Versatile actress Nandita Das who has acted in films across various languages has not been heard or seen too often in the recent times. The talented actress who came into limelight with 'Fire' and '1947 Earth' and touched the peak of her career with 'Aks' where she was paired opposite Amitabh Bachchan had her last release in the form of 'Ek Alag Mausam' [2005] that came and when without a whimper. Now she is seen again, though on the small screen, for the music video of 'Dhoom Tana' from the album 'INFINITI'. The track is composed and sung by Salman Ahmad of 'Junoon' fame where he does a duet with Shubha Mudgal. A period number, it has Nandita Das display variety of emotions and needless to say excels with her screen presence.
Nandita Das: Crossing borders
Nandita Das has created news yet again by going straight ahead and signing the dotted line to act in a film to be directed by a Pakistani filmmaker Mehreen Jabar. The film titled 'Ramchand Pakistani' will also have other television stars from Pakistan television playing important roles in the film. Speaking on the film the actress stated that the story of the film has been motivated by a real life incident and spins around a small boy who along with his father face trouble when they accidently cross the border. Speaking about the director of the film, Nandita quipped that she chanced to meet her at a film festival. Later on the director narrated the story to Ms. Das who willingly agreed to be a part of the plot. Mentioning about her role in the film she says that she plays the character Champa, mother of the small boy. The actress also says that the film brings out the differences of being a Hindu dalit in an Indial jail. Nandita, who gives her best shot to whatever role she plays be it commercial cinema or otherwise, will sure come out in flying colors doing justice to this role. Lets us hope that with this film Nandita's popularity raises up by a few more notches within and outside the country.
Nandita Das gets another one
She is known as a matured actress who can surprise the viewers with her stunning performance as well to portray highly emotional roles with ease. The number of awards that this Bengali actress has won so far stands testimony to the fact mentioned above. By winning the Best Actress awards at the Santa Monica Film Festival in 2001, Cairo Film Festival in 2002 and Madrid International Film Festival in 2000, she proved herself to be one among the best acting talents in India and also earned widespread international praise. At such a young age she was selected to be the jury member of Cannes film festival in 2005 and Karlovy Vary International film festival in 2007. And now the sultry actress has been selected for the Ordre Des Arts Et Des Lettres award by the French government for her contribution to cinema. The versatile actress also gets the privilege to receive the award from any French personality of her choice. After conquering everyone's heart by her acting prowess, Nandita Das is ready with her first film as a director titled 'In Such Times'. So the award could not have come to her at a better time. Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and Fashion Designer Ritu kumar are the former Indian recipients of this French award established by the France government in 1957 for recognizing the contribution of people around the world to the arts and literature. The actress with the typical girl next door looks has experimented with her acting skills for around 30 films in 10 regional languages. We really are proud of you , Nandita.
Vir Das writes his first film script
Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das, who was in London for the screening of his forthcoming film “31st October” at the London Indian Film Festival, wrote a film script for the first time on an almost 100-year-old typewriter. The script is a comedy based on an Indian family. “My company Weirdass Comedy will produce the film and I'm going to act in the same," Vir said in a statement. On his purchase of the almost 100-year-old typewriter, the actor shared that he found the “beauty in an antique shop, besides being close to 100 years old it was used in a government office during World War II. “It's kind of amazing when you think about the things that might have been written on it. Also, writing on a typewriter is a totally different experience," added the "Revolver Rani" actor.
Shraddha Das ready for fun in 'Great Grand Masti'
Actress Shraddha Das, most popular for her work in films such as "Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji" and "Aarya 2", is excited to join the team of adult comedy "Great Grand Masti" and is ready for fun. The film is the third instalment in Bollywood's "Masti" franchise, featuring Vivek Oberoi, Aftab Shivdasani and Riteish Deshmukh in the lead roles. "I signed this film mainly because it was similar to the first 'Masti' with three lead girls and needed performance too. Also, it was fun to lighten up a bit with Vivek, Aftab and Riteish and match-up to their comic timing," Shraddha, who has already started shooting for the film in Rajkot, said in a statement. Being directed by Indra Kumar, the film also stars Urvashi Rautela, Puja Banerjee and Mishti in important roles. According to Rajkumar Tiwari, who was involved in the film's casting process, Shraddha was suggested because the director wanted a one-take artist. A popular face in southern filmdom, Shraddha currently has Hindi-Telugu bilingual "Haunting of Bombay Mills" and Telugu comedy "Guntur Talkies" in her kitty.
Shraddha Das in 'Great Grand Masti'
Shraddha Das is set to set the screens on fire with her role in "Great Grand Masthi", the third installment of Masti series. The Bengali beauty has been roped in for one of the leading lady roles in this film, which has Ritesh Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani playing the leads. As "Grand Masti" set the cash registers ringing at the box-office, there is a good hoopla surrounding the film. This film is set for a release on November 6th this year.
