‘Dostana’ sequel to go on floors this summer on March 20th, 2010
Filmmaker Karan Johar will start shooting the sequel to “Dostana”, a light-hearted tale about three friends, this summer with actors Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham once again in the lead. “‘Dostana 2′ starts filming this summer. The final cast will be announced (by the) end of the month…of course flagbearers AB (Abhishek) and John lead the way,” Karan, who produced the first movie in 2008, posted on micro-blogging site Twitter. The filmmaker, whose last release was Shah Rukh Khan-starrer “My Name Is Khan”, says preparations are in full swing for the forthcoming movies under his banner Dharma Productions. Karan is completing the last shooting schedule of his yet untitled film with Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal. The upcoming movie is an adaptation of Chris Columbus’ 1998 comedy-drama “Stepmom”. Also, Saturday will be the last shooting day for “I Hate Love Stories”, starring Imran Khan and Sonam Kapoor. “Sonam Kapoor’s last shooting day today for ‘I Hate Love Stories’…one song with Imran Khan left and its a film wrap…summer release,” he posted.
Dostana 2 is finally on tracks
After much speculation about the rift between director Tarun Mansukhani and producer Karan Johar, Dostana 2 is finally gearing upto to have a Muhurat at the end of this year. Dostana released in the year 2008 with a warm response from the audience. In Dostana 2 actors Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham are set to reprieve their respective roles with Katrina Kaif giving them the company instead of Priyanka Chopra. The makers of the film had creative differences over the second half of the film, reveals a source leading to the film getting delayed. It seems the differences got sidelined after the director Tarun worked on it to give it a perfect shape with additional characters such as Riteish Deshmukh and Abhay Deol. The two will be supposedly playing a gay couple in the film. Sources also suggested that the sequel would be completely comedy-driven considering the addition of Riteish Deshmukh and Abhay deol. The film might also feature Raaz star Dino Morea in a cameo role. The first part which was produced by Karan Johar will have the partnership pf UTV this time around as they would by co-producing and distributing Dostana 2.
'Ye Dosti' of the makers of 'Don'
Not many know how the popular producer-director duo of Don, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar first met! When asked, Farhan rewinds to the past, "We met in the principal's office when we were called in for doing something really terrible!!" Ritesh laughs, "We haven't been punished for it as yet! On a more serious note, it's a friendship that's formed over time. We were in school together for a few years." Adds Farhan, "Ritesh was working in his family business and I was working at a production house, writing the script of Dil Chahta Hai. It just so happened that Ritesh wanted to move out and produce a film. He heard the narration of Dil Chahta Hai along with his father and there was an immediate click." Substantiating what Farhan said, Ritesh remarks, "My dad owned a home appliances company, which has been around for 32 years. I had a lot of experience in marketing and dealing with consumers. There was nothing I could contribute to the film business as it was pretty set. I was an avid film-watcher and I was keen to do something on my own. I heard that Farhan (Akhtar) had written a script at that time and we met and got talking." Don releases in the UK on 19th October.
