Ilayaraja sings a duet song after ten years

Ilayaraja, who used to sing at least one song in most of his films, has been avoiding duet songs. Now he has made amends and sung a duet in 'Ajanta' along with Shreya Ghosal. The movie produced and directed by Rajba Ravishankar, has been made in four southern languages. Ravishankar has roped in the popular stars in the respective languages. In Tamil, Ramana dons the hero role while newcomer Vandana Guptha makes her debut in the film. What is the story? 'It is a love story without love', says the director. He has also played an important role in the film. He also has the guts to release all the editions in all the four states on his own. Self confidence, is thy name Ravishankar?

Ilayaraja sings a duet

The eighties saw maestro Ilayaraja sing many duets and almost all of them went on to become big time hits. It is interesting to note that after all these years, the maestro is up to it again. A song in the film 'Azhagar Malai' titled "Karugamani karugamani, kazhuthil aadudhadi'" is a duet and features the voice of Ilayaraja along with that of a female singer from Mumbai. The film is produced by Sangili Murugan whose 'Kadhalukku Mariyathai' went to become a great hit. All the songs of the film have the capability to stand the test of time. With 'Azhagar Malai', Sangili Murugan is hoping to recreate the same magic and the maestro is up to it. Ilayaraja who was very choosy with his projects for about a decade seems to be on a working spree right now. He has composed music for 'Jagan Mohini' and 'Naan Kadavul' as well and for a few more untitled projects.

'Do away with duets' Director Mahendran

Director Mahendran who rendered an awesome film in the form of 'Mullum Malarum' called upon filmmakers to do away with duets and run-of-the-mill love stories. Speaking at the audio launch function of the movie, 'Vannathupoochi' a film based on the lives of children, the veteran director urged young directors to treat cinema as an art form. 'When a young director makes a film based on human emotions and somehow does not taste the desired success, it is so very easy for him to change tracks'. But then the director urges young directors to hold true. Says Mahendran, 'We treat children with reverence, but then never make children's films. Most films that feature children actually have them mouthing dialogues meant for grown-ups. This is not good'. 'People think making movies with enormous budgets is what good filmmaking is all about. This is totally false. True human emotions amalgamated with a spectacular narration will never go unnoticed'. He also called upon Tamil filmmakers to do away with needless 'exercise schedule' dance sequences and running around trees in foreign locations and urged directors to be more responsible. Precise observation and absolute truth from the heart of an ace director.
