Rang De Basanti fails Golden Globe Test

'Rang De Basanti' is India's official entry to the Oscars this year. But there's a setback for the film as it failed to make it to the nominations list of the 64th Golden Globe. The five best foreign language films include 'Apocalypso' (US), 'Letters from Iwo Jima' (US/ Japan), 'The Lives of Others' (Germany), 'Pan's Labyrinth' (Mexico) and Volver (Spain). Rakeysh Mehra who received the best director's trophy at the recently held GIFA Awards ('RDB' took home several more trophies) tried his best at the Golden Globe. But it seems his best was not good enough. The Oscar nominations will be announced in January 2007. So, who should be roped in to make that final bid'Aamir Khan, of course. Let's see if the temperamental superstar agrees to push a film that was made because of his approval to be a part of it.

Mohit to Nisha - 'Tumhaara Naam Kya Hai Basanti'

While it's a common news by now that Nisha Kothari is Ram Gopal Verma's Basanti a.k.a. Ghunghroo in his version of 'Sholay', what is interesting to note is that Nisha would be sharing screen time with Mohit Ahlawat again for the 4th time in her short career so far. Though she is paired opposite Ajay Devgan [who plays Veeru] in the film, she does have a few scenes with Mohit Ahlawat [who plays Jai] too! The two share a love-hate relationship in the film, as per the original 'Sholay', and the attitude which the two throw at each other is said to be one of the highlights of the film. After working with Nisha in 'James', 'Darna Zaroori Hai' and 'Shiva', it would be a great sight to see Mohit posing a question - 'Tumhara Naam Kya Hai Basanti....oops, Ghunghroo'!

HEROES being compared to RANG DE BASANTI?

With excellent pre-release reports and positive word-of-mouth, Eros International's Heroes, the multi starrer with industry stalwarts like Salman Khan, Preity Zinta, Sunny Deol and Mithun Chakravorthy has taken a good opening across India, especially Punjab and other parts of north India. The film has enjoyed the biggest pre-Diwali opening, releasing to packed cinemas in northern India. With fantastic collections pouring in across regions - 80-85% collections in multiplexes and 65% in single screens in UP, Punjab and Delhi, 80-85% single screens in Maharashtra and 80% in Gujarat and similar figures coming in from other regions, audience reactions have been very promising. Reports are already doing the rounds of the film being comparable to a cult film on the lines of Rang De Basanti and Baghban. A fun road trip of two boys (protagonists Sohail Khan and Vatsal Seth) clubbed with a series of experiences that ignite emotions that have never been experienced before, Heroes has been described as a powerful and moving experience. Another eminent trade analyst and critic has described the film as a unique story and Indians should be proud of Heroes. Another eminent journalist goes on to say, 'Here's a piece of cinema that we need to stand and applaud for its idealism, its absolute absence of cynicism in telling a story that invites the conscience to cry for a country and global society that can't think beyond its own nose'. Produced by Bharat Shah, Vikas Kapoor and Samir Karnik, Heroes directed by Samir Karnik, has an eclectic star cast including Salman Khan, Priety Zinta, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Mithun Chakraborty, Dino Morea, Sohail Khan, Vatsal Seth, Amrita Arora and Ria Sen.
