling down in life," she added. Kangana will prove her mettle once again in one of her new roles in "Rani Lakshmibai", which will be based on the Rani of Jhansi, one of the leaders of the First Indian War of Independence in 1857. Bollywood's 'Queen' tag is quite funny: Kangana Ranaut

Her stupendous portrayal of an under-confident Rani in “Queen” won her not just a Best Actress National Film Award, but also earned her the epithet of Bollywood’s ‘Queen’. But Kangana Ranaut finds it “funny”. "This 'Queen' of Bollywood tag is quite funny! Now I'm playing Rani Lakshmibai. So after that film, people will write on my grave 'Rani Lakshmibai died here'," Kangana quipped during a chat. The acclaimed actress, who has carved her niche in the Hindi film industry with power-packed women-centric roles in movies like “Gangster - A Love Story”, “Fashion” and “Tanu Weds Manu”, says her life can be clearly divided into a “pre-‘Queen’ and post-‘Queen’” eras. “If there’s a biopic on me, it will be pre-‘Queen’ and post-‘Queen’... pre-‘Queen’ was a different world -- black and white -- and after ‘Queen’, my world has become colourful, because I’m getting a lot of offers that I think I deserve and I always thought I deserve, but would have never got,” said the actress, who’s known for being outspoken. Now, she says “I’m as good as it can get”. She will prove her mettle once again in one of her new roles in "Rani Lakshmibai", which will be based on the Rani of Jhansi, one of the leaders of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The film will be directed by Ketan Mehta. Besides "Rani Lakshmibai", Kangana, who will next be seen in “Katti Batti”, also has films like Hansal Mehta's "Simran" and Vishal Bhardwaj's “Rangoon” in her kitty. In “Rangoon”, which is set in the 1940s, the 28-year-old will sport a vintage look. “We have done a few look tests, but we haven’t decided yet about my hairstyle. It will be more of a vintage hairstyle as the film is set in the 1940s. I love vintage stuff. We’re still zeroing down one look,” she said. Apart from that, Kangana is also in talks for another film, which she says has a “musical” story. “I have just signed these three films - 'Rani Lakshmibai', 'Rangoon' and 'Simran'. But now there is one another musical, which I might start. It’s a musical film about circus and the script sounds very exciting, but I’ll announce it once it's finalised,” Kangana said. Meanwhile, the “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” actress will next be seen on the silver screen in Nikhil Advani's "Katti Batti", which also stars Imran Khan. The romantic-thriller will release on September 18.

Imran Abbas a 'reincarnation' of Farooque Sheikh: Muzaffar Ali

Muzaffar Ali, whose upcoming film "Jaanisar" features newcomers Imran Abbas and Pernia Qureshi, says one of the reasons for choosing Imran as the protagonist was because he seemed a reincarnation of actor Farooque Sheikh. "The story is about a king and a courtesan. I found the required aspects on her (Pernia) face as well on his (Imran) face. The kind of sensitivity that should be there on such a person, Imran has that. A nice vulnerable face. For me, he is Farooque Sheikh's reincarnation. And I couldn't think of any other actor for this character," said Ali at the the music launch of the film. Farooque Sheikh was always known for his simple and understated performances in relationship-based films which connected with the audiences. In a previous interview, Ali had said about Imran that "there's no boy as good-looking as him in India or Pakistan". Imran made his way into the hearts of viewers with numerous serials in Pakistan. When those serials started being telecast on Indian channels, Indians too got acquainted with his simple portrayal in the relationship-based serials. Thus, he got noticed by filmmakers and eventually made his debut in Vikram Bhatt's "Creature" opposite Bipasha Basu. The film, set two decades after the 1857 revolt, also marks the debut of fashion designer Pernia.
