Chandramukhi is already part of the Tamil film legend. Now it is set to make more history. The movie will kickoff the festival at the IIFA Awards in Dubai to be held from June 15 to 17. This will be the first time that a south Indian film opens the festival in the seven years of the IIFA Awards, which has been a platform for promoting Hindi cinema globally. Ramesh Sippy, Madhavan, producer of Chandramukhi Ram Kumar, and director of the film P Vasu talked to the media at a meet in Chennai yesterday. Madhavan was thrilled to be part of the festival, as it would be a good opportunity for more recognition to the best technicians in this part of the world. Most of the films screened will be accompanied by an interaction of the audience with the cast or crew of the films. A total of 14 south Indian films would be screened this year ' seven Tamil, four Malayalam and three Telugu films. Besides Madhavan, other south Indian film stars who will be attending the event in Dubai include Vikram, Meera Jasmine and Mohanlal.
Chandramukhi creates new record
Rajinikanth starrer Chandramukhi has created a new record in the history of Tamil cinema. After Thyagaraja Bhagavathar's Haridas, Chandramukhi has won the unique distinction of running continuously in a theatre for 600 days. The film which was released in Shanthi Theatres in Chennai on 14 April, 2005, is still running in the cinema hall. Says Venugopalan, the director of Shanthi Theatres, 'We never expected the movie to see such a fabulous run. We are screening the noon show in Shanthi theatre now. It's amazing that over 50 per cent of the seats are filled up even today. All the artistes who were part of the movie had been to the theatre to watch the film in the last few months. Plans are on to hold a grand function at Nehru Stadium in Chennai to celebrate this rare feat by Chandramukhi.' A remake of the critically acclaimed Malayalam movie Manichitrathazhu, the movie broke several box office records and is currently one of the highest grossing movies ever, in the Indian film industry. It stars Rajinikanth, Prabhu, Jyothika, Nayantara, Vineeth and Malavika. It was produced by actor Prabhu under his home banner, Sivaji Productions, named after his father, Sivaji Ganesan. The movie was directed by P Vasu. Music was composed by Vidyasagar.
Chandramukhi marching towards glory
Rajinikanth's Chandramukhi has successfully completed a 700 day run on Friday. The movie is still running at Shanthi Theatre in Chennai. The movie is all set to emulate the record set by Thyagaraja Bhagavathar's Haridoss, which ran continuously for over 800 days in a theatre in Chennai. The whole cast of Chandramukhi including Superstar Rajinikanth, Jyothika, Nayantara, Prabhu and Nasser has given wonderful performances in the thriller movie. This movie which also saw a spectacular run abroad including Egypt and Japan, is one of the highest grossers in the Tamil film industry. With just a month left for Rajinikanth's Sivaji to hit the screens, the success of Chandramukhi has created a lot of expectations and hype on Sivaji. A mega function is planned to celebrate the big success of Chandramukhi later this year.
Chandramukhi 2 on cards with Lawrence and Vadivelu
According to sources, veteran filmmaker P. Vasu is planning to remake his latest Kannada outing Shivalinga in Tamil as Chandramukhi 2 and has already initiated talks with Raghava Lawrence and Vadivelu to be a part of the lead cast. The remake starred Vedika and Shivarajkumar in the lead roles. Sources say P. Vasu is currently on the lookout for a female lead to cast opposite Lawrence. An official announcement is likely to be made once the cast and crew are finalized.
Rajnikanth Chandramukhi Part-II is Vettaiyan?
Super Star Rajinikanth is very likely to do a sequel to the biggest Tamil grosser ever, his own ‘Chandramukhi’ if the buzz is right. ‘Chandramukhi’ was the Tamil remake of the Kannada hit ‘Aaptha Mitra’ directed by P. Vasu. Recently director Vasu released the sequel to ‘Aaptha Mithra’ as ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ starring the same Vishnuvaradhan and is setting the box office on fire. Released last Friday, ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ is taking Karnataka by storm and is well on its way to become the biggest ever hit in Kannada film history. According to reliable sources in Bangalore, Rajinikanth will be in Bangalore and watching the film along with the audience in one of the theatres sometime in the third week of ‘Aptha Rakshaka’. Rajini is said to have liked the mystic elements in the film talking about Yogis living in the Himalayas which were picked from the book ‘Himalaya Mahatmara Sannidhiyalli’. Director P Vasu had indicated before that he will definitely make ‘Aptha Rakshaka’ in Tamil and his only choice will be the super star. There is even news saying the film will be called ‘Vettaiyan’ in Tamil.
Celebrating the success of Chandramukhi
Sivaji Production has planned a mega function on 25 June in Chennai to celebrate the success of Chandramukhi. The Rajnikanth-starrer, Chandramukhi was directed by P Vasu and produced by Sivaji Productions. Released a couple of years ago, the movie has witnessed a fantastic running and has completed an 800-day run at Shanthi theatre in Chennai. To celebrate the success, producer Ram Kumar has organized a mega function in Chennai on 25 June in which Chief Minister Karunanidhi is expected to take part. Ram Kumar along with actor Prabhu and P Vasu called on Chief Minister in Chennai on Sunday and invited him for the mega event. Chandramukhi starring Nayantara, Jyothika, Prabhu and Vadivelu in prominent roles was inspired by P Vasu's Kannada film Aapthamithra.
