Now 'Babul' caught in distributors-multiplexes tiff

Close on the heels of 'Dhoom 2' not seeing a multiplex release in Delhi/UP due to disagreement of revenue sharing between multiplexes and distributors, 'Babul' too has joined the list of films where this argument is taking a toll on a film. As per reports, the film may not have a multiplex release in Mumbai due to the similar issue that has been plaguing the industry since 'Fanaa'. Later 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' went through similar problems too but eventually both these films did sail through at the multiplexes. While stakes are increasing with every passing month being witness to bigger and better movies hitting the marquee and practically recovering their entire investment in a matter of 2-3 weeks, it comes across as a unhealthy trend to see the same problem re-emerging for every biggie.

Don and Babul join the MP3 brigade

Post 'Dance Masti Forever,' 'Vivah' and 'Dhoom 2,' there have been numerous other albums that are arriving in an MP3 format on the music stands. Some of the most recent albums are Bollywood flicks like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy's 'Don' and Aadesh Srivastava's 'Babul' along with non-film albums like Sukhwinder Singh's 'Is Dil Se'. A boon indeed for consumers as they get to hear not just the songs from these films/albums but also dozens of other hits in a price less than 50% of an original CD. One hopes that the trend catches on and helps in eradicating music piracy completely from the Indian market.

'With Luv...Tumhaara' and 'Babul' based on similar theme?

Believe it or not but 'With Luv...Tumhaara' [which releases this Friday] and 'Babul' [which come next Friday] are based on a similar theme! Yes, that's indeed right. The world knows about 'Babul' being a story of a father-in-law [Big B] who wants his daughter-in-law [Rani Mukherji] to marry another guy [John Abraham] after his son's [Salman Khan] death. Now picture this - apparently the storyline of 'With Luv...Tumhaara' also comes quite close as it too has a father-in-law [Sharat Saxena] who wants his daughter-in-law [Preeti Jhangiani] to marry another guy [Pravin Dabas] after his son's [Nakul Vaid] death. Surprised? But then that is indeed true! Though looking at the credentials of the two films, the scale on which they have been shot is pretty much contrasting. Also, while 'Babul' is centered on Big B's character, 'With Luv...Tumhaara' has Preeti Jhangiani and Pravin Dabas holding center stage. Also, the screenplay of the two films is bound to be different though it would be interesting to catch both the films to realize the actual similarities in presentation, if any!

Would Big and John have a hat-trick with Babul?

In each of the two movies that have starred Big B and John Abraham together, the two actors have rocked. They were first seen together in Vikram Bhatt's 'Aitbaar' where Big B played a father trying to save his daughter [Bipasha Basu] from a maniac devil [John Abraham]. The movie may have bombed but the conflict between the two was brought out well. Later in 'Viruddh' they made for a simple middle class father-son pair and there were various moments in the film featuring the two that touched the heartstrings. The film was an average runner at the box office but paved the way for Ravi Chopra to cast the two together in 'Babul'. In the film the two are not related together but in John, Big B sees a perspective groom for his daughter-in-law Rani Mukherjee after the death of his son Salman Khan. Would there be some good scenes between the two as they come together for the third time? Looks quite possible after knowing Ravi Chopra for his work in his last emotional drama 'Baghban'. On a side note, if Deepa Mehta, director of WATER has her way, then Big B and John would be sharing the screen space together yet again in her magnum opus titled 'Kamagata Maru'. Though details are still awaited about the project since things need to be finalized, it indeed seems like a great combination that is touted to create some exceptional moments on screen. Stay tuned!

Dr. Achala Nagar's journey from 'Nikaah' to 'Babul'

It is not just the cast of Ravi Chopra's 'Babul' that holds similarity with his last hit 'Baghban'. Even his writer for the two films is same. Dr. Achala Nagar is the lady who suggested the idea of 'Babul' to Ravi Chopra after having worked on 'Baghban' and it took him no time to close on the subject and take in on to Amitabh Bachchan. Even Big B didn't blink en eyelid before giving a go-ahead the film was on. Dr. Nagar has been known for her work in films like 'Nikaah' when she first worked with B.R. Chopra. Later she went on to write dialogues for many more successful films like 'Nagina', 'Eeshwar' and 'Sailaab'. 'Babul' too is slowly but steadily catching up the heat as the film's theme about widow empowerment told in a manner that suits contemporary sensibilities is becoming visible to the film lovers.

Big B v/s Big B this December as 'Zamaanat' comes close to 'Babul

There are all indications that Big B starrer 'Zamaanat' may finally see the light of the day on 1st December. And it is certainly not a coincidence that 'Baabul' releases just a week later i.e. 8th December. And yes, it's absolutely fine if you choose to shrug away the information since in last 3 years, release date of 'Zamaanat' has been announced so many times that one always takes a new date with a pinch of salt. Produced and directed by veteran film maker S Ramanathan who gave Big B 'Bombay to Goa' decades back, 'Zamaanat' also stars Karisma Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Anupam Kher, Vijayashanti, Ayub Khan, Sharat Saxena, Shivaji Satam and Tinu Anand.
