'Ayan' team in upbeat mood

It was a star studded press meet that was held to announce the launch of 'Ayan', a movie from AVM, starring Suriya and Tamanna in the lead. The press meet followed the launch of the function held in AVM Studios this morning (24, March). Almost all the members of the unit attended the press meet and shared a few words with the media persons. Suriya, who has earlier done 'Perazhagan' with AVM, is doing his second movie with the prestigious company. The story is said to be a romantic comedy laced with lot of action. Suriya plays a cool guy who makes others laugh. Tamanna, who has got a real break after her good performance in Balaji Sakthivel's 'Kalloori', is quite happy to act opposite a leading young star. Director K.V Anand briefed about the title in the press meet. He said that 'Ayan' means outstanding or excellence. The word is there in at least five languages including Tamil, informed the director. It can also mean, said the director, the power from sun rays. 'So I think Suriya is apt for the title role.' Music director Harris Jeyaraj, who is doing his first movie with AVM, informed that he spent 10 days in Mauritius along with the director to compose songs for the film. Vairamuthu, who writes the lyrics for all the songs, told that 'Ayan' in Tamil denotes the four headed God Brahma. He also showered praise on AVM, which stays on top for so many years. He also quoted a couple of lines from a song penned by him for the movie and attributed the lines to Suriya and AVM. Suriya recalled his association with the seasoned production company. He also said that the whole unit has understood the responsibility of working on a film for AVM, which produced the blockbuster 'Sivaji'. 'I will give my 100 % to ensure the success of this movie', declared the actor. He also said a few words on the relationship between him and Harris, who has scored music for three of his films 'Khakka Khakka', 'Ghajani' and 'Vaaranum Aayiram'. The movie, which will go to floors by May, is scheduled to be shot in Malaysia and South Africa. Many of its portions will be shot in Chennai as well. Keep watching this space for the latest on 'Ayan'.

'Ayan' team flies to South Africa

The cast and crew of AVM's 'Ayan' will fly down to South Africa to shoot the movie. Starring Suriya and Tamanna in lead roles, the movie is directed by cinematographer - director K V Anand. Stating that the venture was 'a dream come true', Suriya said that he was supposed to have acted in his film earlier but could not do so due to call sheet problems. 'I am acting in different getups in 'Ayan'. The film is a wholesome entertainer for the entire family. The crux of 'Ayan' is about a 23-year-old and how he attains his goals in life.' Director K V Anand said an ad film's idea sowed the seeds for 'Ayan'. 'I discussed this story with Suriya and he liked it. That's how 'Ayan' happened,' he said. Harris Jayaraj has been roped in to set the tunes.

'Ayan': Coming together of friends!

We all are now aware that after Suriya's 'Varanam Aayiram' with Goutham Menon. Suriya will next be seen in 'Ayan'. 'Ayan' will see Suriya and 'Kalloori' fame Tamanna playing the main characters. This film will be directed by K.V. Anand and the cinematography for this film will be by M.S. Prabhu. It worthy to say that it was K.V. Anand who was responsible for the cinematography of the superstar's super grosser 'Sivaji-The Boss'. Now, what many are not aware is that K.V. Anand and M.S. Prabhu have worked as juniors to ace cinematographer and national award winner P.C. Sriram who has been a mentor to some of the top cinematographers in the Indian film industry, some of whom include the director of this film K.V. Anand, Tirru and Jeeva, the director of 'Unnale Unnale' who is now no more. Both the friends have tasted success and are on their journey to more success. With this film 'Ayan' the two disciples of a great master will be getting together. Let us hope that this film brings some new ideas to direction as well as cinematography.

'Ayan' - From Malaysia to Zanzibar

Suriya starrer 'Ayan' was shot extensively in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The crew is now planning to shift to exotic locales in Zanzibar (part of the Eastern African Republic of Tanzania). Says a happy cinematographer - director K V Anand, ' 'Ayan' starring Suriya and Tamanna is shaping up fast. AVM Productions deserves a pat for giving us necessary encouragement to shoot the film.' We shot a few stunt sequences in Malaysia, which was choreographed by William Hong of 'Billa' fame. Now we are planning to shoot some important scenes in Zanzibar as places like Australia and Switzerland have been exposed well in Tamil cinema a lot'. 'Suriya is busy completing 'Varanam Aayiram' and Tamanna with Ananda Thandavam. Once those movies are over, 'Ayan' will be completed in one go', he added.

Will 'Ayan' and 'Aegan' get new names?

Tamil films have started triggering debates over the language of Tamil. The fresh debate over the root of the words 'Ayan' and 'Aegan' has raised many questions over naming Tamil films. 'Ayan' (starring Suriya) means Brahma, the God, who creates and 'Aegan' (starring Ajith) means Siva, the God, who destructs. Though both words find a place in Tamil dictionary, it is said that the titles would be changed, as these words do not have their roots in Tamil. They, according to some scholars, were borrowed from Sanskrit and hence they cannot be considered as Tamil titles. Last year DMK government announced entertainment tax exemption to the films that have Tamil titles. The move was taken by the Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to discourage the then trend to have English titles for Tamil films. The filmmakers and producers started naming their films after Tamil titles. Now, following the objection to give tax exemption to 'meaningless Tamil titles', Tamil Nadu government has announced that the concession would not be extended to the films that do not have relevant titles. This has triggered a deep concern over the 'relevance' of the titles and many producers are preparing proper explanations to justify their titles. Though the titles 'Aegan' and 'Ayan' cannot be termed as irrelevant ones, some argue that they are not original Tamil words and hence they advise the producers to find some alternate to get the tax exemption. Though Vairamuthu, veteran lyricist and a Tamil scholar, has categorically told that 'Ayan' is a Tamil word, the controversy ceases to die. One wonders how could the words taken from or inspired by other languages long back could be termed as non Tamil words.

New baddie for 'Ayan'

The fans of Actor Suriya who turned up to catch a glimpse of the hero on the sets of K.V.Anand's 'Ayan' was not able to see their favorite actor as he is busy wrapping up the schedule of 'Varnam Aaiyaram' The pretty 'Kallori' fame Tamanna is the heroine of this movie. Cameraman turned director K.V.Anand who introduced Prithiviraj in a negative character for the first time in 'Kana Kandein', became very popular in Kollywood, now imported a maiden villain from Bollywood, Akashdeep Sehgal who is also expected to be a very wanted bad man in Kollywood. His role is surely not going to be just the punching bag of the hero and will give him enough time to portray his skills. 'Ayan' the second directorial venture of the highly talented K.V.Anand who has already reached the top slot of cinematographers will hope to repeat the success of his first film as a director.
