More news →Cuckoo won't make viewers sympathize with blind couple: Director
Director Raja Murugan describes his forthcoming Tamil directorial debut "Cuckoo" as an honest and cute love story of two blind people. He is confident that the audience won't sympathize with the lead characters. "All love stories, real or reel, are associated with colour, beauty, money and what not. But love is beyond all this and I've captured that in my film," Murugan said. "When two blind people fall in love, there's no room for all these factors. There's only honesty in their love and that's what 'Cuckoo' is all about. "We love using all our five senses, but what happens when you have to love using only four senses? The love that you see then is not the same as you and I imagine. I have tried to portray exactly that in my film," he added. Jointly produced by Fox Star Studios and The Next Big Film Productions, "Cuckoo" will come out in March. "There's a lot of humour in the film. It's not a film that will make you cry or sympathise for the blind characters. It's a cute love story that will entertain. I made the film with the tagline that 'life is beautiful', therefore there's no room for sympathy and sadness," said Murugan. "Cuckoo", a romantic-drama, features Dinesh and Malavika Nair and the two lead actors joined a workshop to prepare for their roles. He is in awe of his lead actors. "I think Dinesh and Malavika have done a great job. I enrolled them in a workshop where blind students are taught life skills. They worked with those kids for two months and in the process convinced me that they could play blind characters effortlessly," he said.
Cuckoo makers gift SUV to film's director
Buoyed by the overwhelming response to the recently released Tamil romantic drama "Cuckoo", its makers Fox Star Studios and The Next Big Film presented the film's director Raju Murugan with a Renault Duster SUV as a token of appreciation. "A gesture of appreciation from Fox Star Studios and The Next Big Film to Director Raju Murugan, who gave us the commercially successful film 'Cuckoo' and who also made us proud," read a statement from production house The Next Big Film. "Cuckoo", which released March 21, is the love story of a visually impaired couple. The film has been adjudged a hit at the box office. The unanimous verdict about the film has been that it never forced the audience to sympathize with the lead characters and helped them create an emotional bond. Dinesh and Malavika Nair played the lead visually challenged couple in the film, which has music by Santosh Narayanan.
