Lataji, the living musical legend is recuperating from illness. She was recently down with viral flu. This has pushed back many of her recordings that she was to do last month. There is a song for Shamir Tandon who is doing the music for Madhur Bhandarkar's next film. She was quite happy to have worked with such a young talented music director. The songs like Kitne Ajeeb from Page 3 keeps Lataji young and ticking. She also has Oriya and Bengali films for recording. She also has a song pending for Vinay of the Nikhil Vinay duo. They have long parted ways. Vinay is composing music for his elder brother's film. Fortunately old music director duo Anand Milind has not parted ways. They are composing music for a new film Kuch Tum Bhi Kaho Kuch Hum Bhi Kahein. They have been busy on it for over a month. It is for this film that the duo has reunited with Lataji after a long time interval. Lataji was incidentally the first singer to record for Anand Milind in their times. The music directors are waiting for her to recuperate completely before they start working. Lataji also has a special recording with Aadesh Shrivastav.
Anand Raj Anand: Remixing is a violation of intellectual property rights
'It's not fair when after doing everything, someone else take the credit for doing very little. I've remixed my own songs in my upcoming film Aryan,' says music composer Anand Raj Anand who is joining the ever-growing list of disgruntled composers who are unhappy with the mauling that their 'originals' receive at the hands of shake-a-bum-DJs. With the menace of piracy, clawing at the revenue share, the music companies want the DJs as it adds value to the music album as a product. In a way it also serves as an incentive to the customer for getting more than what he asks for. Moreover, the number of songs is getting lesser in a film, so a remix of each song makes more numbers in an album. The DJs are laughing all the way to the bank as they end up having loads of shows and bulk projects 'I personally don't agree with the ethics involved in what the DJs are doing these days. It's a violation of intellectual property rights. The situation is similar to the fact that someone makes a painting and someone else adds a small dash of color at the end of it and calls the painting as his own. All I can say is'.It happens only in India,' Anand Raj Anand reiterates. Initial reaction of Anand Raj Anand might have been an honest outburst, but during the course of the conversation, his words cloaked a more diplomatic stance. 'It's not as if I am against someone remixing my songs for ultimately it has to be an understanding between the music composer, the music company and the DJ who has to remix. Everyone has to be taken into confidence,' he says sheepishly. The reason for this change-of-heart is the aggressive bent-of-mind followed by the music companies as they are not willing to pander to anyone's whims and fancies. Nobody is indispensable, they feel. And Anand Raj Anand is no Himesh Reshamiya to get away with anything. But the tussle for creative supremacy shall surely get into a bloody conflict sooner or later. Till that time, could you please pump up the volume on DJ Akbar Sami's Tu Hi Meri Shab Hai.
Anand's Indian citizenship questioned
NEW DELHI: World chess champion Viswanathan Anand was denied an honorary doctorate from University of Hyderabad because the government is confused over his citizenship. The University of Hyderabad had decided to award Anand an honorary doctorate in 2009 and formally forwarded the proposal to the human resource development ministry recently. Since all foreign awardees require approval from the ministry of external affairs, the HRD ministry raised the citizenship queries to the university as Anand lives with his wife in Spain. "We are very upset. We don't have to prove to anyone if we are Indian," said an upset Aruna Anand, wife of the world champion. "Anand has given everything to the game and also he has no time to take the award and attend the event", she further added. University sources said all relevant documents were forwarded to the ministry, which was expected to approve them and send them to President Pratibha Patil, who holds the official title of Visitor at the University of Hyderabad.
Anand Raj Anand composes two songs for CWG, to perform at opening ceremony
Bollywood music composer and singer Anand Raj Anand has composed what he calls a “common man’s tribute” to the Oct 3-14 Commonwealth Games. He will also be performing the two songs live at the opening ceremony. His two songs- “Invitation” and “Celebration” – have a common slogan – “Come out and play”. While the former is a “heartwarming”, the latter is aimed at being “foot-tapping”, according to Anand. “I will be performing both these songs on the opening ceremony of Commonwealth Games. I thank the organising committee and Wizcraft Entertainment for allowing me to perform on the special occasion,” Anand told reporters at a press conference here Monday. While A.R.Rahman’s anthem for CWG has been criticised for its slow pace, Anand’s song has a heavy Punjabi flavour, adding a lot of energy to it. Even CWG mascot Shera performed ‘Bhangra’ to the tune at the event. “I had thought that if young, college going students feel like dancing in the club on this number, it will be a big success for me. It is for them to dance on and rejoice,” he added. The idea of composing a song for the spirit of CWG struck Anand when his son asked him what the event is all about. “I realised that children don’t even know the agenda of the event. There is so much negativity about it. I feel we should balance it out with the positive aspects too. We have to celebrate the pride of being together for this event, and so I just felt like creating these songs,” he said. Two music videos will also be released for the songs Sep 24, and an audio CD will be released by Times Music.
