More news →Shortcut Romeo' one step ahead of 'Johnny Gaddaar': Neil
Neil Nitin Mukesh says his forthcoming film "Shortcut Romeo", in which he plays a negative character, is a chance for him to take the hatred and vengeance of his character in the 2007 film "Johnny Gaddaar" one step ahead. In "Johnny Gaddaar", Neil played Vikram, a member of a gang which runs a gambling club and conducts other underhand deals. In the film, his character goes to any extent to make money. Neil's performance was appreciated. "For the last few years, I was in search of such a script that could carry me one step ahead of 'Johhny Gaddaar'. Then I got a chance to meet Susi Ganeshan. He told me about this story ('Shortcut Romeo'). Then I felt that if I had to carry forward the character of 'Johnny Gaddar', 'Shortcut Romeo' is the film," Neil said here in an interview. In "Shortcut Romeo", the aim of Neil's character is to get rich anyhow. "Through this film ('Shortcut Romeo'), I can carry forward the look and style (mannerisms and character) of 'Johnny Gaddaar'," added the 31-year-old. "Shortcut Romeo" is the remake of Ganeshan's super hit Tamil film "Thiruttu Payle" and also features Ameesha Patel and Puja Gupta. The film is releasing June 21.
Shortcut Romeo' Neil backs Sonam's 'Raanjhanaa'
Neil Nitin Mukesh's own film "Shortcut Romeo" released Friday, but he also wishes well for the fate of his close friend, actress Sonam Kapoor's "Raanjhanaa", which released on the same day. Neil feels the movies will mark a new beginning for both of them. "Sonam in 'Raanjhanaa' is completely transformed. I can see the change in her. I feel it would be like a new beginning for her. It's like what happened to Karisma Kapoor after 'Raja Hindustani' or Shabana Azmi in 'Arth'," said Neil. Neil and Sonam developed a good friendship ever since they worked together in Abbas-Mustan's "Players". They have kept close tabs on each other's projects since, and even make sure they watch one another's films. There's a healthy give-and-take of criticism from both ends. Neil himself feels a similar change in his own work in "Shortcut Romeo". "Believe me, I've never worked so hard. Because the director Susi Ganesh is completely new to Hindi cinema and Bollywood, I was virtually the one-point stopover for the entire project in Mumbai," he said. The actor says he served as the hero, the chief assistant, the production co-ordinator and the spotboy on this one. "My involvement with 'Shortcut Romeo' was so deep that I forgot where the actor was left behind and the all-purpose project coordinator took over. Susi is completely alien to Bollywood. I had to lead him through the entire project. But I enjoyed every bit of it," he added. Neil is confident of "Shortcut Romeo" in spite of competition from his friend's film, which is already doing brisk business. "I know 'Raanjhanaa' is a big one. Everyone wants to see the love story between Sonam and Dhanush. So do I. But we are advantaged by our budget. 'Raanjhanaa' is a Rs.30 crore to Rs.35 crore project. We completed 'Shortcut Romeo' within Rs.15 crores although we shot in some of the most exotic spots of the world," said Neil. Nevertheless, Neil is all for "Raanjhanaa", and even confident of his own film. "'Shortcut Romeo' was a huge success in Tamil. And we've gone many steps ahead of the Tamil original 'Thiruttu Payale' in terms of treatment and execution," he added.
Puja Gupta feels 'Shortcut Romeo' is her debut film
Puja Gupta has already featured in films like "F.A.L.T.U." and "Go Goa Gone," but feels her next movie, "Shortcut Romeo", is her real debut. "I feel this is my debut film. Neil (Nitin Mukesh) says that about me a lot as well and I hope people really like me in this avatar," the 24-year-old said here Thursday at a special screening of the film. Puja believes it is her first big commercial romantic film and so, it is very dear to her. "I am shaking (shivering out of nervousness) right now because for me, it is my first full commercial big film, where I am this actress, running around jungles and singing songs. It's my first romantic film, so it's very dear to me," Puja said. Directed by Susi Ganesh, "Shortcut Romeo" also stars actress Ameesha Patel. It hit theatres Friday.
