More news →5 debutant directors arriving on July 21st
Last year when 'Yahaan', '7 1/2 Phere' and 'Sehar' released, there was a record of sorts with three directors [Shoojit Sircar, Ishaan Trivedi and Kabeer Kaushik] making their debut. Well, the record seems destined to be broken on July 21st with as many as 5 directors waiting for their debut flicks to hit the marquee. The movies slated for release on this day are 'Ahista Ahista', 'Aryan - Unbreakable', 'The Killer' and 'Yun Hota Toh Kya Hota' and the directors of these films are Shivam Nair, Abhishek Kapoor, Raksha Mistry & Hasnain S Hyderabadwala [co-directors] and Naseeruddin Shah respectively. A crowded Friday ahead, one just hopes that all of them find a space in the audience's heart, especially since each carries a good report and looks like a fine product!

Kamaal apologises to Vikram Bhatt: Khan, who has been in the news recently after filmmaker Vikram Bhatt slapped a defamation case against him for his derogatory remarks towards women in showbiz, has apologised for his doing. In reaction to Bhatt's statements on the controversy, Khan tweeted on Saturday night: "Today I watched Vikram Bhatt and he said -- 'KRK has got big social media power so he should decide whether he wants to be... Recognised as a troll only or respected critic', and 100 per cent agree with his statement. So thanks to Vikram Bhatt for showing me right way." Day 5 Repeat films have huge audience
Given the immense popularity of the Festival, today saw films like the Chinese film Honeymoon, The Genie in a Tin of Raviolis, Little Heroes, Bonifac, The Tallest Story Competition among others. There was Amulyam, Foto and Chittigadi Mahabharatam from the local filmmakers. Honeymoon and Invisible Wings, both from China were hot with viewers. Honeymoon is about the relationship between a stepmother and how she wins over her stepson. It is both touching and hilarious at the same time and that's where the strength of the film lies. We caught up with B A Nag, son of B Narsing Rao. A corporate guy, he made Journey, which was appreciated, though many thought some of the scenes did not fit into a Children's film. We also chatted with Ramesh Prasad, the owner of Prasad's, who spoke about his experience at the 15th International Film Festival and how Prasad's would host many more in days to come. Then there was Foto, which was all about the celluloid history and the technicalities of filmmaking. It has Naseeruddin Shah in the cast and that provided the star value to the film. From Griffith's Birth of Nation to Battleship Potemkin to Alam Ara to the first film by Lumiere Brothers, the film has footage from the original films and that makes it a must watch for all film buffs. A little boy, Foto's journey from being an aimless kid to a filmmaker is inspiring too. All in all, it was another day of crowded theatres and children enjoying international and national films.
Salman gets 5 year RI in poaching case
Bollywood actor Salman Khan was today sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and sent to Central Jail Jodhpur by a local court in connection with the Chinkara poaching case. Chief Judicial Magistrate Brijendra Kumar Jain also imposed Rs 25,000 fine on Salman, who was taken into custody and sent to the jail. The court ordered one year rigorous imprisonment for co-accused Govardhan Singh and imposed Rs 5000 fine. Four other persons were acquitted in the 1998 case when a chinkara was killed by Salman at Ghora farmhouse. Last week on April 7, the CJM rejected Salman's application for summoning a witness Harish Dulani who was missing from court appearances for many years. Dulani was said to be the main witness in the poaching case, and reportedly retracted his earlier statement that he had seen Salman killing the animal. Salman faces four poaching cases and the same court had awarded one-year jail term and Rs 5000 as fine to the actor on February 17 for hunting two black bucks on September 26-27, 1998 in Bhavad village of Mathania region.
5 crores worth jewellery for Anushka
It is known that Anushka is playing the title role in the film Rudramadevi, which is the first historical Indian movie in 3D format. The latest news is director Gunasekhar has spent whopping 5 Crores on Anushka’s Jewellery in the film and unit opines that the designs worn by Anushka made of real gold and diamonds will become quite popular like that of Aishwarya Rai’s Jodha Akbar. Costume designer Neeta Lulla has designed Anushka’s look in Rudramadevi. Gunasekhar is leaving no stone unturned in making Rudramadevi grandeur. The film has completed few portions already and next schedule will commence in Annapurna Seven Acres studio from 3rd July. Rana, Krishnam Raju, Prakash Raj, Zara Shah, Nathalia Kaur will be seen in prominent roles in this Gunasekhar production film which has musical scores by Ilayaraja.
5 sundarikal shifted from June 14
Anchu Sundarikal features five romantic short stories by 5 directors. While Amal's movie is titled Kullante Bharya, Aashiq Abu (Gowri), Anwar Rasheed (Aami), Sameer Thahir (Esha) and debutant Shyju Khalid (Sethulakshmi) are also helming the hostess. Interestingly June 14, seems to be busiest weekend ever for Malayalam film release. As of now 8 films are trying to get into theaters the same weekend. The names include Thankyou, Thomson Villa, Paisa Paisa, Mr Bean, Raktha Rakshassu, Samrajyam 2, ABCD and 8.20.But with so many films ready for an outing ,it needs to be seen how many of them will manage to get needed theaters in the state for a proper release.
