Choreographer turned actor and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence's Kanchana 2 has completed censor formalities with U/A certificate from the board. Lawrence has directed this third film in Muni franchise in Telugu and Tamil languages. Taapsee has played the female lead in this horror thriller that has Kovai Sarala in a pivotal role. Produced by Raghavendra Productions and distributed by Sri Thenandal Films, Kanchana 2 is slated for April 17th release with 2 hrs 45 mins running time.
'Kanchana 2' strikes gold at box office
Actor-filmmaker Raghava Lawrence's latest Tamil horror-comedy "Kanchana 2" has grossed a whopping Rs.10.83 crore in the first two days in Tamil Nadu since its release on Friday. "The movie has registered a phenomenal opening of Rs.10.83 crore in two days since its release in Tamil Nadu. At this rate, it's sure to set record opening weekend collections at the ticket window," trade analyst Trinath told. Directed by Lawrence, the film is part of the highly successful "Kanchana" franchise, which opened the floodgates to several horror-comedies in Tamil cinema over the years. "Kanchana 2" also features Taapsee Pannu, Nitya Menon and Kovai Sarla in important roles. Lawrencce has also hinted that "Kanchana 3" is in the offing.
Yesteryear Actress Kanchana back on screen!
Kanchana, the actress who was one of early glamour Queens to rock Telugu cinema, is making a come back as grandmother in a new film. She was popular for her bold acting in films like Preminchu Pelladu, Dharmadatha, Bhakta Tukaram, Private Master and many more. She retired after acting in Sri Datta Darsanam in 1986 from cinema. She had a serious affair with then big director and after not getting married to him, she dedicated her life to Datta Sai as his devotee and stopped acting in films. But after a long convincing sessions by director, Sandeep Vanga, she decided to play the role of a grandmother to Vijay Devarakonda in his new movie, Arjun Reddy. The movie will see her playing an urban grandmother who will advice her young grandson on life and she is the key for the story progression. Along with her and Vijay, Sanjay Swaroop, Jia Sharma and Gopinath Bhat will be seen in crucial roles. The movie has already started shooting and Kanchana will start shooting for her part from Wednesday. Director said that he had to convince Kanchana so much and it was not easy at all. He had to have many sessions about the script and tell how important she was for the part. When asked why only her, he said it was always her in his mind when he thought about the character who needed to understand urban mindset and speak in English convincingly.
Salman plans for a 3D Kanchana remake?
If reports from Bollywood are to be believed, Salman Khan has decided to remake Kanchana in Hindi. His brother Sohail Khan will be directing this film and there are plans to make it in 3D version. Salman is said to have seen Kanchana, directed by Raghava Lawrence, who also played an important role in the film and was mighty impressed. The box office success of Kanchana had prompted Salman to put all his other projects on hold and begin this remake, sources say. The director will base his script from that of Raghava Lawrence’s is the additional info we have on this remake.
Kanchana 2 release date
Choreographer turned actor and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence's Kanchana 2 is gearing up for a worldwide release on 16th April. Leading Telugu producer Bellamkonda Suresh bought the Andhra and Nizam distribution rights of this Telugu-Tamil horror thriller, while Raghavendra Production presents Kanchana 2 will be distributed by Sri Thenandal Films in Tamil Nadu. Third part in the Muni franchise, Kanchana 2 was in the making for almost a year now. Taapsee Pannu played the female lead, Kovai Sarala will be seen in a key role. Kanchana 2 audio album will be launched this Sunday [April 5], followed by film release on April 16.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali grabs Kanchana remake rights
Bollywood noted film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali has grabbed the remake rights of Raghava Lawrence’s commercial hit Kanchana. Bhansali will produce the Hindi version of the film while the latest buzz is Lawrence will don the director cap for Hindi version too. The details of the other cast and crew of the film are yet to be finalized. Bellamkonda Suresh produced the Telugu version with Lakshmi Rai as the leading lady and Sarath Kumar in a prominent role. Kanchana was sequel to Muni and the third part of the film Muni 3 is currently in progress which is also being directed by Lawrence and produced by Bellamkonda Suresh with Tapsee as the heroine.
