More news →SAAWARIYA advance booking is a surprise
If a highly placed official at one of the biggest multiplex chains across the country is to be believed, SAAWARIYA advance booking has been nothing short of a pleasant surprise. He says on the condition of anonymity, "Even if OM SHANTI OM opens at 100%, no one would be surprised. Everyone is pretty much prepared to face such a situation due to the Shahrukh Khan factor combined with immense buzz and hype." "What has surprised me though is the way audience seems to be making queues for SAAWARIYA advance booking", he adds, "Expect for Sanjay Leela Bhansali, on the face value one can't add much to the hype. Ok, so Ranbir and Sonam are there but in the end they are still newcomers. This is why it is refreshing to see that audience are willing to give the film a dekko even as they are all going for OM SHANTI OM."
SAAWARIYA fails completely in second week
All claims by the makers of SAAWARIYA stating that the film was finally finding an audience in the second week have proved to be untrue. The film has seen a massive fall in the second week and what seemed like at least an average status for the film has also come under a threat. Though the first week billing of SAAWARIYA was much better than just being face saving with as much as 20 crores coming in, more than 80% fall in collections as per the reported centers in the second week shows the writing clear on the wall. Film has seen a terrible decline all over with major cities like Mumbai accounting for mere 65 lakhs and Delhi being poor at 35 lakhs. Further nail in the coffin has been barely 2-3 shows per multiplex that now remain for the film in it's 3rd week. On the other hand JAB WE MET has shown a huge increase in it's fifth week and is now back with close to 6 shows at majority of multiplexes. The way SAAWARIYA is going, it may well be time for it's DVD release by the time DUS KAHANIYAAN takes over the screens on 7th December. GOAL looks at 100% collections over the weekend
Sameer joins Bhansali for Saawariya
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's films have always gathered momentum before they are completed. Be it Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam or Devdas or Saawariya. They all have their reasons to be in the limelight. Saawariya particularly has several reasons. It marks the debut of star kids Ranbir Rishi Kapoor and Sonam Anil Kapoor. If this was not enough, the film has Ismail Darbar's assistant Monty doing the music for the film. The music is experimental and very lively and different from the recent styles. Another piece of information here is that lyricist Sameer has joined the camp. He has already penned eight songs for the film. Four of those songs have been already recorded. Sameer is waiting for the music of the film to release for he feels his work in this film is an answer to his critics. He penned all the numbers in a very short span of time. The songs are meant to be light hearted, innocent and simple enough to help the leads express their love for each other in the film with absolute easy and simplicity and innocence.
Ranbir Kapoor in Saawariya
Rishi Kapoor's son Ranbir is acting for the first time in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya. Rishi Kapoor is also getting offers in big films. He has just signed Vipul Shah's Namaste London. It's a love story and Rishi is always known for his romantic lover boy image.

Bhansali miscalculated SAAWARIYA acceptance
Last week, in his PR column, when publicist Dale Bhagwagar said, "It's a mistake on the part of the makers of 'Saawariya' to knowingly pit their film opposite an SRK starrer," not many took him seriously. "I doubt if 'Saawariya' can give competition to 'Om Shanti Om' and hope it's not a case of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's over confidence v/s Shah Rukh Khan's star power. Because such a game, if lost, can give a jolt to the industry," he had mentioned in his column. Just a week later, his predictions seem to be coming true. Dale had feared that such unjustified competition between a debutante and a megastar could result in mega shocks. Decidedly, 'Om Shanti Om' is now said to be a much stronger product, while 'Saawariya' is already facing criticism on the directorial front, after its premiere. It can be noted here that Bhansali has always made films with very big stars. While 'Khamoshi' starred Salman Khan and Manisha Koirala, 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' had Salman, Ajay Devgan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. The makers' 'Devdas' went one step ahead to have a kind of a casting coup with Shah Rukh Khan pairing up with Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya, while 'Black' had the inimitable Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherji leading the cast. This is the first time Bhansali took up the mantle of being a star-maker, by launching new faces Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, along with Salman and Rani in special roles. "If 'Saawariya' was postponed to another week, it could have stood a better chance. I wonder why its makers couldn't see the crisis coming," says Dale, and explains, "PRs build perceptions, but perception-building is not the only aspect required for a film. The hype for 'Saawarya' has been tremendous, but it seems Sanjay Leela Bhansali not only over-rated his product but miscalculated its overall acceptance."
