More news →'Ungli' not a typical Bollywood film: Emraan Hashmi
Actor Emraan Hashmi says his forthcoming movie "Ungli" is not a typical Bollywood film, but he admits that some elements have been added to it to make it more mainstream. "It ('Ungli') is not a typical Bollywood film," the 35-year-old said in an interview. "(It is) A film having social relevance, along with other elements of society like corruption, where the common man is not able to raise his voice against corrupt powers and injustice happening to him and a gang, whose extreme measure is to fight injustice, comes to help him. I think this has rarely happened in our Bollywood films," he added. Directed by Rensil D'Silva, "Ungli" is a fun take on the angst of today's youth and chronicles the story of five friends, who act as vigilantes against the corrupt powers and injustice. There was perhaps no scope for music in the film, however, a special song "Dance Basanti" was shot for the film as it forms an important part of Hashmi's introductory scene in the film. "There was no scope for music in the film but Rensil devoted one year finding music for it," said the actor, whose films are known to be packed with hit music. "A song was needed for my introduction scene in the film and we needed a good song for that. So we thought of this track. It is a fantastic and catchy track. I loved shooting for it," he added. "Ungli" also stars Kangana Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt, Randeep Hooda, Neha Dhupia and Neil Bhoopalam. It will hit the theatres Friday.
Shraddha turns into item girl for 'Ungli'
Actress Shraddha Kapoor, known for her roles in "Aashiqui 2" and "Haider", will be seen as a glamorous item girl in Karan Johar's production venture "Ungli". Directed by Rensil D'Silva, "Ungli" stars Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut in the lead. "I don't know whether to call it an item song or a promotional song, but yes, it's a very different thing that I am doing," Shraddha, who will team up with Emraan in the song, told. "Karan offered me the song and said: 'You have never been seen like this before. It's a very glamorous song.' So all that excited me and I said yes to it. The moment I heard the song, I was all the more excited as it's such a catchy song," she further added. Titled "Dance Basanti", the song choreographed by Bosco-Caesar will go on air Tuesday. When asked does the song have any link to Hema Malini's Basanti from "Sholay", she said: "I guess, it's definitely a take from original Basanti. It's a modern day twist. I can't compare myself with Hemaji's Basanti. She is the original legendary Basanti."
Kajol's unflinching commitment
Everybody knows that Ajay Devgan and wife Kajol performed a lovely salsa for 'Jee le..' in 'U, Me Aur Hum' but what nobody knows is that Kajol displayed heights of professionalism while shooting for the song, despite an injury!!! Says a unit member, "We shot the song 'Jee le..' on the cruise liner. Ashley Lobo has done the choreography. Once while performing the number in the evening Kajol had to leap down from the upper deck and during the leap she badly sprained her ankle and fell down with much injury, thanks to her five-inch heels! But despite that, she took some painkillers and shot the very next day for the same shot with full bravado!" The insider adds, "Kajol is such is a professional and always listens to the director. Plus Ajay too was very calm and composed and encouraged Kajol to give her best" Ajay says, "I wanted a salsa for the song and the steps because that was the requirement of the script. It was an expensive shoot - more than 100 dancers and we had a crowd of about 600 people on the cruise. First we decided what the requirement of the script was and then Vishal made the salsa number. Once Kajol is convinced about the script and the screenplay you don't need to convince her about anything else. It was highly brave and professional of her to finish the shoot despite her bad leg injury." Well, we always knew Kajol was a director's actress!!
Ranbir: Projects unlimited!
The going has been smooth for this Kapoor cub! Though his 'Saawariya' did not shake the BO, he sure has made a mark and has been having a steady flow of films to his credit. The latest buzz is that he has signed a film with Rajkumar Santoshi and the film has been titled 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani', that will see Ranbir sharing screen space with Katrina Kaif. There were also rumours that this couple had very good on-screen chemistry and looked great together. Ranbir who has been receiving the roles of a casanova or a romantic hero in his films so far will reportedly be touching base with a very different role in this Santoshi film. Insiders reveal that Ranbir will be essaying the role of a hero with a good amount of humour to it. It is indicated that 'Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani' will have the hero who has lots of lows in life but still puts on on a brave front and cheers people around him forgetting his personal woes. Director Rajkumar Santoshi was earlier quoted as saying that he noticed that Ranbir had a subtle essence of his granddad, the legend Raj Kapoor, in him and that was the reason for signing him for this film. Now lets wait it out and see if this grandson brings praise to his granddad!
My role in 'Bank-Chor' unlike stereotypical comedian: Kapil Sharma
Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma, who is ready to make a film debut with Yash Raj Films' (YRF) "Bank-Chor", says his role in the movie defies the stereotypical portrayal of a comedian. The 32-year-old has signed a three-film contract with YRF. "Bank-Chor" will be produced under the production banner's Youth Films Division Y-Films, which made "Mere Dad Ki Maruti". "It’s a privilege and a dream to be part of the YRF family and have my launch with their Youth Films Studio, Y-Films. The script is the most exciting part since it's the kind of role that's very unlike the stereotype of a comedian or what people could typecast me as," Kapil said in a statement. He says that he has already started "working on the nuances of the character". "I've always loved and watched thrillers and this is a thriller comedy, so it's even better," said the star comedian, who has become a rage courtesy his hit chat show "Comedy Nights With Kapil". He is excited about turning over a new leaf with the movie. "I’ve done serious theatre for years before comedy. Finally with YRF’s vision, I’ll get to do this again after a 12-year break and this script has equal scope of comedy. It’s sure to surprise my fans," he said. "Bank-Chor", directed by Bumpy and produced by Ashish Patil, is a comic caper that tells the story of three people who pick a wrong day to rob a bank. What happens when the trio is inadvertently caught in a crossfire of cops, industrialists and corrupt politicians, forms the rest of the story.
