It is very rare to find this type of combination. National acclaimed director S.V.Rajendra Singh Babu has roped in two familiar directors of Kannada cinema S.Narayan and N.Omprakash Rao (they have perfect comedy image in Kannada cinema) along with another comedy actor Komal Kumar for his new film 'Thipparhalli Tharlegalu' that went on the floors recently. Film Directors Election Postponed

The Karnataka Film Directors' Association elections scheduled for April 3 has been postponed indefinitely. A meeting of the directors on Sunday decided to hold another meeting either on March 27 or 28 to decide the future course of action. The directors present at the meeting decided that they have to go on a membership drive and get all directors to register and become members of the association. Rajendra Singh Babu is the president of the association with Koodlu Ramakrishna, Tiptur Raghu and Joe Simon holding other posts in the executive committee. Those present voiced the opinion that the associate and assistant directors who have formed an association of their own should be brought back into the fold. T S Nagabharana said that though forming an organisation of their own was not wrong, they should be part of the directors' association. Senior directors like Bhargava, K V Raju and S Mahendar were present at the meeting.

Directors turn lyricists

Tamil filmdom has seen a lot of directors who are adept at other branches of film-making as well, including cinematography and music direction. A good example of this would be Vijaya T Rajendhar, who is known as 'Ashtavadhani' in film circles. The word literally connotes a person who can handle eight different tasks with ease. RV Udhayakumar followed soon after and who can forget the lyrics in his blockbuster hit Ponnumani, which starred Karthik and Soundarya? In recent times, we have been seeing Perarasu penning lyrics for the songs in his films. His songs became super-duper hits too. Remember 'Ennatha Solvenungo' from Sivakasi, which went on to become a super-hit song among the masses? The lyrics for the song were penned by none other than the director Perarasu himself. More recently, we had Kasthooriraja penning the lyrics for a song in Idhu Kadhal Varum Paruvam and SA Chandrasekhar wrote a song for Nenjirukkum Varai. Now we have Hari writing the lyrics for a song in Thamirabarani and Ramki Ramakrishnan- the director of Solli Adippen penning the lyrics for songs in his film. Yuvan, like MusicMazaa reported earlier, is writing the lyrics for a song titled Natpukkulae for Chennai-600028. However, these directors are not against working with other lyricists. Perarasu opines that he writes the lyrics himself because he has the exact idea of what the script and the situation demands and hence he resorts to writing the lyrics himself. He also says that he is not averse to working with other lyricists in future.

'Directors are respected in Kollywood', says Jayaraj

'There is a great respect for new directors in Tamil cinema', says director Jayaraj. The ace Malayalam director is busy giving final touches to his movie 'Silanerangalil', which stars Vincent Asokan, Vineeth and Navya Nair in lead roles. According to Jayaraj, 'In Kollywood, every director is given due respect. They get encouraged and their efforts are recognized. Also newcomers are given good opportunities here unlike Malayalam film industry'. Speaking about 'Silanerangalil', he says, 'It is a suspense-thriller drama. The story occurs in two different periods. Navya Nair plays a dual role while Vineeth and Vincent Asokan rock playing the male leads. The highlight of the movie is a song set to tunes by Srikanth Deva. Veteran playback singer P Suseela has sung the song and yesteryear choreographer Thara, who had worked with the likes of MGR and Sivaji Ganesan, has choreographed for the song sequence, he adds. 'At Bangkok, we have shot a stunt sequence with Vincent Asokan dressed as Samurai warrior.' 'With all the artistes including Ramesh Khanna, Fathima Babu and Sriman contributing their best, we are hopeful that 'Silanerangalil' would rock Tamil audience', he says.
