There's something about Viveik Oberoi that's putting-off and likable at the same time. At a recent press meet of 'Omkara', 'Saathiya' hero was dressed in all white with a shirt that was almost unbuttoned-till-the-belly. The shrug of shoulders and straightening of hair was a precursor to an obsessive I-Me-Am trip that followed. 'When Vishal Bhai came with the script of Omkara and told me that he wants to play Othello's Cassio, my first reaction was no,' Said Viveik. But why the thought of refusal? 'Cassio is a one dimensional character.' Hmmm'Whatever that means. Then why did he do the film and also happen to enjoy its filming? 'When I read the script, I loved it. The character of Keshu is the most flamboyant character of Omkara. He is the only character that breaks into English now and then in a Western UP milieu, is flirtatious to the core and is a 'Bahubali' who lords over people breaking into a fist fight now and then.' While Viveik was busy talking to the journos, Bipasha sauntered in his alley. The 'courteous' Oberoi willingly obliged the shutterbugs by posing with his arms on the lady's gym-toned waist. 'Call Me,' he said to Basu babe with his fingers on his ear-n-mouth respectively. To which Bipasha just turned around and mingled with her coterie of female-journalists-turned-admirers. Well, it's hard to accept but both the Lady (Ash, But Naturally) as well as Luck (Both his earlier flicks 'Home Delivery' and 'Pyaare Mohan' proved losers at the Box Office) have been eluding Viveik Oberoi. There was a time when he was the cynosure-of-envy as he walked hand in glove with Ms Rai around the world. Now, the vibes are cold and that confident smile is just-about holding on. Never mind'Next question! It seems Saif taught you how to play guitar on the 'Omkara' sets. 'I was taught how to play guitar by a very good guitar player Sarosh. Since Saif knows how to play the guitar himself he gave me a few tips. We bond really well,' he said. It was time to go. He left with a trademark swagger while a powerful whiff of perfume permeated the Air Conditioned surroundings. When I look at the promos of 'Omkara' I like the energy displayed by Oberoi boy. He has also been likable in 'Company', 'Saathiya', 'Yuva', 'Kaal' and I even liked his comic act in 'Pyaare Mohan'. Here's hoping he would concentrate on being as earnest while conducting himself in public life as he is while donning grease paints on the big screen.
Call me a flirt, but don't tag me: Ranveer Singh
Ranveer Singh has his ways to impress - he is smart, witty, charming and has a natural flair for acting. The young Bollywood actor, who is often called a flirt, says he doesn't mind this, but he admits he has a problem with tags. "I'm just generous with my compliments. I tend to see the beauty in everyone. I don't hold back in expressing my feelings and that's why I think all these traits of mine add up to me being tagged a flirt... Which is fine," Ranveer said in a group interview. "It's not that I have a problem with being tagged as a flirt! I have a problem with tags. You define and limit people with tags. Each person is complex and infinite," he said. Thus, his song "Kya karun oh ladies, main hun aadat se majboor" gels well with his ways! The actor has been seen flirting with actress Sonakshi Sinha at promotional events for "Lootera", which released Friday. The on-screen couple was not bereft of dating rumours, but giving his side of the story, Ranveer said: "I have great chemistry with her. I remember that there were rumours of us seeing each other even before 'Lootera'. We have a friendly relationship." "She is easy to work with. She has great ease and effort by the way we work. I kind of learn from her to be more easy about my work. she is a spontaneous actor and understands that films are about capturing life's moments...she's tremendously gifted." "Lootera", a period drama directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, spells an old world charm. Ranveer sincerely believes Sonakshi was the "best choice" for the part. "She fits the character. No one can pull off that old world charm and look. She can, with her look and mannerisms, completely transport you into believing that she is from that era," he said. The going was not so easy for the young actor, who admits he was in a "do or die" situation when he stepped into showbiz. Ranveer, who had no godfather to fall back upon in the industry, made a successful debut with Yash Raj Films' "Band Baaja Baaraat" in 2010. It's been a rollicking innings ever since - "Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl" and now "Lootera", as well as other plum projects in the offing for the 27-year-old. "I think I made a strong start and I knew that was important and I knew that I will not get many chances. It was do or die for me. I had to make a good first impression and I managed it," Ranveer said. He believes that his effortless portrayal of Bittoo Sharma, a street-smart boy, helped him get the visibility he wanted. "A lot of good work is coming from that perception which people formed of me from my first film. I am happy that I was able to make a mark," Ranveer added. Having said that, the actor admits delivering good work consistently is vital. "(I know) It is about delivery after this. Gone are the days of surviving on your persona," he said. For now, he is doing good - with movies like "Ram Leela" and "Gunday" in his kitty!
Another call of law for Ram Gopal
Trouble seems to have taken a liking for Ram Gopal Varma. Another legal notice has come seeking the maverick film maker after film financier Bharat Shah issued a legal notice sometime back. Mr. Jayant Pandya, the chairman of non governmental organization Bharat Jan Vigyan Jatha is the person behind the latest legal notice. He alleges that the director has cheated people by promoting blind faith claiming that 'Phoonk' cannot be seen alone by anybody in the cinema halls. Mr.Pandya has said he was willing to take on Ramu's challenge but was not able to do it as he was informed that he can only watch the film in a theatre in Mumbai. He says that Varma for getting publicity for his film was really misleading the people not only by giving blind promises but also by using a theme which showed a tantrik winning over a doctor at the end of the film.
Salman Khan Call wrong She is Dipa Karmakar, Not Deepika
There had been huge criticism when Bollywood superstar Salman Khan was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador of Indian Olympic Association's (IOA). Now, the 'Dabangg' Khan has proved why he is not the deserving person. Speaking at the trailer launch of his younger brother Sohail Khan's new film 'Freaky Ali' on Sunday, Salman Khan twice called the name of India's gymnast Dipa Karmakar wrong. When Salman forgot Dipa's name and pronounced her Deepika, a journalist corrected him by saying the name, Dipti. The notorious Khan then said, "Yes, Dipti". This incident happened just few hours after Dipa made history by becoming the first Indian woman athlete to qualify for the individual vault finals at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. She finished 8th in the qualifying round and will next compete in the finals scheduled for August 14. Salman is now facing severe criticism for misnaming the star athlete of India, who is a bright hope to win a medal for the country. Being Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) Goodwill Ambassador, Salman Khan must have shown at least a bit of enthusiasm to find out how Indian athletes are performing in Rio and what their names were.
Amisha Patel - When dear Vikram forgot to call CUT!
Amisha's performance in the film 'Ankahee' has been well appreciated. She has been inundated with calls & SMS about her much understated performance and de-glam look in Ankhahee. The heart wrenching performance in the scene where she confronts Esha behind closed doors is being hailed as the pick of the lot! Says a visibly excited Amisha, "I feel so overwhelmed by the calls I have been receiving about my de - glam look & performance in Ankahee. In fact for that much talked about scene, which was okayed in just one take, I didn't use glycerin for the shoot. Everyone was so stunned & even Vikram forgot to say cut. It was very touching. I put so much of myself into that scene that whenever I see it now, I get emotional. It was a satisfying experience and in fact all my producers called up & congratulated me!" Coming next for Amisha is much awaited Farhan Akthar's film 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.' where she essays a very light hearted character!!
