In praise of Chinna Thalapathy

The audio launch of Bharath's Pazhani established his title as 'Chinna Thalapathy'. Almost all speakers mentioned the young hero as 'Chinna Thalapathy'. Bharath was visibly happy when Director S.A. Chandrasekar, father of Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay too referred him with the title. The function was held in Santham Cinemas in Chennai today (December 15). Two of the six songs screened before the event. Sathyaraj released the first copy of the CD, which was jointly received by Jeva, Dhanush, S.J. Surya, Sibi, and Arun Vijay. Srkanth Deva has scored the music for the movie. Khusboo's speech was keenly anticipated, as this was her first function after the controversy over Vallamai Tharayo launch function. But the actress did not touch the issue. She confined herself to the film in which she plays the sister of Bharath. She was quite emotional when she talked about her role. "I don't have a brother. When I see Bharath, I feel like seeing my brother". Dhanush requested director Perarasu in a lighter vein to give chance to others too to write lyrics in his films. All the songs are penned by the director himself. Dhanush expressed his willingness to act with Sathyaraj. He wants to do so even as a villain, he said. Sathyaraj in his speech said that Dhanush would outsmart him if he decided to act with him. AVM Saravanan was among the celebrities, who graced the occasion. Pazhani, Bharath's first ever full fledged action movie, will be released on Pongal.

Chinni's new gambit

Popular comedian Chinni Jayanth is back in the hunt. A once-busy comedian, who started his sojourn in Kollywood with Kai Kodukkum Kai, Chinni Jayanth has come a long way with his mimicry skills. Now the comedian is busy preparing himself to establish as a hero in Kollywood. Chinni Jayanth will produce, direct besides acting in the lead role in a movie titled Kanal Neer. The movie also features Nizhalgal Ravi in an important role. According to Chinni Jayanth, 'Nagesh shot to fame the lovable hero playing the hero in Neer Kumizhi. My Kanal Neer is a similar attempt. It would dwell on human emotions and the value of relationships.' Chini seems to have shed his weight to suit the role and is giving a final shape to the script. Planning to begin the shooting early next month. Chinni feels the movie would be a trend-setter in Kollywood.

Chinni Jayanth keen to excel

Comedian Chinni Jayanth makes a comeback as director after a brief interval, with Kaanal Neer. After his maiden directorial venture Unakkaaga Mattum, Chinni Jayanth is confident that a strong storyline and a new cast in Kaanal Neer would help the movie do well at the box office. Kaanal Neer features Riteesh (son-in-law of State Minister Subha Thangavel) as hero and debutante Manisha as heroine. The movie is about Chinni Jayanath, the heir to a huge property, who is forced to become a lunatic. With the help of Riteesh, he overcomes all problems and succeeds the property.

Chinni Jayanth in Sivaji

Chinni Jayanth is one of the actors and mimicry artistes who likes to follow Rajinikanth. The actor made his debut under Rajinikanth in Kai Kodukkum Kai. Chinni Jayanth, after being in the forefront for long, is now moving into production and direction. Of course, he also hosts a popular mimicry show on a regional television channel. The show, which helps up and coming mimicry artistes get a break in the film industry, has interestingly proved beneficial to Chinni Jayanth himself. He has been roped in to play a role in the blockbuster Sivaji now. Director Shankar, who saw the show, was apparently mighty impressed with the actor and immediately sent out for Chinni Jayanth to act in the movie.

China likens South China Sea island development to routine road, house building

China is comparing its controversial island reclamation project in the South China Sea to ordinary construction going on in other parts of the country, such as the building of roads and apartments. Defense Ministry spokesman Yang Yujun on Tuesday said the issue has been exaggerated by those seeking an excuse to take unspecified actions in response — a clear reference to the United States. Yang's comments follow an incident last week in which a Chinese navy dispatcher warned-off a US Navy P8-A Poseidon surveillance aircraft as it flew over Fiery Cross Reef, where China has conducted extensive reclamation work. The U.S. crew replied that they were in international airspace. Yang said surveillance activities have been growing in frequency but declined to say what additional measures China might take in response.

36 China Town breaks the jinx for Shahid-Kareena

This was bound to happen sooner than later! Thankfully in case of Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, this has happened sooner and just at the right time. Good opening of '36 China Town' and continued patronage for the rest of the week has ensured that the film should turn out to be a reasonable success at the least. And none but Shahid and Kareena would be most pleased about that since there last film together, 'Fida', didn't exactly set the box office on fire. One of the major reasons for the film's downfall was said to be the film's plot itself that projected Kareena as a vamp who didn't really care about the character played by Shahid. The fans naturally felt cheated due to the absence of a romantic onscreen liaison between the two and soon the word spread around the town that Shahid and Kareena were not the typical 'hero' and 'heroine' in the film. Now with '36 China Town', the duo got ample opportunity to play a 'conventional' hero and heroine in the film. So audience had their hands [and eyes full] when they saw the duo singing and dancing to peppy numbers, getting into sweet'n'little arguments, cracking jokes and genuinely enjoying themselves in the comic popcorn thriller! With the movie's success, the most relieved man should be Boney Kapoor who may now be looking at releasing his long delayed 'Milenge Milenge' directed by Satish Kaushik. The film has been ready for quite some time but owing to the failure of 'Fida', Boney Kapoor went slow on 'Milenge Milenge' and instead concentrated on 'No Entry'. With 2005's biggest success behind him and '36 China Town' looking good, 'Milenge Milenge' is another film that should be yet another good reason for Shahid-Kareena fans to catch the flick. Meanwhile one film starring the real life couple is fast gearing up for the release. In about a month's time from now comes Priyadarshan directed 'Chup Chup Ke' that is being promoted as a romantic comedy. Releasing on June 9, the film is also noticeable for the fact that Kareena plays a mute girl in the film while a situation provokes Shahid to act as a mute and a deaf guy. Supposed to be filmed in true Priyadarshan style, the film has now become further hot due to '36 China Town' clicking at the box office. Additional bonus comes in the form of Himesh Reshammiya's music that is eagerly awaited at the stands!
