Controversy over MGR & Sivaji: Vikatan regrets

Following the resolution of 'The South Indian Cine Artistes' Association' (SICAA) that no filmy outfit would cooperate to the venture of 'Vikatan Talkies' (a production house of 'Ananda Vikatan) 'Siva Manasula Sakthi', the magazine has expressed its regrets over the publishing of the article by Jayamohan on MGR and Sivaji. The meeting held on 09.3.2008 passed resolutions condemning writer Jayamohan's derogatory article against the legendary Tamil actors MGR and Sivaji Ganasan in his article in his website and 'Ananda Vikatan' the magazine. The resolution demanded apologies from both the magazine and the writer. The resolution said that unless 'Ananda Vikatan' tenders an unconditional apology for the remarks, twenty four other associations affiliated to SICAA would not cooperate in the shooting of its film 'Siva Manasula Sakthi'. Another resolution condemning the writer said that if the apology from him is not forthcoming, steps would be taken to remove him as the dialogue-writer from the two films 'Naan Kadavul' and 'Angaadi Theru' in which he is currently working. Now 'Ananda Vikatan', which has a rich tradition in journalism and film production, has apologized for re-publishing the article in its latest issue, Jayamohan is yet to render his apology.

M.S Viswanathan was behind success of MGR, Sivaji: Rajinikanth

Superstar Rajinikanth said on Tuesday that late legendary composer M.S. Viswanathan has played a prominent role in the success of Tamil cinema doyens like M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) and Sivaji Ganeshan. "You will rarely find someone like MSV in any industry. He lived life like a selfless saint, free from jealousy and lies. He was behind the success of legends like MGR and Sivaji," Rajinikanth told reporters here. Rajinikanth was among many celebrities who paid their last respects to Viswanathan, popularly known as MSV, who passed away at a private hospital on Tuesday. MGR still charms

One man who created magic on both reel and real life was MGR. From a humble beginning, he went on to become a popular actor and then on to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Though he passed away a couple of decades ago, he still remains fresh in the hearts of his followers. Interestingly, his Nadodi Mannan, featuring MGR and Banumathi in pivotal roles got released again last week. The film of the late 50s, was directed by MGR himself, and he played a dual role. Released in six screens, the movie has witnessed a mammoth crowd in all the theatres. A rhetoric-laden MGR film at the start of his political rise, came as a boon to his fans and students of modern Tamil Nadu. The film has a Technicolor sequence in a tropical island. MGR fans are jubilant at the re-release of Nadodi Mannan. They feel it is a happy occasion to see their master again. So says actor-director Pandiarajan too. An avid MGR fan, he says, 'I was stunned at the response to MGR's films. He has no parallel.' Such is the power of MGR.
