S. J Suryah goes for image make-over

After movies such as 'New' and 'Ah Aah' the name S. J. Suryah became synonymous with double entrende and adult jokes. Looks like this is not keeping S. J. Suryah in good cheer at the box office these days. The actor-director wants to go for an image makeover in order to get a new lease of life in the industry. He is reportedly choosing stories very carefully for his forthcoming ventures. Films including 'Puli' and 'Newtonin Moonram Vidhi' don't have any semblance of sensuality say sources close to the director. S J Suryah is now planning to direct an animation film titled 'Pesum Deivangal'. It is expected to be a visual treat for children. S J Suryah is planning to play the lead role in it. Animated lions, tigers and elephants would be seen along with S. J. Suryah in the film. Plans are on to commence the animation flick once he completes his Telugu film 'Puli' starring Pawan Kalyan.

A musical year!

With just a few days left to enter the New Year, a look back at 2006 highlights the abundant musical talent that the Tamil film industry encompasses. With Rahman, Ilayaraja, Harris Jayaraj, Vidyasagar and Yuvan coming out with catchy tunes, the industry saw several songs topping the charts. Rahman had his Ah Aah and Sillunu Oru Kadhal released this year. The films were decent hits and few songs were big hits. Mention can be made of 'Mayiliragae' from Ah Aah and 'Munbae Vaa' from Sillunu Oru Kadhal. All eyes are now on Rahman, who is working for Rajinikanth's Sivaji. In Bollywood, Rahman is undoubtedly the number one, for, his work in Rang de Basanti and the latest Guru has won great accolades. Vidyasagar, who had an excellent hit in Chandramukhi last year, had an average year. He scored music for several movies including Em Mahan and Sivapathikaram. Srikanth Deva, who composed music for over half-a-dozen movies including E made a name for himself, coming up with foot-tapping numbers. Bharadwaj had his slice of luck in Thirupathi (directed by Perarasu for AVM Productions). It was a contest between Yuvan Shankar Raja and Harris this year. Yuvan had a long list of hits this year including Pudhupettai, Pattiyal and the recent Vallavan. His Loosu Pennae has become an anthem among the youth. Yuvan's tunes in Paruthi Veeran are already popular now. Harris Jayaraj began the year with a bang. His songs in Ullam Ketkumae became popular. Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu was also heard everywhere. His recent Telugu film Sainikudu brought him fame in Andhra Pradesh. Joining the race at the last moment is G V Prakash. Nephew of A R Rahman, the 18-year-old boy's work in Veyyil has been appreciated by music-lovers. Let's hope for an interesting contest next year too.

Nila speaks her mind out

Nila, the young girl is one who speaks her mind sharply and boldly. Nila, who was introduced in Tamil films through Ah Aah, is now acting in Lee with Sibiraj. Nila has some strong opinions on the way Tamil movies are being made. Nila feels whatever the film be and whoever its hero, the heroine gets only 45 minutes of footage in a film that runs for three hours. Looks like actress has a matured and intelligent mind ticking.

Nilas chances on Lee

Back in Chennai to shoot for her next venture Lee is Nila. The Delhi-girl, who made a glamorous beginning with S J Suryah's Ah Aah, is hoping to turn things around with Lee. 'I had an average outing in Jambhavan. Unfortunately the movie couldn't do well. Hope Lee revives my fortunes.' Asked why she did not team up with Suryah after Ah Aah, Nila, says, ' I was approached for his Thirumagan directed by Rathnakumar. But I was asked to play a rural belle, which I felt would not suit my image. Hence I declined the offer'. Nila is getting good offers in Telugu. She says, 'Doing Telugu films makes me feel happy. Unlike Tamil films where heroines get limited scope to perform, Tollywood gives more screen space for us'. Lee would usher a fresh lease of life not just for me but also Sibiraj, she says.

Sibiraj on the prowl

Sathyaraj's home production starring his son Sibiraj in the lead role will hit the floors next month. The movie to be directed by Kokki fame Prabhu Solomon will feature Ah Aah fame Nila as the heroine. In spite of acting in nearly half-a-dozen films, Sibiraj is yet to make it big in Kollywood. He is hoping to make it possible with his father's production venture. For the movie, he has shed several kilos of weight and has grown beard. The director was searching for a suitable heroine to Sibiraj for the last few months. His search finally ended with assigning Nila to take the mantle. Nila made her debut in Ah Aah and created news by walking out of the sets of Jambhavan. Now after a peace deal was struck between her and the producers, she is back to shoot for the movie.
