The glam-doll of Kollywood Namitha is all thrilled. For she has been assigned to play the lead role in an English movie. The movie has been titled Maya and would be produced by Global One Studios and would be directed by Eric with Ashok Kumar cranking the camera. Says Namitha, 'It is a great joy to act in an English movie at such a early stage of my career. It is an heroine centric movie and I would certainly leave an impression in the film'. Going further, she says, 'Thogh I have acted in several films in my career, I relish acting in Tamil movies. A sense of comfort prevails when I do Tamil movies. My forthcoming movies too would take me to greater heights in Kollywood'.
Asin steps on to English
One of M T Vasudevan Nair's stories is going to be adapted into an English film. The film likely to be titled The Night 3 Step is to be directed by Bharat Bali. The director who finds it a matter of big luck to get a script by M T Vasudevan Nair is keen on bringing either Mohanlal or Kamal Haasan in to play the male lead role. He is planning to make it a big budget extravaganza with some Hollywood actors too in important roles. But even before he finalized the hero, the director has signed up Asin for the female lead role. The actress is now working in Mumbai for her latest Hindi film, the remake of 'Ghajini'. The actress who is also a Malayalee very well know the importance of M T Vasudevan Nair's stories and very easily agreed to do the big role. Other than her 'Dasavatharam' , 'Ghajini' remake and another film in Hindi, she has not yet accepted any other offer and is planning to concentrate on Bollywood and in bigger cinemas.
Vasantha Balan to direct an English film
Real talent never goes unnoticed. No words can describe Vasantha Balan better. The director of the National Award winning film 'Veyyil' seems to be getting hotter as every day passes. He is currently making the film 'Angadi Theru' with a newcomer by name Magesh and Anjali of 'Katrathu Tamizh' fame. The movie is produced by Ayngaran Internationals and also features political critic Paza Karupayya and writer Vikramadithya in important roles. The movie is expected to have a wonderful narration that is based on reality. As victory begets victory for most talented people, Vasantha Balan has been approached by a Mumbai based production house that made the film 'Bandit Queen'. The new film that he has been chosen to direct is named 'Rough India' and would be released worldwide. So, it is 'Rough India' after 'Angadi Theru' for Vasantha Balan. The man sure showed his talent with a beautifully narrated story in 'Veyyil' and is all set to travel to great heights now that his ability will be showcased worldwide.
Nasser to don khaki in English film 'Solar Eclipse'
Veteran Tamil actor Nasser will be essaying the role of a Superintendent of Police in upcoming Hollywood production “Solar Eclipse”, which also features Indian actors Om Puri, Rajit Kapoor and Ananth Mahadevan in key roles. “This will be his fourth English film and second Hollywood production. He will join the sets in Sri Lanka on February 17,” Nasser’s wife Kameela told. The film’s story, a conspiracy theory, blended with fiction where facts are not available, but based on a solid fact that police were well aware of the plot to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi in 1948. Currently busy shooting for superstar Rajinikanth’s Tamil outing “Kabali” in Malaysia, Nasser will directly join the team of “Solar Eclipse” later this month. “The principal shooting of the project starts on February 16. A day later, Nasser will join the team and shoot for one day, before returning back to the sets of ‘Kabali’. He will shoot major portion of his role in March,” she said. In the film, Nasser will play a character called Ashok, entrusted with the responsibility of protecting Mahatma Gandhi from any attack by assassins. The film, which will focus on the life of three police officers during the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, also stars Hollywood actors Vinnie Jones, Alessa Novelli, Bobbie Philips and Bo Svenson among others. International actor Jesus Sans will play Mahatma Gandhi in the film, which will be directed by Karim Triadia. Produced by Nugen Media, the film will have music by Prashant Pillai and choreography by Saroj Khan. Nasser, who has over 200 films across multiple languages to his credit, has also worked in English films such as "Fair Game", "Nothing But Life" and "Morning Raga".
Kamal, Asin in an English flick
The name Walt Disney evokes respect and admiration world over for quality films in both the animation and live action categories. The latest news is that Walt Disney in association with Bharath Bala Productions will be producing a film in English titled '19 Steps'. The backdrop of the film would be martial arts and world audiences will get a taste of some exquisite Indian forms of combat like Kalaripayattu. Kamal Haasan is slated to play a veteran Kalaripayattu expert who takes it upon himself to train a young Japanese man. Popular Japanese star Tadanobu Asano will play the young man and the story would revolve around his quests in life. Asin is to play a character most actresses around the world would die for'.a local princess and a martial arts expert who finds herself falling in love with the Japanese lad in this period film. The film also traces the roots of Kalaripayattu. The movie is expected to be filmed with a budget of $50 million and will have versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Japanese. The story of the film is based on veteran Malayalam scriptwriter M. T. Vasudevan's earlier work. The writer is one of the highly respected personalities in India winning five National Awards for screenplay writing. However, Hollywood writers have been appointed to work on the script to make it compatible to international standards. The film will be directed by Bharath Bala and will have music by A. R. Rahman. Kamaraj speaks in Englsih
Remember director Balakrishnan's epic movie Kamaraj - The King Maker? The movie which dealt in detail about former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj and was produced by Ramana Communications, featuring Richard Madhuram, who passed away recently, in the title role. The likes of Charu Hassan and Mahendran are also in the cast and Ilayaraja had scored the music. The film won a State award also. Following the overwhelming response to the film, the producer has decided to release the film in English keeping the global audience in mind. The title will be The Kingmaker. The English version was recently previewed in Mumbai.
