DON team comes together on the small screen

Much before Farhan Akhtar's 'Don' hits the screen, the star cast of the film have decided to keep their fans happy by making a small screen appearance at the least. Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor, all the three have now faced the camera and have made a way into your living rooms. Yes, you read it right as the three stars have shot for the latest Pepsi commercial where SRK plays a common man looking forward to installation of PEPSI TV at his home while both the pretty ladies play PEPSI representatives. Colorful and breezy, just like most of Pepsi commercials [with SRK's 'sapera' act being an exception], it features SRK as a perky youngster, Priyanka as a sweet'n'nice girl while Kareena appearing as a hotty with an attitude. A good impression with the very first strike from the team of DON!

Don: SRK or Big B?

Shahrukh Khan. Or. Amitabh Bachchan. It's difficult to choose who makes for a better Don. Bachchan was at the height of his career delivering one hit after another in the late seventies when Chandra Barot's maiden venture 'Don' added to his list of super-hits. The 'Khaike Paan Banaraswala' and 'Main Hoon Don' became a rage. Mr Bachchan made a cool-dude-boss of a syndicate of gangsters. As he feasted on the glorious appeal of Helen in the spellbinding 'Yeh Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Deewana', the sinister magnetism of Big B left a lasting impact. His villainous act carried a unique sophistication that didn't dilute the immense negative energy one associates with someone you are expected to consider as a hate figure. Shahrukh on the other hand is an able foil to play the modern day Don. Why? I think the only time when a different-kinda Shahrukh really fascinated in the past was his fierce portrayals of the anti-hero in 'Baazigar' and 'Darr'. Taking that into account I am sure his baddy act in the first half of Don will be something-to-book-in-advance. Shahrukh is thunderous when he is in that crazy mood of his. He may have had big hits like 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', 'Dil To Pagal Hai', 'Mohabbatein' and 'Veer Zara', but the 'Darr' continues to be the film that SRK fans the world over imitate in terms of dialogue delivery. His maniacal lover act is more captivating as compared to the sugar-syrupy lover-boy roles. The verdict is fifty fifty. Amitabh Bachchan. Shahrukh Khan. It is difficult to choose who is better. We've already seen Mr Bachchan's act 25 years ago. And there's no doubting Shahrukh's strong energy reservoir either. Even though the film is yet to be released, SRK will rock. Oh gosh, I am becoming the scribe of wishful thinking. How I wish 'Don' is released tomorrow and not in Diwali.

DON ahead in the chase

2 months and 13 more days to go and "Don - The Chase Begins Again" already seems to be far ahead in the race; well at least in terms of the kick start of the film's promotion! On this Diwali/Eid there as many as four films that have been lined up for release - 'Jaan-E-Mann', 'Umraao Jaan', 'Familywala' and off course 'Don - The Chase Begins Again'. While 'Familwala' is a relatively unknown flick that has been revived looking at Neeraj Vora's recent 'Phir Hera Pheri' being a super-duper hit, J. P. Dutta's 'Umrao Jaan' is still waiting for some hype to be built up. Meanwhile Sajid Nadiadwala seems to have been playing a waiting game for the promotion of his 'Jaan-E-Maan' to begin. In the meantime producer Ritesh Sidhwani and director Farhan Akhtar have gone ahead and unleashed the 20 seconds promo of the film that has dominated all the music channels this weekend. No wonder the teaser has made an instant impact all over with people wanting for more! This has indeed made Don move ahead in the chase for being the biggest film this Diwali/Eid and now the other three flicks would indeed have some catch up to do to match the might of King Khan!

DON Defies Gravity

If you ask me I prefer the lean-mean Don over the worth-sympathising Dev Saran of 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna'. The sneak peak at Farhan Akhtar's 'Don' where Shahrukh Khan like the vintage Baazigar says unabashedly 'I am the King' and you just feel like saying Why not dude! The colourful shirts, the designer sex appeal and that sinister negativity on the face is simply lovely. For the first time in 'Don' SRK performed a spectacular stunt in spite of his back ache and spasms And, the end result is smashing. The superstar actually jumped from 15000 feet under the expert guidance of stunt directors from California who had earlier worked in Hollywood projects like 'Terminal Velocity' and 'Air Force One'. With younger heroes like Hrithik Roshan performing unbelievable stunts, it is natural for someone like SRK to stay-in-the-hunt by doing something that he has never done before. The soundtrack of 'Don' is very powerful as well. Although I am excited about KANK releasing tomorrow, but I am eagerly looking forward to this Diwali/ Eid as 'DON' shall step up the volume to incredible decibel levels.

DON and Dhoom 2 with KANK !

So what if the expected face-off between 'DON' and 'Dhoom 2' couldn't happen this Diwali/Eid? The two would finally be clashing with each other, though in different continents as 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' releases this Friday. While it is a common news that the promos of 'Dhoom 2' would be shown along with KANK screening in India, not many are aware that the promos of 'DON' too would be shown along with the film, though only in the overseas segment. UTV International, producer Ritesh Sidhwani and director Farhan Akhtar have worked overtime in getting a rocking 3-minute trailer of their SRK-starrer Don out to all the cinemas in the US & UK where KANK will be playing. If the initial response to the trailer is anything to go by, looks like SRK has another hit in hand! Meanwhile those who have already caught the promo of 'Dhoom 2' in the preview shows of KANK are already going gaga about it and are vouching it to be the next blockbuster in the making.

DON update from UK: 1 Million Dollars in 6 Days!

Within 6 days of its release on 19th October, the much-hyped DON has grossed approximately £536,000; more than $1 mill, from 74 engagements across the UK. The takings on Eid on 24th October alone were to the tune of about £139,000. Now week 1 of DON in the UK is likely to end on Friday morning at nearly $1.1 mill. With no Bollywood title releasing this coming weekend, DON is set to enjoy another strong weekend and hit the $2 mill mark by the end of Week 2. Trade sources attribute the unprecedented success of DON in the UK to the robust marketing by the UK division of UTV, the film's overseas distributor. Watch out for regular updates.
