'Dil Dhadakne Do' a world-class film: Anil Kapoor

Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, who will be seen in the role of a patriarch of a dysfunctional Punjabi family in the forthcoming film "Dil Dhadakne Do", said the movie is a world-class project. Also starring Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra, Shefali Shah, Farhan Akhtar and Anushka Sharma, "Dil Dhadakne Do" (DDD) is a family film, said the 58-year-old veteran. "It is a family film. It is a Zoya Akhtar film so it has a distinct style. It is a film which you can easily say is world-standard," Anil said here on Sunday while promoting the film. Set for a June 5 release, DDD also has another character - a dog named Pluto - which, according to Anil, is the real hero of the flick. "Pluto is the real hero of the film. We all make up the ensemble around him. He is the real rockstar," said Anil, the father of actress Sonam. Talking about his role, the "Slumdog Millionaire" actor said people will notice a difference in his look. "I am tired of people asking me about there being no difference over the ages. In this film you will notice the difference and this is why I did the film. You will see the difference (faraq in Urdu) and you will be proud of it (faraq)," said Anil who sports a salt and pepper hairstyle.

Ranveer missed Bhansali on 'Dil Dhadakne Do' sets

Every day was like a party on the sets of Zoya Akhtar's "Dil Dhadakne Do", but by the end of it, actor Ranveer Singh craved for some "Bhansali action". "Dil Dhadakne Do" is about a dysfunctional family's cruise trip, and the entire film shoot was a sort of a picnic for the star cast. Ranveer is happy to have worked in Zoya's style of cinema, which more of "slice of life" and entertaining, but it didn't give him the opportunity "to scream, to sweat, to lose out voice and all" -- making him miss his "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela" and "Bajirao Mastani" director. "By the end of Zoya's film, I was like 'I need to go to Bhansali' because acting in her (Zoya Akhtar) film is so casual and candid. You are sitting on the sofa and talking... sitting in the bar and talking... if we are walking, then also we are having conversation," Ranveer said here in an interview. "So it is a very candid and casual. During the shoot, I had jokingly said to PC (Priyanka Chopra) that 'I can't resist myself. I have to go to Bhansali. I want to shout out, do action stuff, do aggressive scenes and cry"... and this is not in Zoya's films," Ranveer, who did intense scenes in Bhansali's "Goliyon Ki Raasleela - Ram Leela", said. While in Zoya's film Ranveer plays a rich and classy urban guy, in Bhansali's "Bajirao Mastani", he will be seen as Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao and will also pull off some intense scenes and action. However, Ranveer is happy to work with the two directors "who are poles apart with different styles of acting and filmmaking". "Dil Dhadakne Do" is slated to release on June 5.

'Dhanam' director receives telephonic threats

G. Siva, the director of the recently released 'Dhanam' has voiced concern as he is receiving phone calls threatening dire consequences. 'Dhanam' features actress Sangeetha as a Devadasi who indulges in sex-work. Societal repercussions follow and the film has sequences that narrate a move to poison her to death due to her 'wrong doings'. The director has made it very clear that the lead character of the film is merely a victim of circumstances and the film is an expression of societal degeneration harping on human emotions and the thirst to be accepted. Says G. Siva, 'If anyone has any qualms with regard to the film, I am ready to explain to them as to what the intent of the film is. It definitely is not aimed to disrespect anybody. I don't want to make this a big issue and so am not filing a complaint with the police'. He also added by saying that, 'I believe in art and so I ventured to do a film like this which is an expression of human emotions. If I work just for money, I could have made yet another masala film'.
