Vijay’s father and director SA Chandrasekar said that he would foray into politics and not his son Vijay, as many are anticipating. The director, who also heads the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, said that Vijay is very busy for the next few years and therefore it is not possible for him to enter politics. However, they both understand the faith that the star’s fans have on them and so it was decided that SA Chandrasekar should enter politics and render service to people while Vijay continue his services as an actor and extend his support from the outside. Vijay has several films in the pipeline, including Velayutham, which is ready for release, and Nanban.
'DOR' Enters IAAC Film Festival in New York
Nagesh Kukunoor's critically acclaimed 'Dor' is all set to be screened at the annual IAAC (Indo American Arts Council) Film Festival this month. After screening 'Hyderbad Blues' and 'Teen Deewarein' this is the 3rd film of Nagesh Kukunoor to be screened at this illustrious film festival. Also taking place will be a press conference, discussions and a round of talks with acclaimed writer Salman Rushdie and his actress-model wife Padma Laxmi. The festival is really packed with very strong films this year and 'DOR' has made the line-up even better which is slotted on a Saturday under the Prime Screening Slot on November 4, 06. Opening with Mira Nair's new film 'The Namesake', the makers of 'DOR' are looking forward to the response. The film stars Ayesha Takia, Gul Panag, Shreyas Talpade, Girish Karnad and Pratiksha Lonkar and canvases the journey of two women from different worlds and how these two sets of lives come together through a tryst of destiny. 'Dor' makes you ask yourself how far you will one go to save the one you love. It's a story about love, loss, friendship, hope and ultimately, redemption.
UTV enters Hollywood, launches EX-TERMINATORS
UTV Motion Pictures sets another benchmark for the Asian film industry with its first solo Hollywood film production titled 'Ex-terminators'. Presently being shot in Texas, the film stars Heather Graham, Jennifer Coolidge, Matthew Settle, Joey Lauren Adams and Amber Heard. It marks the directing debut of veteran cinematographer John Inwood from the popular US award winning TV show 'Scrubs'. UTV Motion Pictures has tied up with Michaelson Films for this project, which started shooting in April 2008. Ronnie Screwvala will produce the film along with Jay Michaelson, Lawren Sunderland, and scriptwriter Suzanne Weinert. Says Ronnie Screwvala, CEO UTV 'Over the last few years, we have forged some great working relationships with the leading studios in Hollywood and with top acclaimed international talent. This has led to some unique projects such as The Namesake; I think I Love My Wife and The Happening. We are now proud to announce our first independent production in the US. It's a great script coupled with great talent behind the camera & front of it.' "Ex-terminators" is a dark comedy centering on Alex (Graham), a lonely accountant whose one act of rage results in her being sentenced to court ordered therapy. There she meets Stella (Coolidge), the owner of a small extermination business who uses her car as a weapon; and Nikki (Heard), a dental technician with the face of an angel and the mind of a sociopath. Together these women will form their own "silent revolution", wrecking havoc on the abusive men in their lives. Says the gorgeous Heather Graham, 'The script made me laugh! I could relate to feeling angry as a woman. I loved that it was a story about friendship. I have definitely never seen this movie before!' Sophie enters food industry
Sophie has just donned a new role that of a director. Before you come to wrong conclusion we wish to clarify that no the actress has not turned a film director. In fact she has been appointed as a Director of Friendly Food Factory known for their chain of hotels. Friendly Food Factory just launched Open Affair their first restaurant in Mumbai recently. Located at Carter Road, the restaurant boasts the best dals and kebabs in town. Besides Sophie, video directors Colossus and Ashok Chawla are a part of this venture too. And to mark her foray in the food industry, Sophie is throwing a big bash next week. Food is her passion and Sophie says that she can definitely balance her activities between being a director of a company and an actress in a film. "It's all about time management and I just know how to go about it," she smiles.
Akshay enters UK MILLIONAIRE CLUB
Akshay Kumar has proved his mettle as THE KING. He has now made his first ever entry into the UK's MILLIONAIRE CLUB! As per Studio 18, distributors of SINGH IS KINNG, the film is now UK's BIGGEST blockbuster of 2008. In 13 Days flat, the film has made £1.01 Million in 50 Sites. The film is still going strong, as can be witnessed in a super strong third weekend that the film has entered into.
Rayapati enters film industry
Noted industrialist and MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao is entering the film industry to make films along with his friend Sivarama Krishna. He is planning to make films with Prince Maheshbabu and Young Tiger NT Rama Rao. Maheshbabu would play in a film to be produced by Rayapati after completing 'Mirchi' on the banner of Durga Arts. Likewise, NTR would also act in the film to be made by Rayapati after completing the project with C Aswinidutt on the banner of Vyjayanti Movies under the direction of Hemambaradhar. However, Rayapati reportedly met both the heroes and got them sign the dotted line for his film and obtained their call sheets.
