Nari Kurava folklore in Mysskin's 'Nandhalala'

After tasting sweet success with his first two films 'Chithiram Pesudhadi' and 'Anjathey', director Mysskin is on a high and is currently acting and directing the film 'Nandhalala'. The film is about two characters, a seven year old boy and a thirty year old 'child-like' man embarking on a journey in search of their respective mothers. They meet a number of people on the way and end up being influenced by them. One such influence comes from a group of Narikuravargal (also known as Kurivikarargal). In what can be termed as the very first attempt, Mysskin has roped in an old Nari Kurava woman to sing a song that hitherto has been exclusive to their community. The association with 'Nandhalala' and Nari Kuravas does not end here. Many of these gypsies have also been made to act in the film. The song features probably to bring about authenticity to the portions that they are involved with. According to reports, Saroja, the name of the Nari Kurava woman hesitated initially when she was brought to the recording studio. After a while she asked if she could get some liquor. After she did have her request fulfilled, the woman sang the song 'Hallile' which stunned everyone present there. Director Mysskin is of the opinion that 'Hallile' could very well be the next 'Vaale Meenu'. The director is also happy that he has been successful in bringing a folk song that has been trapped due to social constraints to cinema. Cinema however will take care of publicizing this song. Incidentally the song 'Hallile' is all about praising God in his entire splendor. ' Nandhalala' introduces 'Kathala Kannala' fame Snigitha as the heroine.

B'day bash for Kamal!

Kamal Haasan turns 53 this Wednesday. An actor synonymous to hard work, dedication and commitment is a name to reckon with in Indian cinema. In his career, Haasan has approached each role with equanimity. Kamal Haasan, a four time National Film Award winner, began his career as a child artist with 'Kalathoor Kannamma' and initially did a lot of stage plays. His repertoire now boasts more than two hundred Indian films. Given a new identity by K Balachander, Kamal Haasan has operated varied roles with ease. He was awarded India's fourth highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri for his services to Indian cinema in 1990. His film, 'Nayakan', which won 18 Filmfare awards, has been rated as one of the top 100 films of all time by 'Time' magazine in 2005. Moreover, he is the only actor to have seven of his films being nominated as official entry to the Oscars and also has been awarded 'Living legend in film business' by FICCI this year Films like '16 Vayathinilae', 'Manmadha Leelai', 'Avargal', 'Aval Apadithan', 'Sigappu Rojakkal', 'Aboorva Sagodharargal', 'Nayakan' speaks a lot about his acting credentials. Haasan has essayed a variety of different roles in his film career spanned over 38 years but what sets him apart is that he is perhaps the only actor to have captured hearts of people in South Indian film industry while stamping his mark in Bollywood. Whether playing an unemployed youth in the 1988 silent movie 'Pesum Padam' or flaunting a saree in 'Avvai Shanmughi', Kamal Haasan's excellence in role-play never failed to leave a mark in the minds of audiences. He is one of the few film personalities who have tried his hands in all aspects of film making, be it direction, lyrics, choreography, screenplay or story writing. He has also lent his voice to a number of songs. Born on November 7, 1954, Haasan is one of the few actors who have always believed in experimentation. Adding one more feather in his cap is soon-to-be released 'Dasavatharam'. He is playing ten characters in it. Let's wish the actor, a happy birthday on this day.

Happy Birthday to our Super Star!

The man with a magnetic personality. Charm, that spells success at every step of the way. Yes indeed, we are talking about Rajinikanth, a name that is capable of wooing millions, not just in the desi scene, but all over places where Tamil cinema is familiar. Called the Super Star by people here in India and the 'Dancing Maharaja' by the Japanese post his super-hit film 'Muthu,' Rajinikanth is the perfect example of a man who came, saw and conquered, with his sheer persona, charisma and of course, his unique style. Rajinikanth is truly a legend, for his beginnings were humble, in the truest sense of the word. He has risen to the level of an icon with his hard work and determination. Be it the baddie in films like 16 Vayadhinile, Avargal, Netrikann and Moondru Mudichu, or the romantic hero in Thambikku Endha Ooru, Kodi Parakudhu, Maapillai and many other films, Rajinikanth proved himself capable of many dimensions. He suited the roles given to him to a T. Which is why, he is still the reigning Super Star, the uncrowned Baadshah. 'What makes a person a success? Nature of Nurture?' is a common debate among psychologists worldwide. Rajinikanth defies the debate, for by nature, he is a bundle of talent and his mentor K. Balachander's nurture moulded him to perfection. Today is the Super Star's birthday. We at musicmazaa.com, the one stop portal for quality film content, take utmost pride in wishing the son of our Indian soil a very happy birthday and many more years of fame, happiness and success.
