Bhatts continue to churn movies belonging to drama genre and their upcoming 'Gangster' is no exception. But this time around there is also a slight twist in the tale. Apparently the movie has been titled 'Gangster - A Love Story'. Interestingly the movie comes with a rather eye catching tagline - "She fell in love with him...the day she betrayed him". Rumored to be inspired from the real life love story of Abu Salem and Monica Bedi, 'Gangster' promises to be a gripping tale of an emotional love triangle featuring the trio of Emraan Hashmi, Shiney Ahuja and new-find Kangna Ranaut.
Gangster is not about Abu Salem - Anurag Basu
Director Anurag Basu would have said it for the umpteenth time but now he wants to make it crystal clear. He says, "I want to make it clear that 'Gangster' is not based on Abu Salem's life. It is about a gangster who falls in love with a girl and the similarity just ends here. 'Gangster' is a love story and this is what we have been trying to convey through all means. There is no point talking anything more about it as audience will come to know about it when the film releases on 28th April." 28th April? I ask. Because some television channels are advertising the release to be on 21st April, when 'Pyaare Mohan' and 'Tom, Dick and Harry' release. "Arrey nahin", he says, "Don't go by this particular channel with a film information scroll running all the time because more often that not their information is imaginative. My film is positively coming on 28th, the date that was confirmed more than 2-3 weeks. The other release alongside is 'Darna Zaroori Hai'." Does DZH pose a threat to the prospects of 'Gangster'? "See, I won't deny that every film maker prefers the luxury of a solo release because ultimately two or more movies in a week do cut into the film's business. At least on the first weekend, this is more visible and then from there on a film wins on its own merit. Still, the good part is that DZH and Gangster belong to different genres and hence audience doesn't have to actually 'choose' between flicks", he says with confidence. On asked whether he is also confident due to the fact that the film's fresh talkie promos have created quite a buzz, he said, "Ya, I know. But then ultimately you cannot predict anything about a film's fate. Let the film come in a few days from now and then the audience would be doing all the talking."
Gangsters, the flavor
At a time when movies on underworld are holding the sway in Kollywood, director Lingusamy has decided to cash in on the trend. His forthcoming Bheema is also a movie on gangsters. Says Lingusamy, 'it is the movie on underworld. But would try to probe the other side of their life. Bheema would have action but would not be eye-soaring for the audience.' 'I had detailed discussion with Vikram on preparing himself for the title role. He has changed not just his looks, but also his body language and shed some weight to suit the role'. The movie has Trisha and Bollywood actor Nana Patrekar in the cast. Bheema being produced by A M Rathnam has musical score by Harris Jeyaraj. The first schedule of Bheema commenced a couple of days ago.
Bring the 'GANGSTER' to your home
Talking of Vishesh Films and Emraan Hashmi, it's time to look at their last hit together - GANGSTER. While the film is still doing reasonably well even 4 weeks after the release [when even some so-called biggies fall flat at the end of first week itself], it's time to bring the 'Gangster' home as the film's original DVDs and VCDs are out on stands. Starring Shiney Ahuja, who does a superb job in the lead role of a gangster, the film marks the debut of Kangana who plays her part well and makes an instant impression. The music of the film is topping the charts all over with each of the tracks being hits. Director Anurag Basu strikes again after 'Murder'!
