Disney India and Varun Dhawan have collaborated on the massive summer blockbuster, Marvels Captain America: Civil War's Hindi language version. For this year's most-anticipated and eagerly awaited superhero film, the Studio has got on board Varun Dhawan to lend his voice for Steve Rogers AKA Cap Am in the Hindi version of the colossal superhero action flick. In the past Varun Dhawan was main lead in Disney India's homegrown dance franchise ABCD 2 - one of the most successful films of 2015. The film was a sequel of 2013's hit film ABCD: Any Body Can Dance. Thus, making them a winning team. When quizzed the star on the association with Captain America: Civil War, he said, "When Disney India got in touch with me to voice Captain America it tickled a creative box in my head. I have immense respect for voice over artists as its very difficult job to do. Captain America is a matured and a balanced leader. This is something that I am not. So that made it all the more challenging for me. Captain America: Civil War is bigger better and the action is huge. It's a film for kids and adults and the actual moral of the film is something I loved and believed in so I was very happy to voice it. I was blown away by the trailer and that got me very interested to take it up as a challenge. I have seen all the Avenger movies till now and this one definitely takes the Avengers series to a different level. I'm very happy to be part of the Marvel Universe. The film has an amazing connect with kids so that was one of the main reasons for me to do it." "Captain America: Civil War is the year's most-anticipated and eagerly awaited superhero film. Hindi audience for Marvel's movies has been growing rapidly over the years. During ABCD 2, we have seen what a huge draw Varun has with younger audience and kids; this made him our obvious and first choice for voicing Cap Am in the latest Marvel tentpole. Varun has the x-factor and versatility as an actor and we are delighted that he is equally excited about the movie! We believe his charisma and his huge fan following is just what we need to take Captain America: Civil War to a wider Hindi audience. This movie brings the Captain America team up against Tony Stark and his team, there is a lot of fun and action to watch out for! " said Amrita Pandey, Vice President - Studios, Disney India. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps-one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. John Abraham in talks to play boxing legend Captain Hawa Singh
A biopic on the legendary Indian boxer, Captain Hawa Singh, who had mentored Olympic champ Vijender Singh, is in the works, and as per TOI, John Abraham is likely to play him on screen. Hawa Singh’s is the latest name to emerge amid a spate of biopics to hit Indian cinema halls, and others which are in the works. After enrolling in the Indian army at the age of 19 in 1956, Hawa Singh had gone on to dominate the national circuit, winning eleven consecutive heavyweight championships from 1961 to 1972 – a record that stands to this day. He also won gold medals for India at the Asian games in Bangkok in 1972. Producer Sam Fernandez, who had previously worked with Vidhu Vinod Chopra and 20th Century Fox confirmed the news about the biopic saying, “Yes, I am making a biopic on Captain Hawa Singh. This is not the story of an underdog, but a champ, who was never defeated in the ring but lost to politics.” It was politics that had obstructed the champ’s road to the Olympics, and his dream of fighting Mohammad Ali remained just that, a dream. Despite these setbacks, Hawa Singh never turned his back on the sport and founded the Bhiwan iBoxing Club after retirement, which has produced Olympians like Jitender Kumar, Akhil Kumar, and bronze-medalist Vijender Singh. In another sad turn of events, Hawa did not live to see his student’s Olympic glory. The makers plan to approach Vijender if the script demands it. Given that Hawa Singh was a behemoth of a man at 6’1” tall and built of pure muscle, John seems the best choice to play him. Speaking about portraying the boxer on screen, John said, “We are both six-feet-one and weigh 94 kgs. His son, Sanjay Singh, daughter-in-law and two grandkids, came to see me. I've not signed it yet but the family, Sam, and I are all very excited about this project.”
Captain's effort
With just three weeks to go for the Assembly election in the State, actor and president of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam Vijayakanth, is keen on getting his Perarasu released before the elections. Though the movie has been completed long back, it is still lying in the cans due to financial constraints faced by its producer Khaja Mohideen. For Vijayakanth, the movie is very crucial for it has his political message. Hence efforts are on from Vijayakanth's camp to have the movie released by the last week of April, which looks like a daunting task. Featuring Vijayakanth in a dual role, the movie is directed by a debutant Jeppi A Y.
Captain's hour of reckoning
The coming days will decide the fate of actor and president of newly floated political party DMDK. With just a week away for the State to go to polls, the actor-turned-politician is busy campaigning by making whirlwind tour all over the State. The heat and the dust has already taken toll on the actor's throat. After addressing a spate of meeting in the last two months, the actor suffered sore throat and had to cancel a few public meetings in the midway. Just the lone star campaigner in his party (unlike his opponents), Vijayakanth plans to intensify his campaign in the coming days. Pitted against a strong candidate in Vridhachalam where he is contesting, Vijayakanth has decided to spend a couple of days there to seek votes for himself. Reiterating that he has succeeded in creating a impact with his campaign, Vijayakanth is hopeful of securing some seats in his maiden attempt at the elections.
Captain proves a point
Vijayakanth's newly floated Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has emerged the key player in deciding the poll outcome in Tamilnadu securing a good percentage of votes polled. Besides, Captain himself has won the Vridachalam Assembly seat considered to be the bastion of PMK. A cheerful Vijayakanth, on the good showing of his party said, 'our party floated only a few months ago has managed to leave an impression. It is a pleasant news for me.' Asked about his playing spoilsport for the runner-up in over 120 constituencies, Vijayakanth said, 'people's support has enthused me. Coming days would be difficult. But we would continue our good run. Thanking the voters in the State, his party candidates and party cadre for the good show, he said, he would take up issues concerning public life in the Assembly. In Chennai alone, in over half-a-dozen constituencies, DMDK contestants bagged votes which spoiled the prospects of either the DMK or AIADMK candidates. Captain entry to the Assembly marks a new beginning for an actor away from the Dravidian politics.
Captain ready for second innings
It was time for the Nadigar Sangam to go into a huddle on Sunday. Lead by Vijayakanth, the members of the South India Film artistes Association (SIFAA) convened their annual general body meeting on Sunday to discuss on the forthcoming elections to be held on 30 July. The biggest question on everyone's lips in Sunday's meeting was whether Vijayakanth would seek a reelection for the top job in the association. The actor, who has been just elected as an MLA to the State Assembly, made it clear in the meeting Sunday that he might go in for a re-run if put up as a candidate after common consensus. It looks likely that the existing team of office-bearers including president Vijayakanth and general secretary Sarath Kumar would be re-elected. Various resolutions including one congratulating DMK chief M Karunanidhi for becoming the Chief Minister for the fifth time was passed. The meeting also acknowledged Jayalalithaa on her becoming the leader of the Opposition, Vijayakanth for getting elected from Vridhachalam Assembly constituency and S Ve Shekher from Mylapore. The meeting also passed a resolution thanking the DMK government for taking a decision to instal thespian Sivaji Ganesan's statue at the Marina. Among those who took part in the meeting were Nepolean, Radharavi, Manorama, Alex, Thyagu, Sandhya, Murali, Vijayakumar Senthil, Mansoorali Khan.
