Chennai Express' trailer out, promises loads of fun

High on entertainment quotient, the trailer of "Chennai Express", which came out Thursday, is a mix of action, humour and romance and the film promises to entertain movie buffs thoroughly when it hits the screens Aug 8. An expert in making rib-tickling comedies, Rohit Shetty, who has directed fun films like "Golmaal" and "Singham", has set the story in a south Indian backdrop highlighting their culture, with lead actress Deepika Padukone taking the cake with that typical accent. The actress, who pairs with Shah Rukh Khan for the second time after her 2007 debut movie "Om Shanti Om", also looks beautiful as a South Indian girl. Even SRK's character adds an element of comedy in it and has a lot of action, including flying cars. If in "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" Shah Rukh had to play a character much younger to his age, in this film his character is a 40-year-old guy. In the trailer, the background score sounds powerful and impressive. The film has been produced by Red Chillies.

'Chennai Express' family entertainer, it's for masses: SRK

His health doesn't permit him to take too much stress, but despite that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is aggressively promoting his forthcoming film “Chennai Express” and says that the theme of the movie is such that the whole family can sit together and enjoy it. Releasing Aug 9, director Rohit Shetty's “Chennai Express” brings together SRK and Deepika Padukone together on the big screen once again after the hit movie “Om Shanti Om“. SRK has spent over two decades in filmdom and has been part of hits like "Deewana", "Darr", "Baazigar" and "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" and affirms that his films are meant for the masses. "My films are for the masses, similarly 'Chennai Express' is for the masses and needed to be promoted extensively," SRk said Sunday while promoting his film here. Shetty has been actively making films for the past 10 years and came out with hit "Golmaal" series, but "Chennai Express" is Shah Rukh's first film with the successful director. He lauds Shetty's films for having variety. "Rohit's films have a variety... comedy, drama, romance and action... everything. 'Chennai Express' is a comedy film with a love story, but it's definitely not like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' or 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. It's a family entertainer. There's a little action too. It's something that whole family can sit down and watch together," he said. Shah Rukh underwent shoulder surgery in May this year. “I've always promoted my films extensively... this time it's less because I am not well,” said Shah Rukh, who looked stunning in a black suit. “I have recently got a surgery done. But I strongly feel that every film requires right marketing and promotions,” he added. After promoting the film off-shore, the 47-year-old reached here Sunday along with Shetty and Deepika. Different films need different marketing strategies. “It (marketing) depends on the films that what kind of promotions it needs. We didn't promote 'My Name Is Khan' that much. Yashji (Yash Chopra) expired before the release of 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', but we promoted 'Ra One' extensively worldwide,” he added. Yash Chopra died Oct 21 last year and his last directorial venture "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" released on Nov 13.

'Chennai Express' earns Rs. 200.56 crore

The domestic box office collection of Rs.200.56 crore is besides collections at centres abroad where the film has been exhibited. “This also shows the potential of Indian theatrical market - with right film, marketing and distribution there is no limit,” Gaurav Verma, Director - India Theatrical Distribution, Studios, Disney UTV, said in a statement.

The volume of orders broke all previous records for "largest number of orders for any single title" on the movie-on-demand platform. "Shah Rukh Khan's unique ability to connect with fans across all age groups and in all parts of the country worked as a huge catalyst in redefining the dynamics of movie viewing on movie-on-demand, and in achieving this breakthrough viewership," Salil Kapoor, chief operational officer, DishTV, said in a statement. SRK unveils music of 'Chennai Express'

The music launch of Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express" was indeed a memorable one. Going with the theme of the film, mediapersons were given 'mund' and 'lungi', the traditional attire of South Indians. "It was quite an experience wearing a 'lungi' and it was helpful because we were shooting in a hot place," Shah Rukh told reporters. The music of the film is given by Vishal and Shekar. Deepika Padukone, who worked with with Shah Rukh after her debut film "Om Shanti Om", says he is still very protective about her. She said: "He is still the same. He is still very protective and caring about me." The music launch also had performances by dancers and Shah Rukh, who has injured his shoulder, grooved with them. Directed by Rohit Shetty, "Chennai Express", is slated for an Aug 8 release.
