PVR Cinemas, India's largest film exhibition chain, which itself has grown up to become a colossus through acquisitions, may well sell a controlling stake to Wanda Cinema of China. In a report, a national financial daily has revealed the details about what is transpiring behind the screens. Describing Wanda Cinema as Asia's largest film group and theatre operator Wanda Cinema, the report says that its promoter Wang Jianlin (China's richest man) has "revived talks with Ajay Bijli, the promoter of PVR Ltd". Bijlis, who control 25.26 per cent of their flagship, are the main stakeholders. In total, PVR Cinemas has a vast presence in 17 states, owning about 553 screens. "The multiplex industry is set for multiyear growth supported by demographics, rising income levels, propensity for movies and huge supply of content", the report adds.
China grooves to Rahman hit
Yes. It is a fact that A R Rahman's music has now become a rage in China. The fact remains that Rahman hasn't composed music for any Chinese film. Yet, his music has been used by Taiwanese singer Kelly Poon in her latest album. It is a known fact that Rahman had composed music for the Arjun-Manisha Koirala starrer Mudalvan or Oke Okkadu in Telugu. Shakalaka baby song from this film was a huge hit in India when the film released. Now, the same song has the Chinese youngsters grooving to Rahman's music.
In praise of Chinna Thalapathy
The audio launch of Bharath's Pazhani established his title as 'Chinna Thalapathy'. Almost all speakers mentioned the young hero as 'Chinna Thalapathy'. Bharath was visibly happy when Director S.A. Chandrasekar, father of Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay too referred him with the title. The function was held in Santham Cinemas in Chennai today (December 15). Two of the six songs screened before the event. Sathyaraj released the first copy of the CD, which was jointly received by Jeva, Dhanush, S.J. Surya, Sibi, and Arun Vijay. Srkanth Deva has scored the music for the movie. Khusboo's speech was keenly anticipated, as this was her first function after the controversy over Vallamai Tharayo launch function. But the actress did not touch the issue. She confined herself to the film in which she plays the sister of Bharath. She was quite emotional when she talked about her role. "I don't have a brother. When I see Bharath, I feel like seeing my brother". Dhanush requested director Perarasu in a lighter vein to give chance to others too to write lyrics in his films. All the songs are penned by the director himself. Dhanush expressed his willingness to act with Sathyaraj. He wants to do so even as a villain, he said. Sathyaraj in his speech said that Dhanush would outsmart him if he decided to act with him. AVM Saravanan was among the celebrities, who graced the occasion. Pazhani, Bharath's first ever full fledged action movie, will be released on Pongal.
Chinni's new gambit
Popular comedian Chinni Jayanth is back in the hunt. A once-busy comedian, who started his sojourn in Kollywood with Kai Kodukkum Kai, Chinni Jayanth has come a long way with his mimicry skills. Now the comedian is busy preparing himself to establish as a hero in Kollywood. Chinni Jayanth will produce, direct besides acting in the lead role in a movie titled Kanal Neer. The movie also features Nizhalgal Ravi in an important role. According to Chinni Jayanth, 'Nagesh shot to fame the lovable hero playing the hero in Neer Kumizhi. My Kanal Neer is a similar attempt. It would dwell on human emotions and the value of relationships.' Chini seems to have shed his weight to suit the role and is giving a final shape to the script. Planning to begin the shooting early next month. Chinni feels the movie would be a trend-setter in Kollywood.
Chinni Jayanth keen to excel
Comedian Chinni Jayanth makes a comeback as director after a brief interval, with Kaanal Neer. After his maiden directorial venture Unakkaaga Mattum, Chinni Jayanth is confident that a strong storyline and a new cast in Kaanal Neer would help the movie do well at the box office. Kaanal Neer features Riteesh (son-in-law of State Minister Subha Thangavel) as hero and debutante Manisha as heroine. Chinni Jayanth in Sivaji
Chinni Jayanth is one of the actors and mimicry artistes who likes to follow Rajinikanth. The actor made his debut under Rajinikanth in Kai Kodukkum Kai. Chinni Jayanth, after being in the forefront for long, is now moving into production and direction. Of course, he also hosts a popular mimicry show on a regional television channel. The show, which helps up and coming mimicry artistes get a break in the film industry, has interestingly proved beneficial to Chinni Jayanth himself. He has been roped in to play a role in the blockbuster Sivaji now. Director Shankar, who saw the show, was apparently mighty impressed with the actor and immediately sent out for Chinni Jayanth to act in the movie.
