Bhansali Seeks Quashing of Court Case

Eminent director Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Friday approached the Bombay High Court seeking to quash the case filed against him pertaining to the violations of the provisions of the Essential Commodities act during the filming of his magnum opus 'Black'. In March 2006, an antique dealer Farida Hoosenally approached the Borivali Metropolitan Magistrate Court seeking an FIR lodged against the director and his production house, Applause Bhansali Films for the destruction of antique items resulting in loss of several crores. Farida had stated that Bhansali has used two Liquefied Petroleum Gas Cylinders of 14 kilograms for domestic purpose. However for commercial purpose a 19 kg cylinder has to be used as per the Essential Commodities Act and Liquefied Petroleum Order. Also during the filming the set had caught allegedly destroying antiques worth several crores in February, 2004. The chargesheet has been filed but the case is still pending before the court. Bhansali approached the court seeking quashing of the chargesheet and the case before the magistrate court. The matter will be heard on January 16th. Currently Bhansali is working on his next film 'Saawariya' starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. He is desperately hoping to get reprieve from this case.

Sanjay Bhansali Gets Bail

Sanjay Leela Bhansali may be regaling himself with all the dance-show at the 'Jhalak Dikhlaja' but his personal life also earned a much-need-reprieve. A Sessions Court in Mumbai granted him an anticipatory bail for the complaint filed by antic collector Farida Hoosenally claiming that she lost furniture worth Rs 1.6 crore in the fire at the sets of Bhansali's film 'Black' in February 2004. It is being alleged that Bhansali had been using cooking gas to generate fire for a scene. This is a criminal offence under the Essential Commodities Act as cooking gas, cylinders, supplied at a subsidized rate, can't be used for commercial purposes. Although Sanjay may have gone back home a free man, but he will have to report to the police station every Sunday and Monday until a chargesheet is filed. It seems the cops are now telling SLB'.Jhalak Dikhlaja'.
