'Chauranga' has no competition with 'Wazir': Sanjay Suri

Sanjay Suri's “Chauranga” is releasing on Friday alongside “Wazir”, which features biggies like Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar. But the actor-producer feels they have no competition, and says that both the films can co-exist at the box office. Asked if there's any reason to worry with "Wazir" releasing on the same day, Sanjay told : “It is great because it is a bigger film. We are not worried as every Friday there will be one film or the other. "We have no competition with 'Wazir' as it is a much bigger film, with bigger names. We wish them all the luck and we feel that they also do the same. If 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Dilwale' can adjust, then 'Wazir' and 'Chauranga' can also exist.” The team of "Chauranga" -- director Bikas Ranjan Mishra, actors Anshuman Jha and Tannishtha Chatterjee as well as co-producers Onir and Sanjay. The film sheds light on the violence of class oppression that continues to exist in rural India, while “Wazir” seems to be a revenge saga and also talks about an unusual bond shared by a paralysed chess grandmaster and an ATS officer. Sanjay rued high ticket prices, while Mishra pointed out that spiraling ticket prices come as a blessing in disguise for independent filmmakers. “High ticket prices sometimes help independent films as people go to watch bigger films and then they don’t get it and then they watch other films being screened,” quipped Mishra. Adding to this, Sanjay said: “We hope that 'Wazir' is houseful... in fact, gets overflowing”. Anshuman also shared that there is no need to fret over the box office clash as “at the end of the day we have got enough screens to be distributed”.

Content is the hero of 'Chauranga': Sanjay Suri

Actor-producer Sanjay Suri says content is the star of his forthcoming production "Chauranga". "When you become a producer, pressure is always there. Every producer wants a huge release. I am pitching the film in the areas where such film are watched. We don't have funds for a wider release. "We hope wherever we go, people like it and the word-of-mouth is strong. It will purely work on merit and content is the hero of this film," Sanjay told. Sanjay had earlier co-produced "I Am", and he has co-produced "Chauranga" along with Onir and Mohan Mulani. Asked what prompted him to back the film, Sanjay said: "I read the script and I loved it. When I read the script, I could visualise the film and there was clarity in it. So, I decided to produce it. It took time to make, but we made it. The journey has been long but, we had fun making this film." Directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra, "Chauranga" features Tannishtha Chatterjee apart from Sanjay and others. The film is a fictional account of six days in a dark corner of India, telling a story of violence of class oppression that still exists in rural India. The film centres around the story of a 14-year-old boy falling in love with a 16-year-old from an upper caste.

Item numbers weren't a planned move for Chitrangada Singh

After featuring in films like "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi" and "Yeh Saali Zindagi", actress Chitrangada Singh was seen grooving to "Kundi mat khadkao raja", a raunchy song in "Gabbar Is Back". She says there was no strategy behind choosing an item number. Before "Kundi mat khadkao raja", Chitrangada had done another song for Shirish Kunder's "Joker". "I didn't make any strategy that I would do item numbers. It just came my way. Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali (producer) called me for the song in 'Gabbar is Back' and Akshay Kumar was also a part of it. We came together, I heard the song and I took it as a part of job. So I did it," said Chitrangada, who will perform in Dubai as part of 'Asia's biggest New Year bash'. Chitrangada wants to perform on veteran actress Helen's songs at the event. "It's very difficult to choose one song to perform from so many of her songs. I like to groove on any song of hers. But I would especially like to perform on 'Piya tu ab toh aaja'," she said here. The actress has been seen in films like "Desi Boyz", "Inkaar", "I, Me Aur Main".
