Anwar is a realistic film, said Mahesh Bhatt

'It is wonderful to see such a realistic film based on the essential issues of today, done in an aesthetic manner and I wish the team of Anwar all the best,' said Mahesh Bhatt at the music launch of Manish Jha's 'Anwar' yesterday in an event in Mumbai. Present at the launch were Producer Rajesh Singh, Director Manish Jha, Javed Jaffrey, Soni Razdan and the cast and crew Manisha Koirala, Siddharth Koirala, Nauheed Cyrusi, Music Directors Mithoon and Pankaj Awasthi and lyricist Hassan Kamal. Minister Rajendra Singh Rana, IT Minister (UP) inaugurated the audio and Mahesh Bhatt released the CD. All the guests had a really great time, and enjoyed the music. The highlight of the launch was the sincere touch given to the musical theme by Nauheed Cyrusi and Siddharth Koirala, who appeared as their characters, with Nauheed in a Burkha and Siddharth dressed per his role in the film, and they sashayed around as the music started to flow in. Anwar is about a young man Anwar, an artist, who leaves his home and everything he knows in order to escape a world he no longer recognizes. He finds himself trapped inside a temple and in the process exploited by people with vested interests. It marks the debut of Siddharth Koirala, and his first appearance with sister Manisha.

Anwar is a sensible film, says Manish Jha

Rajesh Singh's 'Anwar' under his banner Dayal Creations Private Ltd, directed by Manish Jha, is all set for release on 29th December, 2006. Starring Manisha Koirala, Rajpal Yadav, Vijay Raaz, Yashpal Sharma, Hiten Tejwani, Nauheed Cyrusi, Sudhir Pandey, Pankaj Jha and Siddharth Koirala, the film is about the story of a young man 'Anwar', an artist, who leaves his home and everything he knows in order to escape a world he no longer recognizes. Manish Jha who had earlier made his debut with a purposeful film on female infanticide 'Mathrubhoomi is now all set with another meaningful film. Says Manish Jha, 'I have to go ahead as a filmmaker. I have to learn a lot. I am happy with the way 'Anwar' has shaped. Making wise as well as genre-wise, 'Anwar' is quite different from 'Mathrubhoomi' though comparisons are going to be there. 'Anwar' is a sensible film, which has a very contemporary story, inspired by the celebrated short story Phalgun Ki Ek Upkatha written by Priyamvad.' Rajesh Singh who is basically into construction business asserts that he is basically into a mode of experimenting as a film producer. "I liked the subject when Manish Jha narrated it to me. With 'Anwar', I have learnt the art of making film in a budget,' he says.

'Anwar' is looking interesting

Coming Friday sees the release of 'Anwar' that stars Siddharth Koirala in the title role. Pitted against 'Guru', it is indeed a tough task for 'Anwar' to make its presence felt at the box office but by the look of things; it does appear to be a good dramatic outing in the offering. Based on the backdrop of an innocent man [Anwar] caught in the web of politics, communism, media, law keepers and last but not the least, betrayed love, the film is the second directorial outing of Manish Jha who had debuted with a stunning and hard hitting 'Matrabhoomi' a few years back. Initial reports indicate that 'Anwar' is yet another good effort by Jha who has walked a tight rope in narrating the tale of the central protagonist named 'Anwar' and extracted superlative performances by his entire main and supporting cast. Meanwhile two of the songs from the film, 'Maula Mere' and 'Tose Naina Laage', have already caught fancy of the lovers of melodious music and are gracing the music charts.

Arshad-Anwar sibling newsbreak - A publicity stunt?

Is the news break around Arshad Warsi and yesteryear singer Anwar being siblings a publicity stunt? If one looks at the current state of affairs, it definitely seems so! That's because very recently, a private album by Anwar, titled 'Tohfa', has arrived on stands. While there may not have been much buzz if Anwar's album would have seen a soft launch, the theory making the rounds shows a different picture. With Arshad story being floated around the town, it certainly seems to be adding mileage to Anwar's recent album. For the starters, recently there was news around Anwar and Arshad being step brothers. Anwar's father Aashiq Hussain was a theatre personality. Arshad is Aashiq's son from his second marriage. In the past Anwar has sung tracks like 'Humse Ka Bhool Hui' from JANTA HAWALDAR and 'Mohabbat Ab Tijarat Ban Gayi Hai' from ARPAN.

Saeed Anwar says no to PCB’s chief selector post

Lahore, Feb.26 (ANI): Former Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar has rejected the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) offer to become the chief selector, and instead expressed his desire to don the cap of the batting consultant of the national team. Anwar said he has turned down the PCB’s offer as he believes that he would not be able to do justice to the post. “I was offered the post of chief selector but I told the PCB chairman that I could not take up the job as I don’t think I would be able to do justice to the position. But I have told him that I do want to help the Pakistan team and I can do this as a batting consultant,” The Daily Times quoted Anwar, as saying. PCB chief selector’s position has been lying vacant after Iqbal Qasim’s resignation following Pakistan’s terrible tour of Australia, where they were whitewashed in both the Test and ODI series. Anwar, who spends most of his time in religious preaching after hanging his boots in 2003, also backed the PCB’s idea of appointing former pacer Waqar Younis as the new team coach. “I think it would be a great move because he is well respected and has impressive cricketing background and knowledge of modern day requirements,” he said.
