Bharathiraja is fully immersed in his Hindi movie 'Cinema' which features Nana Patekar in the lead role. The movie which is about the story of a film director also has Tamil actor Arjun in the role of a tough cop. Bharathiraja has plans to dub and release the movie in Tamil also. For the first time, this acclaimed director teams up with director Agathiyan, the National award winner from Kollywood, for the movie. Agathiyan, who shot to fame with movies like Kadhal Kottai and Gokulathil Seethai, will be penning the dialogues for the Tamil version. His films Selvam and Ramakrishna went down without a trace. Agathiyan, who was briefed the storyline by Bharathiraja was greatly impressed and has reportedly begun all works. He has temporarily shelved his plans to direct a movie.
Bharathiraja's Cinema is Bommalattam
Director Bharathiraja's Hindi movie Cinema starring Nana Patekar is shaping up well. The movie which dwells on the life of a film director is being shot at a brisk pace by the director. After his last Tamil film Kangalal Kaidhu Sei, Bharathiraja chose to stay away from the limelight. However he happened to meet Nana Patekar once and narrated him the story of Cinema. An impressed Nana Patekar took no time in confirming his dates for Bharathiraja. According to Bharathraja, 'Nana is one of the few talented actors in the country, who gives his maximum in every scene. His commitment and urge to get it perfect amazed me.' Also featuring Arjun, Bharathiraja is planning to release the Tamil version of the movie. A movie on filmdom, the director has aptly titled it Bommalattam.
Bharathiraja surprises everyone
The Thing about Bharathiraja is that he is all heart and is very emotional. The man, who brought such an idiomatic change in Tamil cinema with his 16 Vayathinile, is now making Cinema, a Hindi movie that takes off on the life of a director. Is it autobiographical? Certainly not, asserts the direct. He is making the film as Bommalattam. The film's muhurat was held at Malaysia. Arjun is acting in the Tamil version, and he deems it a privilege to be part of a Bharathiraja venture. Meanwhile, Bharathiraja, who is no stranger to controversies, has made a quick trip to the war-torn Sri Lanka. He says the plight of Tamils there is pathetic and is very heart-rending. Bharathiraja has also met LTTE chief Velupillai Prabhakaran.
Bharathirajas son passes love test
This has been the season of marriages in Kollywood. Manoj K Bharathy, son of veteran director Bharathiraja, will marry with actress Nandana at Calicut on 19 November. A grand reception would be held in Chennai on 1 December at Mayor Ramanathan Chettiyar Hall. Announcing this to media persons in Chennai on Monday, Bharathiraja, in his typical style, also talked of 'triumph of love', much like in his films. 'I am fortunate to have a good son. Almost a year ago, Manoj expressed his desire to marry Nandhana. Though I was not against his wish, I wanted him to wait for a year only to gauge his romance'. It was the love test that the man, who had chronicled memorable romances on screen, had kept for his son. 'Fortunately both Manoj and Nandhana were ready to even give up their family for their love. Having churned out so many romantic entertainers, I felt it was my duty to get them united'. On his part, Manoj expressed his joy at entering wedlock. He said, 'after marriage, I would direct a movie to be produced by my father.' Nandana, who was also present on the occasion, said, she was moved by Manoj's simplicity and good humor.
Bharathiraja heaps laurels on Yuvan
Yuvan Shankar Raja received accolades from veteran director Bharathiraja. The latter listened to Yuvan's musical score in Paruthi Veeran and was highly impressed. Elated after listening to the songs which has rural flavour spread all through, Bharathiraja said, 'It has mesmerizing lyrics and touching tunes. He has kept his father's (Ilayaraja) reputation intact.' Bharathiraja and Ilayaraja have worked together in several films that were set around villages. 'A young guy who has not been to any village has come out with such scintillating earthy tunes and it is truly brilliant,' he added.
Bharathiraja completes talkie part - Bommalattam
Director Bharathiraja has completed shooting the talkie portion of his much-awaited Hindi venture Cinema. The movie is simultaneously been made in Tamil as Bommalattam. Starring Nana Patekar, Kajal Agarwal and Arjun in the lead roles, the shooting commenced a few months back. Quick to complete the shooting, Bharathiraja has commenced the re-recording for the movie. The film has musical score by Himesh Reshammiya, while re-recording by Monty Sharma. The latter had scored the background music for Amitabh starrer Black. The movie which featured Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukerji won accolades for Amitabh's portrayal, Ravi K Chandran's brilliant cinematography and Monty Sharma's background music.
