Baabul: BR Film's gift on 50 years completion

Baabul is a special film for veteran film maker B R Chopra. And why not? After all it comes in the year when the production house has completed 50 years in the Hindi film industry. Starting with 'Ek Hi Raasta' [Ashok Kumar, Sunil Dutt and Meena Kumari] half a century back, the production house has gained from strength to strength over the years with numerous blockbusters to its credit. The production house is also known for its innumerous socials and 'Baabul' is yet another addition to the list. Directed by Ravi Chopra, son of B R Chopra, 'Baabul' stars Amitabh Bachchan in the central role as he pairs up with his 'Baghban' leading lady Hema Malini. Salman Khan, Rani Mukherjee and John Abraham are the other principal characters along with Om Puri, Aman Verma, Parmeet Sethi, Rajpal Yadav and Smita Jaykar.

Baabul is a progressive film, says Big B

'Baabul is a progressive film that talks about a father-in-law marrying off his daughter-in-law after his son dies. In India, being a widow is considered to be a curse. And for a young widow it becomes even more difficult so in that context Baabul addresses a very poignant social issue,' said Amitabh Bachchan at an event held to promote his next release 'Baabul'. When asked why the song 'Kehta Hai Baabul' sung and composed by Big B himself not a part of the audio cd, Mr Bachchan asked director Ravi Chopra to answer it. Mr Chopra on his part stated that the song had been recorded later and since the audio cd had to be released earlier it couldn't be a part of it. But we are going to release it soon,' he said. And is it part of the film? 'Oh yes',' he said. It was clear Mr Bachchan is very emotionally involved with the song for he made special arrangement of an audio cd carrying the song to be brought to the event venue. The media waited patiently for more than an hour and Big B sauntered in once again in style. He asked the sound guy present during the event to play the song on a laptop while he sat next to him, his head buried low. It goes without saying that not only has he sung 'Kehta Hai Baabul' beautifully, his composing also carries a lot of polish. It was heartening to note that the great man in spite of having achieved so much in life can get so passionately involved with a song sung and composed by himself. Truly'There can only be one Big B'The man of the millennium.

Baabul gets Tax exemption in Delhi

Ravi Chopra's 'Baabul' starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rani Mukherjee, Salman Khan, Hema Malini and John Abraham has been exempted from Entertainment Tax in Delhi. Since the film talks about a social issue of widow remarriage it may get such exemptions in other territories as well. The film hasn't been having a great run at the Box Office. In spite of a positive buzz amongst the ladies, the film hasn't really been able to make headway in the interiors of the country, the way the other family film 'Vivaah' has managed to do. It remains to be seen if this exemption of entertainment tax affects the final tally of collections.

Baabul sank because of the second half, says Salman Khan

The world knows that Salman Khan recently posed with husband of ex-flame Sangeeta Bijlani Mohammad Azharuddin. During the same visit a fan asked him as to what he had to say about both his big films of 2006, 'Jaaneman' and 'Baabul' didn't set the cash registers jingling. 'I agree 'Jaaneman' was my film and it bombed, but 'Baabul' sank because of the second half,' he quipped tongue-in-cheek. As is well known, Salman dies at the end of the first half and John Abraham takes over the proceedings (somewhat) in the second half. The critics and the audience alike loved Salman in the film. Obviously Khan is leaving no chance to take a jibe at Abraham with whom he has had a fall-out last year during stage shows abroad.

Good demand for Baabul soundtrack

A couple of days more for the soundtrack arrival of 'Baabul' and the music is already much in demand. Since the time the quintessential bhangra-pop track 'Come On Come On' arrived on the music channels, music lovers have been making enquiries about the arrival of the album on stands. The song features Amitabh Bachchan in the lead who recreates the 'Shava Shava' mood once again. Presence of Hema Malini in the celebration track brings back the nostalgia of 'Meri Makhna Meri Soniye' [Baghban] while Salman Khan's electrifying appearance makes it a winner all the way. In fact one of the leading music dealers has gone to the extent on saying, "It would be better if the promotion sticks to 'Come On Come On' for at least a week more from now so that the audience continue to be interested in the film's music. Once the album gets a good initial, more songs from the film could be aired to consolidate the album's run further. Music from 'Baabul' comes from Aadesh Srivastava who was also the man behind 'Baghban'.
