More news →'Slum Bala' gets U/A
The debut direction of journalist turned director D.Sumana Kitthur 'Slum Bala' based on 'Dadagiriya Dinagalu' of Agni Sridhar in which the macho hero Vijay and charming Shuba Poonj play lead roles has been given U and A certificate by the regional censor board. For the smoking and some drinking scenes in the film the censor board has passed 'U/A' and I have no objection to it says Sumana Kitthur speaking to this correspondent on Monday morning. The Regional Censor Board has not suggested even a small cut is a feel of proudest moment for me says Sumana Kitthur. Ravindra and Syed Aman are the producers of 'Slum Bala' that has story and dialogues by Agni Sridhar. A.C.Mahender is the cameraman and Arjun has scored the music. Umasri, Girija Lokesh, Shashikumar, Achyuth, Dharma, B.Suresh, Satya are also in the cast.
Two newcomers contest
Two directors are making debut this Friday. K.M.Chaitanya son of respected literary personality Maralusiddappa and famous dance director Harsha are trying their luck and fate on this Friday. 'Aa Dinagalu' based on underworld happenings in and around 1986 written in the book format by Agni Sridhar in 'Dadagiriya Dinagalu' is a subject for K.M.Chaitanya in his first film. Gnanapeeth award winner Dr.Girish Karnad has written the screenplay for this film while the music maestro Ilayaraja has scored music for two songs and done the background score the most essential part of the film. Produced by Megha Movies 'Aa Dinagalu' is produced by Syed Aman and Ravindra. The former don Agni Sridhar now the editor of tabloid 'Agni' in Kannada and English has written the dialogues for his own script. Chetan, Archana, Sharat Lohitashva, Atul Kulkarni, Ashish Vidyarthi, Girish Karnad, Vinayaprakash, Samyukhtha Belawadi, Dinesh Mangalore and others are in the cast. Dance director of over 1000 shows Harsha is another youngster who is testing his caliber. 'Geleya' directed by Harsha is produced by five senior producers ' N.Kumar, Basavaraju, Gangadhar, Venkatesh and Kadur Umesh. Prajwal Devaraj shot in to fame from 'Sixer' this year and Tarun of 'Kushi' fame are playing the title roles. Kiradh Battal is the heroine. Kishore, Rangayana Radhu, Paramesh, Yogi, Bullet Prakash are in the cast. It is in this film Rakhi Sawanth the sexy actress from Hindi cinema is appearing for the first time in an item song in Kannada films. The three prominent persons who worked for the mega hit film 'Mungaru Male' Mano Murthy, story writer Preetham and camera man Krishna are working together in this film.
'Aa Dinagalu' audio released
Music maestro Ilayaraja's scoring for only two songs in the film 'Aa Dinagalu' (maestro has done the background score for this film) based on the novel of one of the producers of the film Agni Sridhar's 'Dadagiriya Dinagalu' audio was released in a packed hall on Sunday evening at GM Rejoyz auditorium in Bangalore. This is perhaps for the first time in the career of Ilayaraja that a female lyricist has written the title song for his film music that is sung by Vijay Yesudas and Nanditha. That is D. Sumana Kittur a journalist and one of the key persons in shaping up 'Aa Dinagalu'. After release of the album two songs were also screened on this occasion. The cinematography by H.C.Venu reminded of Balu Mahendra's camera work for the Kannada film 'Pallavi Anupallavi' (1983) that was directed by today's top Indian director Manirathnam. Releasing the album of music maestro Ilayaraja's 'Aa Dinagalu' the popular music director of Kannada cinema Gurukiran disclosed that it was his ambition from the beginning of his career to sing in one of the films of Mr Ilayaraja but today I am blessed with an opportunity to release his album he said. Coinciding with the title 'Aa Dinagalu' every speaker at the audio release function recalled the yesteryears experience and lauded the ability and knowledge of Agni Sridhar. It is only well known literary personality Maralusiddappa in his address pointed to the novel 'Dadagiriya Dinagalu' touching style of writing. Former KFCC president H.D.Gangaraj, Sa.Ra.Govindu, Abhimani Prakashana chairman T.Venkatesh, writer Indhudhar Honnapur, Kananakapura Srinivas, Agni Sridhar related their speech to the rowdy activities in the mid eighties in Bangalore. Anand Audio Mohan has blindly accepted the offer to release the album that is mainly because of maestro Ilayaraja. Then he came to know that there are only two songs in this film. A brief commentary of some characters is also included in the CD and cassettes of 'Aa Dinagalu' to utilize the space. Intelligent director K.M.Chaitanya appreciating the wonderful background score of Ilayaraja disclosed that on his advice two songs have been included to give some relief for the audience from the flow of dramatic developments on the screen.
