'Chalk N Duster' will make you clap for your teachers: Juhi

Actress Juhi Chawla says that her upcoming film "Chalk N Duster" will deeply touch viewers and make them want to clap for their teachers and hug them. "'Chalk N Duster' is something that touches you, which makes you both cry and laugh. This is a story that'll touch you deeply, make you stand up and clap for your teachers or go and give them a hug," Juhi told. The shooting of the film had begun in April and Juhi said that now they are at its end and expect to release in a couple of months. The film has been termed an educational film about teachers but Juhi says: "It is about teachers and it involves children, but it's not just about teachers. It's about people, it's about ethics and the effect teachers have on their students. It's a lovely script." Juhi considers the film to be on similar lines of other films based on children's education and difficulties like "Taare Zameen Par" and "Stanley Ka Dabba". "It's from a similar genre. 'Taare Zameen Par' brought you something really new but at the same time, something that you would perhaps be aware of it and heard of, but it brought to the fore the experience of what it is to be dyslexic or to have a dyslexic child." The film is directed by Jayant Gilatar and has been produced by Amin Surani. It also stars Shabana Azmi, Jackie Shroff, Divya Dutta, Samir Soni, and Girish Karnad, among others.

Enjoyed playing the negative role in 'Chalk N Duster': Divya

"Badlapur" actress Divya Dutta was surprised when she was offered an out-and-out negative role in "Chalk N Duster", which also stars Juhi Chawla and Shabana Azmi but said she eventually started enjoying it. "I'm playing the principal in the film. I'm working with two of my extremely favourite stars, Shabanaji and Juhi. They would make fun of me that you're very nasty in the film. But when a scene is done by two actors, we keep getting tremendous inspiration which is really nice. "I felt a bit different that I was offered a negative role which was a starkly negative role. But when I got completely immersed into the scene, I really enjoyed and discovered the dark side in me," Divya said at an event on 'Nation Building' for students at Ryan Global School here. Divya has been involved in numerous supporting and character roles such as "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" and "Ragini MMS 2" throughout her career but she feels that character artists deserve special mention. "Their importance is the most as they play both main leads as well as characters. But they are not restricted to anything in particular and likewise I don't like being bound by anything." She is excited about her main lead roles in her upcoming projects. "All the three films that are coming up, you'll see me in the main lead roles. In one of them, you'll see me in the main lead while in one I'm the main negative while in one you'll see me in comic role again in the main category. It doesn't matter to me if it's main or not but for the role to be a brilliant one is very important for me." "Chalk N Duster", directed by Jayant Gilatar, also stars Jackie Shroff, Zarina Wahab, Samir Soni among others.

Juhi's enthusiasm behind Shabana doing 'Chalk N Duster'

Actress Shabana Azmi says she was skeptical about doing the educational drama "Chalk N Duster", but Juhi Chawla's enthusiasm for the film prompted her to give her nod. "When I read the script, I liked it. But I felt that I didn't know the people involved -- the director and the producer. So I was hesitant. But then they took my brother Baba Azmi as the cameraman and the way he photographs me always makes me feel very much at peace. So I thought this is one positive sign," Shabana said during the film's promotion. "But actually the deciding factor was Juhi Chawla ji, because she liked the story very much and she visited my house and arranged for a narration. I saw her enthusiasm for the film, which I felt was very good for the film," Shabana said. She also said it was the first time she met Juhi. Juhi had said in an interview that it was exciting to work with Shabana and that she couldn't imagine anyone else in Shabana's character. Shabana, who plays a Maharashtrian teacher in the film, said she modelled her character on her sister-in-law Sulbha Arya in terms of attire, jewellery and hairstyle. She said it was a pleasant atmosphere on the sets because a lot of scenes were shot with actual teachers and in real schools. Shabana also praised the other actors in the film. "I am friends with Zarina (Wahab). Divya (Dutta) had played my daughter in 'Umrao Jaan', and has fulfilled her role excellently. Richa Chadda has done a special appearance in the film and has done a brilliant job and I'm sure her work will be appreciated. I'm also delighted to play Girish Karnad's wife again after so many years." "Rishi Kapoor has also done a cameo and he is such a jovial kind of a person and I've always had a good relationship with him. He's worked with grace and dedication and I'm really grateful, he's done us a great favour," Shabana said. "Chalk N Duster", directed by Jayant Gilatar, will release on January 15.
