Aamir Khan is called the Mr. Perfectionist and if one has any doubt, all such doubts will be cleared after watching the trailer of his upcoming wrestling drama 'Dangal', which was released just a while ago. This time Aamir transformed himself into a wrestler from Haryana. Based on the life story of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, Dangal is an inspirational story of how a Haryana wrestler trained his daughters in a men dominated sport, wrestling, in the quest to win a Gold medal for his country. To play the role of Mahavir Phogat, Aamir had to gain weight and look believable as father of two grownups, and he has predictably gone into the skin of the character with unbelievable transformation. He plays a man who prays for a son so that he can fulfill his dream of winning a Gold medal for India. As wrestling is a man's sport, he doesn't think of fielding his daughters in the wrestling arena until the two young girls, Geeta and Babita, makes him realize the girl power by beating their neighbors, two boys. While 'Sultan' belonged completely to Salman Khan, 'Dangal' belongs to the actors who play Aamir's daughters. One can see their commitment and the intensity in their eyes when they get inside the arena. The dream of their father is clearly visible in their domineering eyes. This is the real film talking about girl empowerment. The last shot of the trailer certainly gives goosebumps when a beefed up young Aamir Khan looks flexing his muscles before entering the wrestling arena to land a powerful blow on his opponent. The trailer has hinted that Aamir is once again back to rewrite the box office records. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal will release in theaters on 23rd December, 2016.
Dangal Enters 100 crores Club in Three days
Withstanding the demonetisation effect and also making waves with its highly emotional content, Aamir Khan's latest film "Dangal" unleashed it's power at box office. After three days of run at box office, Dangal directed by Nitish Tiwari, has collected 105+ crores 'nett' from box office. Probably it's another film for Aamir in his career to enter 100 crore club, but for Bollywood it's very happy thing. Recently films like Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil took weeks to touch 100 crore club. On the flip side, Dangal Telugu version isn't received well by telugu audiences. The film registered mediocre openings.
Trade: Dangal Top the Charts
Not bogged down by the demonetisation, as many as four regional films (including a Telugu dubbed) and a Bollywood star hero's film have tested their luck at the BO this week. Moviegoers and critics had field days on Friday, Saturday. Extremely rave reviews all over making the film among the top in Telugu states. But certainly it's going to have its affect.VangaveetiAfter a longtime, Ram Gopal Varma's film Vangaveeti has got good pre-release buzz, thanks to his Shiva to Vangaveeti event. The film has got some decent openings in few areas, Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari districts, but failed to attract audience in Telangana.Opening in US was good on Day 1, given that the film managed to gain a curiosity. But this may not continue further at the Overseas.Saptagiri ExpressSaptagiri's debut as hero might have had got good craze after audio launch. But it didn't last long. Due to postponement, the film lost its buzz. People weren't convinced to see him as the protagonist. Newcomer director couldn't meet the expectations on the film. OkkadochaduVishal's Okkadochadu will go down the drain as one of the bad release in the actor's career. Lack of publicity, poor talk have a telling effect on the collections too. Usually, Vishal has got certain fan base in masses. Even Pooja saw good numbers in Telugu states.PittagodaThe film opened to lukewarm response. New cast, poor promotions said to have affected the film's collections. With critics too not so impressed with the film, this may not have a bright run at the ticket windows.Suresh Babu, who was planning to repeat the magic of Pelli Choopulu with 'Uyyala Jampala' producer Ram Mohan, fails to yield the result.Bottom-line: On the whole, it's just a day. One has to wait and see what's in store for these releases.
Aamir Khan resumes 'Dangal' shooting in young avatar
Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan on Thursday resumed the shooting of 'Dangal' at the Akhada Leel near Toosa village in a new muscular look for the younger avatar of his character, and confirmed that the movie will release on December 23 as scheduled. "We are coming on Christmas weekend. We are not releasing our film on December 16. It will release on December 23, which is a Friday just two days before Christmas," he clarified. The 51-year-old actor will essay the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat in the forthcoming biographical sports drama film. Aamir, who bulked up to 95 kg earlier to play the ageing wrestler in the Nitesh Tiwari-directed film, has followed a rigorous diet schedule to shed weight to show the younger version of the wrestler. For his new younger look, which he shared with his fans on various social media platforms earlier this week, the "PK" star took four to five months break. "When I came to Ludhiana, I was very fat. At that time we shot for the scenes where Mahavir has become old. 85 per cent of the film is about his that look only. Now we are shooting for the portion when Mahavir was young," Aamir said. The set, which was set up at the famous “Akhada” (wrestling pit) gave a genuine feel to the shoot and was full of langot-clad wrestlers, who were seen flexing their muscles. Some of the key elements including a photograph of lord Hanuman, body-building equipment and cow dung cakes on the walls added to the urban feel of the sequence. Despite shooting in the hot and humid weather, the cast and crew perfectly managed to start the shoot for a part wherein Aamir, donning blue striped shirt, trouser and a “gamchha” to keep the heat at bay, can be seen cheering up for two wrestlers. Sakshi Tanwar, who will be seen as Mahavir's wife and Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, who play Mahavir's daughters -- Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari -- in the film, were nowhere to be seen on the set. Talking about his preparation for the role of Mahavir, Aamir shared that he was taught wrestling by Kripa Shankar Patel. "He is one of India's national coaches. He works with the Indian Railways. We took special permission for him as our film would promote wrestling in the country. He gave his one year to the film and taught me and my on screen daughters everything about wrestling," said Aamir. Asked why he shot for older version of Mahavir before his younger age, Aamir said: “Every man is asking me how I lost weight. The reason is when I started shooting for the film at that time I had finished ‘PK' in which I had good body. I had 90 per cent body fat and I was very fit. "So when I heard the story of 'Dangal', the director said that you are ready for this (younger version of Mahavir) and should later gain weight for the older version. But I said when your film will finish then I'll be left with 95 kg... I decided that we will shoot Mahavir's older look first and then I take four-five months in which I'll be having a set goal of losing weight." The shooting of "Dangal" is expected to wrap up in next 10 days.
