Mughal-e-Azam hits Pakistan theatres

Mughal-e-Azam hit Pakistan theatres on April 22 morning 11am, thus becoming the first Indian feature film to be released in Pakistan after 41 years. The historic film beats Akbar Khan's film Taj Mahal by three days to hit the Pakistani theatres. Akbar Asif, son of legendary maker K Asif, is thus the first man to successfully open the cinematic gates of Pakistan for Bollywood films by releasing Mughal-e-Azam in the country. The print of Mughal-e-Azam was a gift to President Parvez Musharraf from Akbar Asif during the president's visit to London in 2004. Akbar Asif also went on to make Mughal-e-Azam to become the first film to secure permission to get the film released and the first film to get a censor certification in Pakistan. But his initial plans were to make the release as grand as the epic film itself. Using the gateway created by Akbar Asif, other makers moved in and it looked as if the man who paved their way for an Indo-Pak bridge would watch other films make the historical mark of securing the first release in Pakistan. Considering that the London-based tycoon has plans to find a new Anarkali through a major television hunt spreading over six months, following the release with huge prize moneys, the quiet move to release the film comes as a surprise. Speaking on the historical occasion, Akbar Asif said, "The move to be the cultural bridge between India and Pakistan was to fulfilled my father's dream of getting Mughal-e-Azam to be the first film to get permission to be screened in Pakistan". Elaborate plans were initially made to release the film in the presence of actors from around the globe and royalty, complete with fireworks from Japan. Agrees Asif, "We initially, wanted the film to get a grand premiere, but the thought struck me a few days ago that a film of the epic nature of Mughal-E-Azam needs no grandiose in terms of release. The film is itself the biggest and the grandest epic ever made in India." With this thought, Akbar Asif quietly moved his papers with the Pakistan government and finally the decision to have Mughal-e-Azam as the first film to be screened in Pakistan came through. Asif, who had previously gifted Rs 11,100,000 to the technicians who colored Mughal-e-Azam and promised the Akbar Asif Ko Anarkali Ki Talash to be the talent hunt of the millennium is elated at Mughal-e-Azam actually being the first Indian film to be released in Pakistan after over four decades. Says Akbar Asif, "The proceeds fro Mughal-e-Azam will go towards the earthquake-affected victims in Pakistan. But this is just the beginning of an Indo-Pak bridge. There is a lot in the offing. Anarkali will bring together India and Pakistan. I want to create a sense of friendship that would last beyond our lifetime".

Vishal-Shekhar and Pritam are mutual admirers

In world of cinema where back biting and professional rivalry is an order of the day, it comes across as quite a pleasant surprise to see some of the top composers in Bollywood being so kicked about each others work. There are two high profile albums that are slated to be the flavor of the season - METRO and TA RA RUM PUM. And guess what? Composers of both the films are gung go not just about their own music, but even their contemporary's! While the music of METRO has already released, TA RA RUM PUM would be coming in the middle of first week of April. On asked about what he thinks of close competition from friend Pritam, Vishal Dadlani says fondly, "Arrey, he is a hit-machine! It is good to see him doing so well while delivering ever so consistently. Now he has come up with a full-on rock album. I am very happy for him.' On the other hand Pritam too is sure that TA RA RUM PUM would be a sure fire success for Vishal-Shekhar duo. Reason? "First and foremost the two have really caught on well across age groups, especially the young crowd. Moreover TA RA RUM PUM has an inherent young look to it and I am sure that director Siddharth Anand and Vishal Shekhar, who return after SALAAM NAMASTE, would have done a good job yet again. Add to it the fantastic promotional strategy that Yash Raj Films apply, great star cast in the form of Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee and yuppie feel to the entire film, and be rest assured that the music would certainly sell like hot cakes!" Wish there were more such supportive people in the industry and it would have been one healthy world out there!

Mallika Sherawat-Rahul Bose revive MUGHAL E AZAM

Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya from Mughall-E-Azam, the unforgettable song picturised on immortal stars Madhubala and Dilip Kumar, has been revived once again! Director Sanjay Chhel shot the modern version of the song on his lead stars Mallika Sherawat and Rahul Bose for Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam. The spunky Mallika Sherawat and the dashing Rahul Bose share a crackling chemistry once again for this film backed by Venus Records and Tapes. Sherawat and Bose had come together for the first time in the super hit Pyar Ke Side Effects. It is the positive energy that Mallika and Rahul ooze on screen that instigated producer Ratan Jain to bring them together once again. Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam also stars Paresh Rawal in a stellar role. The film is expected to hit the theatres this year. Distributors are already falling all over each other to grab a territory and reap profits from the film.

Mallika 'ghearoed' by fans for MAAN GAYE MUGHAL E AZAM

Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam shoot almost came to a stand stilL during one of the schedules! Producer Ratan Jain had a tough time with the Pondicherry schedule of Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam. Not that there was a problem with the film's lead pair Mallika Sherawat and Rahul Bose. In fact Mallika and Rahul got along famously as co-stars. It was the massive public that had thronged the sets to catch a glimpse of the sexy Sherawat. Jain's repeated pleas to the people to keep their distance fell before deaf ears. The crowd just did not budge, refusing to keep their hands off Malika Sherawat. "This practically brought the shooting to a standstill. Fans kept gheraoing Mallika refusing to leave her alone. No matter what we did, they refused to leave and made extra efforts to come close and catch a glimpse of the actress," a unit member revealed. Producer Ratan Jain confirmed the incident saying, "Yes the situation had become slightly desperate and before it could go out of our hands I made bandobast of 100 security men immediately. Mallika is the lead actress of my film. Hence she was my responsibility and it was duty to see that there is optimum safety as a producer. I hired a local agency for her protection."

M.F. Husain revives 'Mughal E Azam' through paintings

Noted painter M.F. Husain has paid his personal tribute to K. Asif's epic film "Mughal-E-Azam" by recreating the movie's fabulous scenes in a series of exquisite paintings. "I love India. I loved the film and really wanted to show the grandeur and the power the film shows," Hussain said in a 22-minute documentary on K. Asif's timeless classic. Superstar Shah Rukh Khan presented the documentary made by his production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, at JW Marriot hotel Thursday night. The documentary shows how the film was transformed from black and white to colour and preserved for future generations. The documentary was an initiative by K. Asif's son, Akbar Asif, to keep the cinematic treasure alive. Along with Sharoopji Mistry, he had released the coloured version of the epic film in 2006. Shah Rukh said: "There are lots of such classics in the archive. But being stacked for a long time, the prints and negatives of those timeless films are decaying." "My motive of making this documentary is that lets all come together and spend some money to revive or preserve these films." Veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who played the role of Salim in the film, is the only actor alive among the whole cast and he would be shown the documentary, said Shah Rukh. "I have to go and show him the documentary. He would love to see it," he said.
