How Ganesh Hegde lost chance to choreograph 'It's Rocking'

Kareena Kapoor's hit track, "It's Rocking Yaara Kabhi Ishq To Karo", from the forthcoming "Kya Love Story Hai" (out on April 20), is making news for all the right and wrong reasons. Right because it is already No.1 on the world charts and is among the most requested songs on radio these days, wrong because Ayesha Takia was rumouredly upset about the introduction of the track and the attention going to Kareena! Now another controversy on this song has come to the foreground. Before choreographer Bosco was roped in for "It's Rocking Yaara Kabhi Ishq To Karo", it seems director Lovely Singh had approached Ganesh Hegde (who choreographed "Main Hoon Don" last year). According to Singh, the latter had to be replaced because he gave him a lot of starry airs. Remarks Lovely, "He wanted to change the whole song and that's not even a choreographer's job! I'm happy with my decision to replace him because the final output by the new choreographer is making waves and has been very well received!" Hegde, on his part, said, "When I first heard the song I couldn't visualise anything spectacular so I asked Lovely to make some changes to the song. Kareena is a dear friend so I wanted to give her the best. Anyway, it's really not my loss. I do select work in a year and prefer maintaining that."

Yet another chance to catch DON on 3rd June

Ok, so agreed that 'Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai', but still there is no harm in trying, right? So here is your chance to aim at catching DON yet again as he invades your living room on 3rd June. The Shahrukh Khan starrer makes it's premier on the small screen on Sunday, 3rd June, on Star Plus and is expected to take over the TRPs while it is being aired. When released last year, this Farhan Akhtar film opened to scathing reviews but turned out to be a big hit eventually. Brushing aside competition in the form of Salman Khan-Akshay Kumar starrer JAAN-E-MANN and surpassing it by a comfortable margin, the film went on to gain from strength to strength and ended with it's Indian box office run of over 50 crores. Now as it comes on television, it is expected to create history yet again with great advertisement revenues looking at record breaking numbers.

Is Vivaah Sooraj Barjatyas Last Chance?

It's disheartening to note that the man who has given two of the biggest hits of Hindi Cinema is awaiting the release of his next film with very little buzz doing the rounds. Sooraj Barjatya is an institution whom even Karan Johar considered as his guru. But the maker of 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' and 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun' is almost a non-entity as 'Vivaah' is up for release. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao, this one ought to have been a biggie but with its music being a total disappointment, people are more keen on 'Apna Sapna Money Money' (Releasing the same day) than 'Vivaah'. Sooraj's last film 'Main Prem Deewani' was a loser while the one before 'Hum Saath Saath Hain' couldn't repeat the magic of his earlier two blockbusters either. Some people say that his style of storytelling is obsolete and he needs to reinvent himself if he wants to remain in the hunt of the big league. What goes against him is the fact that his hero Shahid Kapoor, in spite of being a fine actor and a terrific dancer, can not be bracketed with Salman, Hrithik or Abhishek (His earlier heroes). Moreover Shahid-Amrita pairing has given several duds including 'Wah Life Ho To Aisi' and 'Shikhar'. It seems an uphill task for Sooraj Barjatya's fledgling fortunes with 'Vivaah'. The story of engagement to marriage has to be really out of the box to click in an era of 'Rang De Basanti', 'Dhoom' and 'Munnabhai' where innovative storytelling or scintillating action is the order of the day.

JAB WE MET - Choreography by chance!

Director Imtiaz Ali was keen to have ace choreographer Saroj Khan for the 'Yeh Ishq' track from 'Jab We Met', shot with 180 Himachali dancers in Manali and the Rohtang Pass. However, Saroj Khan's dates were becoming difficult to secure and the search for an alternative began. Coincidentally, the crew discovered that she was also shooting in Manali at the time of 'Yeh Ishq' but for another film. Imtiaz met her immediately and requested her to choreograph 'Yeh Ishq', to which she finally agreed. Kareena, who has been a student of Saroj Khan, was rather nervous about the fact that the hard taskmaster (who doesn't take kindly to actors' mistakes while dancing) would be on the sets for four whole days to choreograph the song. But once the shoot started, it proceeded smoothly, and both Kareena and Saroj Khan immensely enjoyed their experience of working together once again! The results are evident in the visuals of the 'Yeh Ishq' track!

A chance to learn the technique of filmmaking

Given the power of the influence of cinema, it is quite natural that from being just a lover of cinema, a person with enough confidence in his creativity can get attracted towards the craft of film making and try to do bring out the visuals floating in his inner self by doing a short film, a music video or a documentary. The same call of creativity can be experienced by persons who feels as if there is an actor hiding inside them and which is trying to get out desperately an also for persons who like to try out their hands in the technical side of film making like editing . Realizing that there can be a big number of such people who are in different professions and diverse fields, Nizal and the Tamilnadu Documentary and Short Film Creators Association have decided to go for a film making workshop in Chennai for the people who aspire to learn the craft of film making, acting, editing, animation and other technical fields relating to film making. The veteran Director and Cinematographer Balu Mahendra will inaugurate the workshop which will be conducted between May 25 and May 31. Some prominent directors, technicians and actors of Kollywood will head the various classes during the workshop. The participants will also be given the required guidance and assistance to make a short film during the last day of the creative workshop. For the government employees, doctors, software professionals, lawyers, Bank workers among other professionals who might have once thought of being a film maker and later on drifted to their respective professions due to a reason or the other and don't have the time to spare now, this is a great opportunity to blow off the dust of their long held celluloid dreams.
