Censors become liberal with LOINS OF PUNJAB PRESENTS

Thankfully audience has been spared the agony of hearing beep sound for every profanity in the dialogues of LOINS OF PUNJAB PRESENTS. An English language crossover film directed by Manish Tiwary, LOINS OF PUNJAB PRESENTS is a hilarious 90 minutes tale that refuses to compromise at any ends. One of this being the language at display, especially that of a gay wannabe-Bhangra-rockstar couple. The couple is a riot as the two men don't take anything lying down and whatever comes in their way is greeted by profanities and four letter words. This happens not once, not twice but more than half a dozen instances but to a viewer's pleasant surprise, the audio is in full glory at all times with no beeps to suppress the content. Of course, the offensive language at places may not be everyone's idea but at least Censors have given an option for audience to pick and choose! Good to see a liberal face of Censors here!

Censor chief deep concern

The Bangalore Regional Censor Board chief Mr. Chandrasekhar says it is high time the Kannada film producers correct from the routine and violent films. Out of the 127 films the censor has passed in 2007 nearly 24 percent of Kannada films are violent ones to be precise mindless violence films he says giving the example of 4 percent of Tamil and 2.4 percent of Telugu violent films in that period. Till October 14 around 145 Kannada films have been given censor chit and 30 to 40 going to add up in this year. The major dearth is the quality and novelty in Kannada films feels Chandrasekhar. The censor chief was speaking at the inauguration of 'Samudayadatta Cinema' by Telugu actor and director Madhala Ranga Rao on Sunday evening the concept evolved by Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa for his new film 'Ekalavya' Kannada film. The censor is facing the torture of seeing mindless action films and route films. Such films are said to be minimum guarantee films and would assure returns in the rerun. It is a wrong notion says Chandrasekhar. According to one study the Kannada films have lost the major middle class family audience. Cinema medium today is the third popular medium after television and internet. But why no care is taken to make films with new thoughts that would give a new fillip to society. The Hindi cinema has found out the cross over cinemas and the emergence of multiplexes that is another route for film makers opined Chandrasekhar. Instead of patronizing the violent films such new attempts should be made in Kannada is the advice censor chief passed to Kannada film makers.

Censor Board Denies Rating for Bobby Simha's New Film

As we had reported on Friday, actor Bobby Simha's political thriller 'Ko 2' will be hitting the screens on May 13 and this will be his first release after his marriage to actress Reshmi Menon last week. Now another film with Bobby Simha in the lead role which is ready for release has faced an obstacle from the Censor board. Recently the film titled as 'Metro' directed by debutant Ananda Krishnan was sent for Censor Rating. The panel members who watched the film have refused to give any rating for the film as the felt the film was unfit to pass Censor certification and for public viewing due to its excessive and explicit violent content. 'Metro' is a film about the chain snatching networks operating in the underground of the city. It allegedly involves many explicit violent scenes. The Censor board does not even consider giving an U/A or A rating for the film despite the makers were ready to make changes to the content based on the suggestions of the Censor board. Now the 'Metro' team has decided to send the film to the Censor Board Revising Committee in Mumbai and the fate of the film will be decided only after the Committee watches the film and spells out its stand. No film can be released in India without a Censor Rating.

Censor Talk: It's clean "U" Brahmotsavam

Living up to his expectations, director Srikanth Addala makes sure that he will deliver yet another Clean film for family audiences. Like we said other day, today (Monday) Brahmotsavam has went through Censor screening and received a Clean U certificate from the Board without any cuts. For the kind of family scenes and sentimental bondings shown by director in the movie, Censor Board members got stunned, says a source. That sets everything in motion, as Brahmotsavam is now getting released on 20th May without any second thoughts. With 3 days in reserve, there is no question of even missing out USA premieres.
