More news →36 China Town breaks the jinx for Shahid-Kareena
This was bound to happen sooner than later! Thankfully in case of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, this has happened sooner and just at the right time. Good opening of '36 China Town' and continued patronage for the rest of the week has ensured that the film should turn out to be a reasonable success at the least. And none but Shahid and Kareena would be most pleased about that since there last film together, 'Fida', didn't exactly set the box office on fire. One of the major reasons for the film's downfall was said to be the film's plot itself that projected Kareena as a vamp who didn't really care about the character played by Shahid. The fans naturally felt cheated due to the absence of a romantic onscreen liaison between the two and soon the word spread around the town that Shahid and Kareena were not the typical 'hero' and 'heroine' in the film. Now with '36 China Town', the duo got ample opportunity to play a 'conventional' hero and heroine in the film. So audience had their hands [and eyes full] when they saw the duo singing and dancing to peppy numbers, getting into sweet'n'little arguments, cracking jokes and genuinely enjoying themselves in the comic popcorn thriller! With the movie's success, the most relieved man should be Boney Kapoor who may now be looking at releasing his long delayed 'Milenge Milenge' directed by Satish Kaushik. The film has been ready for quite some time but owing to the failure of 'Fida', Boney Kapoor went slow on 'Milenge Milenge' and instead concentrated on 'No Entry'. With 2005's biggest success behind him and '36 China Town' looking good, 'Milenge Milenge' is another film that should be yet another good reason for Shahid-Kareena fans to catch the flick. Meanwhile one film starring the real life couple is fast gearing up for the release. In about a month's time from now comes Priyadarshan directed 'Chup Chup Ke' that is being promoted as a romantic comedy. Releasing on June 9, the film is also noticeable for the fact that Kareena plays a mute girl in the film while a situation provokes Shahid to act as a mute and a deaf guy. Supposed to be filmed in true Priyadarshan style, the film has now become further hot due to '36 China Town' clicking at the box office. Additional bonus comes in the form of Himesh Reshammiya's music that is eagerly awaited at the stands!

Exclusive Promo Review - 36 China Town
Baadshahs of suspense are back...and in style! Director duo Abbas Mustan, who chose to take a different route with 'Tarzan - The Wonder Car [Comedy]' and 'Aitraaz [Drama]' after a string of 'thrilling' hits, are back with what they are best at - THRILLS, SUSPENSE AND lots of STYLE. 36 China Town, a Subhash Ghai production, is their next release and the first promo has been truly cutting edge, just like the films from the director duo. This minute long promo begins with the introduction of each of the leading characters of the film. And just when you may wonder how exactly is that done, here is the scoop! Each of them is shown as a suspect while they pose in front of a camera in a manner that depicts them being photographed by police. They give three facial poses - front, left and right - while holding a slate stating their names: Shahid Kapoor is Raj, Kareena Kapoor is Priya, debutant Upen Patel is Rocky, Paresh Rawal is Natwar, Payal Rohatgi is Gracy, Tanaz Currim is Ruby and Johnny Lever is KK. Next immediate shot is that of a huge mansion that looks haunting to say the least in the dead of the night with lightening all around. And everyone introduced so far is guilty! And above all there is Akshaye Khanna, the cop, who is investigating a murder case. Place of murder? The same old mansion - 36 China Town, GOA! What follows next is a flurry of shots interspersed with each other that creates an intriguing'n'gripping atmosphere all around. The background music is racy and set in a western mode. As the lead pair of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are shown running, there is an interesting shot of money and jewellery being taken out from a safe in a hurry by an unknown hand. Suspense is further built up as a dead body is dragged away through a passage while a limousine covers the screen entirely from left to right, hence adding on to the rich look of the film. There is also a glimpse of a dance happening in a club while a beefy'n'bare chested Upen Patel stands in style! All this while, a clock is shown ticking at a vigorous pace complimenting the fast mood of the promo quite well. With numerous shots arriving on the screen on a split second basis, Akshaye Khanna's entry creates quite an impact as Vivek Shauque follows him around. Once Akshaye leaves the scene, the bewildered expression that comes on the faces of Shahid and Kareena tries to tell a lot and creates curiosity about the plot! As Kareena Kapoor utters the film's title '36 China Town' in a husky voice, the promo comes to an end, but not before forcing you to check it out once again when it comes up. A murder mystery revolving around multiple characters, '36 China Town' releases in the month of May and promises an ideal popcorn entertainer in the offering!
