More news →'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' to release in Pakistan
His "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" turned out to be a major success story in Pakistan for its heart warming tale of a Hindu man helping a Muslim girl to reach her parents across the border. Now at a time when art and cinema have been dragged into the politics between both nations, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's forthcoming family drama "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" will also hit the screens in Pakistan on the same day as in India. The movie is scheduled to release a day after Diwali on November 12. A spokesperson of "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" said: "'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' celebrates togetherness in a family. We are happy that the film will be releasing in Pakistan and our neighbours will be able to enjoy the film." Salman had earlier told that he wanted the movie to cross borders. Now, he has all the reasons to be happy. The actor feels cinema is a "powerful medium", with the capability to usher in a change. He said: "The medium is really powerful. We can do a lot with this medium... This is our tool and a lot of people appreciate good cinema and good characters. Everyone watches movies and it has a huge impact on people's life, and on society. I think there is no format better than cinema". “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” unfolds a new and royal chapter about love and family ties, painted on a 'larger than life' canvas with music and dance weaving a 'desi' fantastical story. The film also brings Salman together with Sooraj Barjatya after 16 years. The family drama also stars Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Neil Nitin Mukesh. Earlier, "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", a Kabir Khan directorial, garnered appreciation at the Pakistan box office. The film, which narrates the story of a Hindu man on a mission to take a young Pakistani girl, who is dumb, back to her country and chronicles the adventures and experiences he has during his road trip, was released in India and Pakistan in July this year.
'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' zooms past Rs.100 crore in three days
Salman Khan's return as Prem on the silver screen with “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” has reaped crackling results at the box office. The Hindi version of the Sooraj Barjatya directorial has amassed over Rs.100 crore in just three days of its release. The film, which hit the screen on Thursday, a day after Diwali, reunites Salman with his "Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!" and "Hum Saath-Saath Hai" director Barjatya after a gap of 16 years. According to a statement, the Hindi version of “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” alone has collected a total of Rs.101.47 crore. On Thursday, the opening day, the movie made Rs.40.35 crore, on Friday it minted Rs.31.05 crore, and on Saturday the collection was Rs.30.07 crore. Also starring Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher, Swara Bhaskar, Armaan Kohli and Neil Nitin Mukesh, “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” brings a story of a royal family and how an outsider, Prem, played by Salman, tries to mend the broken bridges of the family. However, the film failed to appeal to the critics who termed it as a “royal pain” and also said that in the film “Prem and his family ensure that you are still trapped in the time machine of the 1980s”. According to trade guru Taran Adarsh, the film is set to gain mileage in the coming days. He tweeted: “#PremRatanDhanPayo crosses Rs.100 crore on Day 3 (Saturday). Business should again witness an upward trend today (Sunday). Big four-day total on the cards”. The movie, made on a budget of Rs.60 crore, also released in Tamil and Telugu.
'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' to have one mega webisode
Post the success of the Salman Khan starrer 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo', makers of the film are all set to make a webisode (an original episode derived from a television series) showing the making of the family entertainer. The greatest moments from the 21 webisodes showing the making of the film are being combined into one mega webisode titled 'Memoirs of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo'. When filmmaker Vidhi Kasliwal was entrusted with the making of the film by Rajshri Productions, she had a unique concept for it in mind. "From the time Sooraj ji decided to make his next film, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. We shot day and night and captured very interesting footage. The icing on the cake was that he was working with the one and only Salman Khan again!" Vidhi said. "My team canned over 250 hours of footage from which I was very keen to produce and direct the digital assets. So what started as a 10-webisode series increased to 21 webisodes, as the response to each asset was phenomenal!" she added. The mega webisode will see Salman, Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher and other actors along with the entire unit of the movie discuss and share their thoughts on the title and the bond between the 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' actor and Salman and director Sooraj Barjatya that began with 'Maine Pyar Kiya' 25 years ago. Incidentally, a feature-length documentary on the making of 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo', also by Vidhi, is expected to release this year.
Music of 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' to be out on October 10
The music album of "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" -- which brings together Bollywood's once indomitable team of Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya after 16 years -- will be unveiled on October 10, says T-Series head Bhushan Kumar. "The full music album of 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' will be unveiled on October 10," said Bhushan, chairman and managing director of T-series, at the trailer launch of the film here on Thursday. "This is my first time that Sooraj ji has given me an opportunity to market the music of their film. Their music is always good and with Salman, there is no need of marketing the music. But Songs of the film are very good, melodious and in sync with the film. So I am all excited," he added. When asked about the strategy of marketing the film's music, he said: "Each song from 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' will be unveiled one by one in the coming weeks prior to Diwali when the film releases". A family drama, PRDP also stars Sonam Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Neil Nitin Mukesh. Directed by Sooraj Barjatya, the much anticipated film will release on November 12, a day after the festival of Diwali. Presented by Fox Star Studios, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" is produced by Rajshri Productions.
Salman Khan's 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' remains biggest opener till date
Salman Khan-starrer Sultan, which hit screens on the eve of Eid, has minted R36.54 crore at the box office on the opening day. While these numbers are the best for any Bollywood release this year, they fell short of the first day collections of the star’s last release, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs 40.35 crore). With a screen count of 4,350, the wrestling drama was expected to cross the R40-crore mark yesterday. Theatres across the country had registered 90 to 100 per cent occupancy. However, with Eid arriving a day late, the business was marginally hit. Trade pundits are optimistic that the Ali Abbas Zafar-directed film will gross R150 crore by this weekend. Komal Nahta labelled the figures “excellent” while saying that the impact in Muslim centres had been weak. Taran Adarsh said, “After a lingering lull at the box office, Sultan has come as a huge relief to the industry. It is doing extraordinarily well.”
Lucky to be part of 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo': Swara Bhaskar
Actress Swara Bhaskar, who acts as the younger sister of Salman Khan's character in the much-awaited "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", says she's glad she got a chance to perform some "really good scenes" in the film. Swara, known for successful films like "Tanu Weds Manu", "Tanu Weds Manu Returns" and "Raanjhanaa", said: "The film 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' is a family drama, which is based on sibling rivalry and my character is very well-written. "I got to do a lot of good scenes. Most of my scenes are with Salman sir, so I enjoyed a lot while shooting the film." While Swara is working with Rajshri Productions for the first time, she admits that she has never met a human being as wonderful as director Sooraj Barjatya. "The kind of films Sooraj sir makes, he is actually like that. It sounds cliched, but I have never met such a good human being in my life. He is so good and sometimes I feel how bad I am," Swara said. "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", which brings together Bollywood's once indomitable team of Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya after 16 years, also stars Sonam Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Anupam Kher in key roles. The film is set to release on November 12, a day after the festival of Diwali.
